Soho Hong Kong Info:
The SoHo (Chinese: 蘇豪; also 荷南 and 荷南美食區; formally 中環蘇豪區) district in Hong Kong is an entertainment zone located in Central and bordering between Lan Kwai Fong and Sheung Wan, within Central. The name is derived from its location: South of Hollywood Road.
The Central-Mid-Levels escalator was built in 1993; the now vibrant character of SoHo is attributed to the creation of the escalator system, which at the time was the longest escalator system in the world. Prior to the escalator construction, the area was populated by many elderly locals, old go-downs and porcelain shops.
The area now consists of restaurants, bars, nightclubs, art galleries and antique stores of Staunton Street and Elgin Street. SoHo also is home to the first full-time comedy club in Asia, The TakeOut Comedy Club Hong Kong. Hong Kong taxi drivers usually regard "SoHo" to mean either Staunton Street or Elgin Street.
Buildings in the SoHo area are a mix of commercial/residential, with the commercial businesses on the lower floors, and residential above the First Floors. Around the same time the Mid Levels Escalator was built, a few foreigners started to move into the area, taking up both commercial premises and renting flats. At the time the flats were cheaper than other expat areas in Hong Kong, and only a few minutes' walk from the business district.

I was hoping you’d turn left on Hollywood Rd at 5:47. That’s where I lived in Hong Kong 40 years ago. I live in Los Angeles now. Brings back so many memories. Thanks. 👍
@@raymondcheng3833 40 years ago is a real long time. Do you still recognise any prominent old building or structures?

Good video
Hong Kong is such an amazing city. I love all the hills and overpasses. I've been twice already and can't wait to go back.
Yeah I can't wait to go back and visit it again. I'm going to make sure I spend more time in the city outskirts in next time. Hong Kong has many under rated nature walks.
@streetsofasia8895 don’t go now because it’s very very unsafe!
Agreed. The level design is amazing.
I was lucky to have lived nearby in Guangzhou for many years - I always looked forward to popping into HK occasionally
Yes, I also love Hong Kong. It is a wild and amazing city. I have been there twice. I can't wait to go back. I just wonder as Beijing gets more control of the Hong Kong government will it be the same ever again.
11:49 LOL
😉 Hope she is okay
i hope im not going to hell for laughing my ass off it

