    My latest 37” tires have been the Mickey Thompson Baja boss at’s… they have been awesome in the snow and I’m coming up to having them for 1 year. I have definitely used them for off-road beside my long drives back and forth for work. I’d say my next favorite at tire is the ko2’s. They definitely gripped well with the snow… just don’t like them so much off road. I have had multiple sets of ridge grapplers. Pretty good all around tire but definitely slipped more in wet/snow conditions.

    Thumbs up for Firestone Winterforce tires on passenger cars.
    Years ago when my Ford Ranger was down for repairs during the winter, all I had to drive was my rear-wheel drive Thunderbird. It was amazing how much of an improvement a set of Firestone Winterforce tires made. The previous winter with an open diff and all season tires, that car was pretty much useless in any kind of snowy conditions. I could get stuck literally on a patch of ice at a stoplight. A year later with good winter tires, a Torsen LSD, and 120lbs of sand in the trunk, I had so much more confidence to be able to get to work, and in general just get around when Minnesota got nasty.

    I'm coming up on 2 years with my Falken Wildpeak AT3W's and they're just starting to get close to 30% tread remaining. I did drive around for like 3 months with my front tires driveway aligned and even though I measured the distance between the center of the tread pattern on the front and back of the tire and set the toe so the front was 0.5" shorter than the back, I started to visually notice they were wearing super quick so I rotated tires, drove for another 3 months to even them out and then got an alignment. Yea apparently I was way off. Plus I wheel the piss outta my XJ, I'm on an 8" lift and I've WJ knuckle swapped it, I've got front and rear lockers, I like to do drifties around corners when it's wet, I drive in 4HI when it's wet, I do not corner slowly when it's dry, and I daily the pig. I do offroad recoveries with it, roadside rescues, and I'm a mobile mechanic. The tires have about 25k miles on em, and about 40-50% of them are offroad, diffs locked, and they're usually slippin as I'm pullin someone out of a shitty situation. I've got 4.88 gears and sadly I'll have to either get 17" wheels or get a different tire if I want to get 37's kuz Falken does not make the Wildpeak AT3W's in 37 on a 15" wheel.

    During the winter I run Nokian hackapalita studded tires, or the Nokia lt3. There are other good studded winter tires but I have found with these you almost have to try slip if you're driving like a normal person. Those Finns really know what they're doing when it comes to winter tires. Any studded winter tire will perform better on the ice and snow then just about any non-specialized Tire. I prefer the studs because I just don't think that the non-studded winter tires are there yet. With the studs you do give up some traction when it's dry though. But that's a cost that I'm more than willing to bear. I live in New England and drive rear wheel drive cars and trucks all winter.

      @RM-bx2zt Před rokem

      Having an e-rated 10 ply tire is a good place to start. Having less space between the n o b b y parts of the tread will help too. It's hard to puncture through those knobs. That's why some people like the Good Year all terrain, but it's not super aggressive. I like the Kelly Edge mud terrains. A few years ago they called them all terrains. That's what they really are, a super aggressive all terrain. They've got good spacing lots of block from the tread so they're harder to puncture unless you get unlucky and get a nail between the blocks. Super tough long wearing and great on Road. But if you don't rotate them every few thousand miles you will know about it. But if you do there's no problem. My favorite tires now.

    I truly would love to see if those 3, and want to hear u which is the truly best all terrain tires, that for those like me, drives daily on my mostly on-road than off-road but still handles like a dream through the weather conditions.
    🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
    Because next time, my next set is a very hard choice.
    Should I stick with toyo open country at3, or Hankook Dynapro at2 extreme
    Because one has better should bites than the other, one has aggressive tread blocks than the other, which one is much quieter than the other, and which one is the best for daily use?
    😅😅😅😅 sorry to through this. But I want to see of this particular category. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

      No worries at all! We could definitely get that added to the list for a future video, for daily usage I would run with the tire that is the most quiet but can also preform in different weather conditions.

    What air down do u recommend for winter that’s 40 degrees or below, for my 27.9” toyo open country at3 on my 2015 lifted Scion xB, that’s 215/70/16?
    Now it’s FWD we all know but it handles very well. Not a very affective as 4WD/AWD trucks and SUV’s.
    But what psi should I air down to, to ah for the winter conditions?

      @@toyotabrony I did know because you mentioned so in you inquiry to TrailBuilt. Airing your tires 'down' below manufacturers specs is simply NOT recommended - - 'IF' you are going to operate your vehicle on city streets, highways, etc. It has to do with load transfer to the outside tire while cornering, braking, etc.

    • @dawabbitt3079
      @dawabbitt3079 Před rokem +1

      @@toyotabrony You should not reduce tire pressure to increase traction on snow or ice, mainly because it does not work. In fact, underinflated tires cause the engine to work harder, due to increased rolling resistance.
      Several vehicle manufacturer's owner's manuals recommend operating winter tires several psi (typically 3-5) higher than their recommended pressures for summer and all-season tires.
      Let's take an example of a car that has tires with a normal pressure of 40 psi. If you're driving at a constant speed on the highway and the roads are wet, here's how the pressure level breaks down in comparison to hydroplaning risk.
      If your tire pressure is severely under-inflated at only 25 psi, you can hydroplane at just 45 mph. For 30 psi, you hydroplane at a speed of 49 mph. At 35 psi, you'll hydroplane at 53 mph. Then at the ideal 40 psi, it's not until 57 psi that you begin to hydroplane.
      Of course, the weight of the car, the tread on the tires, and how the driver drives plays a significant role in your risk of hydroplaning. But having under inflated tires can play a role in your car hydroplaning, which is why you should keep your tires at their recommended pressure level.
      When you underinflate a tire, it droops, letting more of the tire touch the road. In certain cases - like driving in some snowy conditions and on sand - underinflating your tires is a great tactic.
      There is, however, a rub when it comes to underinflating winter tires, and it goes back to that enlarged contact patch. Extra traction is a good thing when you're driving in the snow, but it becomes a not-so-good thing once the roads are plowed. Underinflated tires will give you (believe-it-or-not) too much traction, which will lead to difficult steering - and a car you can't steer well, obviously, isn't all that safe. Also, depending on the depth of the snow you're driving in, properly inflated tires can sometimes more easily dig through the snow to the pavement below, whereas the wider underinflated tires will ride only on the surface of the snow. Finally, underinflation damages your tires and wheels.

      How about when u want to even the tires on dry pavement, and use a chalk test to see when it marks. It shows over inflated and under inflated. And it has to add air to the tires very correctly?
