It's unfortunate that the boxart legendary also counts as a gift Pokemon, but they can't be used until the very last battle of the main story.

I'm doing this myself, only it's minimal battles instead of just gift Pokemon so I also included the forced Lechonk catch in the tutorial. And I can't battle any extra trainers, grind with Raids, or wild Pokemon. I level up with mandatory matches and Exp Candies I find on the ground/from taking classes.
It's been fun, I'm about half way through so far. Also no items in battle ofc, and I can't buy anything with cash/LP besides TMs at the TM machine (and with no fighting wild Pokemon, it makes it a little harder to make TMs) -- that way I only use items that I find in the world.
can you still use let's go to get wild drops for TMs?
@@inks_msm I decided not to and pick up just the random items that give wild drops. That and winning Team Star matches meant that I still have had a fair number of TMs to chose from so far.
Sounds like fun. You don't actually have to capture the Lechonk at the beginning. If you kill it Nemona corrects you a little bit but then the game moves on.
Sick I'm doing an old pokemon only it won't be hard but it should be a fun team
@@swampert564 Very true, but since it's a minimal encounter/battles run and not a minimal catch run, I'm forced into that encounter anyways. So I might as well catch the Lechonk