pHööL ^^
We died laughing at this too! 😂
I scroll the comment to check if someone else saw that too 😂
We lived on Robinson Road from 2015-2020. It is so great to see this video and remembering our past life.
Glad the video brought back memories for you both ☺️
I always visit your channel whenever I want to reminisce my trip to HK last 2017. Thank you so much. I find these walking vlogs really calming and it's very asmr to me even though it's not really asmr type haha. Maybe it's because I also love walking in the city and observing people XD Ahhh, Nostalgia T^T
Glad to hear from you Pinky and happy to know the video are of "asmr" standard to you 😊 hope to revisit Hong Kong again once the pandemic is over and see if the city has changed
thanks another lovely video on HK 🙏🏻
Thanks Kerry! Hong Kong has alot of iconic places. Glad to have a chance to visit this area.
Another great video , you do a really good job . I recognize this area very much . Hong Kong is a destination that is very hard to forget . We in September spent four night in kowloon, in the Dorset hotel . We also went for a day trip to Tai O and found it a great education. My wife who is very hard to please is so happy in Hong Kong it makes me think in her last life this was home . Thanks
🤣 Perhaps when this virus is all over (and hopefully the protests stop), we can all visit it again
Love this area of Hong Kong. Thanks for the memories.
I hear you. Its really a bustling side of Hong Kong. I took it a few weeks before all the rioting started to happen. I hope things turn out for the better and everything goes back to normal soon
Discovery Walking Tours TV The troubles are gonna go on for years, I’m leaving permanently this summer bcoz of it!!
11:50 I really hope that lady on top of the escalator was okay
I hope so too
This area seems to have a bit of everything, bridges for instagrammable moments and busy streets for the urban photographer. I see the famous long escalator too that I see all the time. So cool!
Yeah it really has everything. If I had a chance I would come here again to spend 1 full day to take photographs. 😊
@@DiscoveryWalkingToursTV It would be my dream spot to do it at 😁
Greetings from the U.K. Great video.
Thanks Andre 😊 hope things are okay for you back in uk
So cozy. I love it! 💖
another nice tour! cool!
Glad to hear from you Stanlig =) Yeah Soho's vibes are pretty good. Heard the bars are pretty happening in the evenings and nights but unfortunately I didn't stay in the area that long
@@DiscoveryWalkingToursTV agree with soho, i was walking drunk back to my hotel last christmas hahaha love following your tours
@@StanligFilms Haha. I hope the hotel was nearby. I don't drink anymore after a disastrous experience when I was much younger. Now I just settle for coffee or tea =D
Nice walk thanks Alan.
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
That's a great start! Very beautiful 😊
Hong Kong combines beautiful buildings and living houses and very closely to each other. I wonder to see it by myself 😊
6:30 I like pictures on the wall 😊
I see, that you are going up and down there. You have many hills 😊
And I see many european people😊
33:35 is it a center? 😊
Great ending on the building! 😊
Thank You!😊
It's a great video 😊
Yeah Hong Kong can be considered as a cosmopolitan city so you will see people of various races there. Hong Kong doesn't have much (if any) flat land so they have to build by the sea or on the side of the hills. Its quite steep in certain areas
11:49 😂
kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
So clean
i like tours all hong kong thank you...
Glad you liked it 😁
Nice walk!
I'm lucky I managed to experience the area before the protests. 3 days after I left Hong Kong, the marches started happening
@@DiscoveryWalkingToursTV Wa yeah! Damn lucky. Or else sure kenan trapped at airport.
Looks interesting
HK is my second home, love it and miss it...however for the first time ever I just noticed the lack of greenery around the place. I know its a city but not many plants
i call it concrete jungle, all look the around the world
By chance, dig out this walking tour in HK. Alan, thanks for visiting HK and hope you like this neighourhood. I always have a drink and coffee here, a walking distance from where I live. Happy National Day.
It's a beautiful and atmospheric part of Hong Kong. Really miss the city. Wonder how everything is like over there
@@DiscoveryWalkingToursTV Looks almost the same but with more new coffee shops, bars, and bakery shops. The place was a bit quiet and some shops closed down due to COVID. Now, things are getting better, I mean economically.
@@lauuvicky Glad to see Hong Kong getting back on its feet. Will be happy to visit the city again once the pandemic is over. I personally haven't been to Causeway Bay before so it would be nice to see the area.
@@DiscoveryWalkingToursTV Same on my side. I really want to visit Singapore again, especially after learning so many new routes and places from you (e.g. Balisterier, Whampoa, Kellang, Tanjong Pagar, etc.) I used to visit SG at least once a year for my job. BTW, I suggest you may plan a walking tour from Causeway Bay all the way to Happy Valley when you can come to the city. Surely, you can capture lots of exciting scenes and architecture.
It will happen once this pandemic is over 🤗 did some memorable filming of Hong Kong during my last visit. I stayed at Sai Yin Pun and filmed the busy streets of Mongkok, Tsim Sha Tsui, Central, Tai Po etc. Even took a walk up to visit the 10000 Buddhas monastery. Good times 🤗 thanks for reminding me of them.
Thank you for these great videos. I doubt I will ever visit HK again, between the expense, family responsibilities and the 15-hour flights each way, so this is the only way I'll get to "visit" again. Not to mention the things my mind doesn't want to remember, like the very tired feet from walking 30km or so around the city every day. The difficulty of finding addresses since almost nobody puts street numbers on their buildings and GPS is nearly useless in a dense, tall city like HK. For instance, I had a terrible time finding Tai Cheong Bakery, famous for its egg custard tarts. Good to see it when you were on Lyndhurst Terrace. I was hoping you would show a shot of the inside and was pleasantly surprised when you did at 5:07. And I hated the 12-hour jet lag that meant I always woke up in the middle of the night there.
I hear you 😊 I dream about traveling to Europe again some day. Then I recall the 15 hour flights and lay overs and I start to think again 🤣 that said I wish to have a holiday and travel once this covid is over. Been stuck in Singapore for the whole year and it reminded me how vulnerable and small our island is. It would be great to visit Hong Kong again for its hiking trails.
@@DiscoveryWalkingToursTV Dragon's Back was gorgeous. Really enjoyed hiking on that.
@@amightysailingman it is on my go to list. Got a few spots like Lion's Rock that I wanted to try. 😁
Love the Central area. Thanks for this video, Alan. Are you using DJI Osmo Pocket?
Glad you enjoyed it Rio 😊 yes I'm using the Osmo Pocket. Been using it since my first recording nearly 5 months back.
It produces incredibly crisp and well exposed video, doesn't it. Cheaper and high quality alternatives are coming onto the market, but the Osmo is still king IMHO
@11:52 OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH SHE FELL!!!! and the lady in the pink walked right by her.
😅🤣
It seems that I'm in Hong Kong, just follow your way, that is authentic HK.
Is the travel bubble open yet between Hong Kong and Singapore? Did I ask that already in another video? Sorry if I did. Great work
The travel bubble got delayed. Hong Kong is experiencing a surge in cases so our two governments postpone it for the time being

