  • Video astronomy is new and excellent. But classical photo astronomy still attracts us as well.

The maker, Takahashi company recommends us thick wool pillars over alminum ones saying that they absorb vibration better. The origin of the vibration will be assumed mainly from nearby traffic passing. But I guess the wood pillars will absorb camera shatter vibration better as well. I mean the duration of the vibration will be shorter with the wood pillars. Thanks.

Very nice video. Very clear and concise. I must say I wished I could afford a Takahashi refractor. Thank you.

I like the Randall Model 2 in the older photo. I was a big Randall collector, but have sold many. They are classics.

For planet observation the light pollution in a human dwelled area makes no problem unless it is in the center of the city. But to take a picture of galaxies, commets, or the Milky Way, we need to go to a dark and less dwelled area. For planet observation the atmospheric condition is critically more important than city lights. So we just need to increase the chance of observation to take a good picture of planets. Thanks.

Beautiful. I really enjoy your videos mate, you give me a great insight into the very interesting life you lead. I've always wanted to get into astronomy but I felt I never had enough money, recently I met some friends at a local park near where I live in London who showed me how to use their telescopes and let me look at stars and planets, it was so cool. It's amazing how things must have looked before light pollution, to be able to see the planets and our own galaxy. It's amazing! Thank you.

It's so lovely to see you looking at pictures of you and your daughter, you clearly love her very much. It's adorable. :)
I think it's awesome that you taught her to hunt and stuff like that, some girls think hunting is something for men to do, but I think it's society who says what is for men and what is for women, hunting is a useful skill to learn. Things like sharpening a knife are also so useful and fulfilling to learn.
I'd love to see some videos of you talking about your life. :)

Great photo work of the sky. I shoot the Milky Way from California to Florida depending on time of year. Great fun!

Interesting video Doc, does the ground vibration you describe emanate from the road traffic passing near your house or is it due to the tectonic plate activity off Japan's coastline? I was flying to Australia with a window seat when the Hale-Bopp comet passed and was fortunate enough to have a high-altitude grandstand view for several hours - it was breathtaking. Many thanks for this post.

I am surprised you are able to see planets so well in town with all the lights around. Do you ever take the telescope up into the mountains that you have shown us before? I would think the view from there would be far superior.
