- Much less than 4% of the population is actually physically tone deaf. And I don't even trust those numbers. Here is a test you can use on yourself or others to prove you/they are not tone deaf. If you want to be able to correct this, I have specific exercises that help with this in this course singingfromscratch.thinkific....
The first test both sounded identical even after listening over 5 times.
If you didn’t say the 2nd sentence I wouldn’t have understood the first one was a question
I'm only tone deaf when I'm singing lmao, I honestly can't hit them notes correctly and I don't even realize
oh my gosh same
The first step is to match the frequency of one note, then pay attention to how that feels in your vocal cords. essentially being able to sing is matching frequency or creating specific frequency with muscle memory. No different than knowing how it feels to climb a flight of stairs or throw a ball.
I find it easier to hit the note after I've heard it rather than as it is playing.
Your lessons are incredibly underrated. I am really learning to sing just by watching you, thank you so much and please keep it up!
Thanks Jona! I'm so glad you are learning. Ultimately, that is my goal. The world needs more singers, performers, dancers, musicians, well...more artists, period.
@@singingfromscratch_official Just found your channel...Can't sing at all...Where is the best place to start? Thanks.
@@JMTBFLOW Hey James. The best thing to do is watch the free singing lessons videos here on the channel. Then if it makes sense the online course at www.singingfromscratch.com
@@singingfromscratch_official Thanks...Watching the free 6 part lessons now.
@@JMTBFLOW Great! If you have any questions you can email me at michaelgraves@singingfromscratch.com
thank you for this, now I know I'm not tone-deaf.
Thats great!!
I'm trying to learn Cantonese a super tonal language and had to make sure I'm not tone deaf lol. Cause I'm hearing the words the same. But in english it was very clear you used a different tone, just got to keep practicing then.
Im hoping that I'm not tone deaf so I can sing in pitch someday huhu
cool I actually got the first question wrong
I just get scared cause when I record my voice ot sounds different then from what hear so thx
Everybody’s voice sound different in their head compared to how it actually is. To do with the sound travelling a short distance to the ears from our mouths when we hear our voices or something like that I think.
@@yeast4529 Oh lol that makes sense im pretty dumb
I got them both right I'm not tone deaf. 😀😀😀
What about people who report the news and end most sentences in a question when it's not a question? Example: Last year? AT BAND CAMP?
Is he talking?
😂
Thank you very much sir :D
Please answer me, I'm loosing hope. You saved me here, because I really started to think I'm tone deaf, but I have another issue then. I play guitar for 1,5 year and starting to do ear training, but I can't in any way, like, connect the tone with the corresponding note. For e.g. I play B note, try to remember that this is how B sounds, same with all the notes, but then when I test myself, I can't tell the difference between any notes, like 0% success rate. I still can't tell that "this" Is A and "this" Is C etc. It's like my brain can't make the connection between the sound and the corresponding letter. On top of that for me for e.g. Note D sounds completly different than an octave higher/lower D. Is there a way/trickmethodt to "remember" all this?
Well, stop trying to sing a "B" and simply try to match the frequency. The note you are playing on guitar, any note for that matter, is a vibration of sound at a specific frequency. Start singing, and if it seems higher, 'slide' your voice down to match the frequency. If you start lower, slide up!
Do you have Adhd?
I mean though, the second sounded like a question, but as if you unhappy about it.
I don't know, isn't there more than just a tone at the end to the question? I'd think the loudness is going up too, and probably a bit longer vowels. Also in English in regular sentences it never feels like it's the real end of the sentence to my Russian ear ;) But I can tell the questions easily, the second example sounded sharp but not sure if it was angry or was it some other emotion.
My speech therapist has taught me to produce high and low sounds and I monitor them by feelings in my ears and the throat and around. I should try to record myself and see if I can tell without those sensations :)
please notify me if the courses will be on discount
This is coming from a person that’s actually tone deaf and can’t tell if you’re going up or down in pitch. I have no clue the differences in tone, but I still am told that I can sing well, the only way I can tell my pitches is using the tuner cause I have no clue
Can you do a video on how to sing like Tyrese (song shame)
Damn you may have just changed my life with that example👀
That's great! Glad I could help.
If I'm to match a person's tone I'd need to be told if I need to sing higher or lower... and then be told when I've matched it; it all sounds the same to me. Is there anything to be done about that?
A silly, unimportant point: I've never heard of anyone deciding for himself he's tone deaf. People get told they are tone deaf by music teachers or others who (supposedly) know what they're talking about.
thanks
No problem!
I'm finding it hard to believe that the number of tone deaf people are comparable to the number struck by lightning.
Closed my eyes and could not hear a difference but when I opened them and watched I heard it and could not unhear it.
Perfect!
For some reason for the first sentence I thought the first was a question 😏☹️☹️ maybe it’s a accent thing? Or I can’t hear differences 😂☹️
I got the questions here correct but I went to the doctor when I was 11 and they said I was tone deaf and this year I did a online quiz to see if I was tone deaf and it said I wasn't ;-; I shouldn't have trust that online quiz
Are you saying more than 4% of the population has been struck by lightning. Because that’s what you heavily implied.
He talked about the possibility of getting struck by a lighting and the possibility of being tone deaf
What If it sounds the same
Hello, I'm new to your CZcams channel and one of your new subcribers. Would you like to give some comments or advice to me regarding my story below?
I can hear the difference of each tone, and when I listen to the recording of my singing I'm pretty sure I can sing and it's not that bad (at least in my opinion😅). The thing is, after singing some songs, I feel my throat hurt and it's uncomfortable. Because of this I begin to think whether I hit the right tone, I become not sure. I just realize that until now I only following (or maybe mimicking) my favorite singers when I'm singing.
Thank you.
What if I can hear the difference but when it comes to singing my left ear feels really off and I can feel the difference between my left and right? Idk of that makes any sense
I also have a hard time learning languages because I can’t hear the difference from how I say it and how it’s actually said?
I guessed righted but it was very hard for me to figure it out. Was it supposed to be hard? On purpose?
Well, not necessarily. Depending on your level of proficiency, it could be easy or difficult. The point is, with practice, it will get easier, like anything else in life.
Very intresting for someone who has nothing to do with music.