I have a question. I’m trying to gonto
hong Kong and stay in the area of Tsim Tsa Tsui and Mong Kok, many people from other countries are suggesting me not to go because is dangerous, which I don’t believe, and I also know that people are afraid of everything. I think I will be fine staying out of eventual protests and enjoy walking around anyway. hope you can give me a clear answer to my question.
Hi Attract. Nice to hear from you. I'm not a Hong Konger so I would be hard pressed to give you an answer on how "safe" the place is. These clips of Hong Kong were done almost 1~2 weeks before the protest/riots started to occur.
Based on what my friends in Hong Kong tell me, it can be havoc on a main street, and the streets by either side, life goes on 😁
Hopefully a Hong Konger will see your comment and provide a factual on the ground tips on how to stay safe 😊
as a local citizen borned and raised in hong kong i can 100% guarantee this is unwarranted , somebody think there is dangerous just beacuse of the protests(now here is safe)so please feel free to travel.

Hi friends. My name is Alan and I recently visited one of Hong Kong's iconic places: SoHo (which I found is actually a short form for South of Hollywood Road). Most of the bars weren't in full swing yet but the murals were a nice sightseeing experience. Have you been to this part of Hong Kong before? Let me know your experience in the comments below. =)

Yup I made a couple of videos on Taiwan and parts of China. You can check out my playlist section. Currently due to covid no travel is "allowed" so will be staying put in my country of Singapore for the time being.

I grew up there in the 60's and 70's and I enjoyed it enormously. There are so many aspects I love about Hong Kong, the people especially. However, I don't miss the poor quality of life. Even as a privileged expatriate the lifestyle is lacking in many respects - overcrowding and less than adequate access to a non urban environment. One has to go to a lot of effort to find a peace in a natural environment in Hong Kong.
Aren’t there mountains and parks away form the urban areas?

Quite boring without an English subtitle for my bad hearing - I went to school in Hong Kong for 9 years 1956-65 but never walked this area. If you going to make your video interesting, you should mention the streets & important buildings. (from my home in ' The City of Angels, Bangkok ')

Thanks for the comment Pairote. Apologies the audio doesn't really help. Just hope the visuals are of interest. I am a foreigner to these lands so other than knowing where to walk. I don't really know much of the place to add any further captions
