Scott ToyGuru Neitlich the former Brand Manager for the Masters of the Universe Classics line from Mattel talks about the 4th figure in the line: Skeletor!
I remember being so stoked getting him. I just wanted more and more Motu figures to be made in the line. So glad we got the hundreds of characters that we did. Although,I’m still sad we never got a 200x Skeletor though 🥺
The Alcala Skele-head is still a work of absolute genius. It made an already superb figure into probably my favourite that I own. Plus that amazing Red Beast-Man pairs so very well with him - a long overdue bravo to you and the team!
As a fan and collector of this line since 1982 -- and as an erstwhile comics writer/illustrator -- I have to give full kudos to Mr. Neitlich for devising THE definitive Skeletor backstory. Combining the two mini-comics origins (1. "invader from another dimension" by Glut & Alcala; 2. "Skeletor might be Randor's brother Keldor" by author unknown) with the Mike Young 2000x series origin ("Skeletor IS Randor's brother Keldor!") AND an early Mark Taylor illustration (including the origin of Skeletor's greenish skull hue) is absolutely a stroke of sci-fi/fantasy genius. It's miles better than the "starving street urchin-turned-sorcerer" I envisioned as a kid, when the mini-comics story failed to enthrall me. I can only hope this version -- the MOTU Classic Skeletor origin story -- is the one the upcoming Netflix series creators will adhere to!
I can only imagine how much better these toys would have sold if this excellent commentary/ history was available at the time. Fans be like just take my money, please!
This was the first toy I ever got where I literally said “my god you’re beautiful!” Excellent figure! Plus I like hearing about the reasoning behind why things like Demo Man were added to the bios. If it makes more toys then I’m more than happy.
I remember when I received Skeletor in early 2009, I thouht, that this was real the ULTIMATE Skeletor ever. It all come together and one point. Also in artistic way. For me, Skeletor is the real villain and most important.
I made a somehow custome. Took Keldor's body, and used the skeletor head that came with Demo Man....always loved that version of Skeletor, and the old comics in general, and gave him the blue sword and axe from that weapons pack. Though I think he'd look very fearsome using Webstar's body, with that real dark blue.
I wish you would have gone a little bit more in-depth on the different head sculpts available for Skeletor and the differences between them. But maybe that's a great topic to cover in a another episode

The first I knew about this line was seeing Pixel Dan's review of the figure. By the time I saw it Hordak was being released, and I decided to pick those two up and leave it at that... then I saw Mer-man... and had to get him... and so on and so forth and now I have basically the whole line.
It sucks that the Classics line is done now. I was a huuuuge He-Man fan as a kid and i just found out about the Classics line a little while ago. I would love to get some for my son now that he’s old enough to play with them, but the only ones you can find now are $100s of dollars. I know they weren’t really for playing with, but they looked so good. The new Origin line’s bodies look weird, like the limbs are all too short.
I put together the original 2016 line up and was the marketer behind the concept of the line. But then I left Mattel and it was passed off to other folks. But I was the original planner of it if you will.

For myself, the original comics skeletor origin is my skeletor. Love the demonic monster from another realm idea.
We did note he went "temporarily mad" when merged with Demo man "thinking" he was from another dimension as an homage to this!

And that is exactly why we insisted on swappable parts on the MOTUC line from day 1

When I was a kid I took the arms off Faker and put them on Skeletor because I didn't like that his arms were skinnier than He-mans. :)

So glad we had Pixel Dan to help spread the word. The marking budget was a bit small...
