- RB Morris performs "That's How Every Empire Falls" from his 2012 album 'Spies, Lies & Burning Eyes' live in studio at WNRN. Covered by the likes of John Prine and Marianne Faithfull, "That's How Every Empire Falls" is a testament to Morris' resonant songwriting.

❤thanks I just have listened so many times ⚖️💕
Musical appreciation demands respect and gratitude for the songwriters.
It's an anthem for our times.
Apt description.
Oh wow! I love when this happens...I've been under the impression that John Prine wrote the song. He's a great song writer, it didn't occur to me to check. Now I've been learnt! And I have another great song writer to explore.
Amazing song and performance. I love his big, old Gibson Super Jumbo. It sounds superb and I love the sway and the gentle way he fingerpicks with the occasional soft knock to punctuate the phrases. John Prine’s version brought me here and I’m glad it did.
Just stunning. Prine's cover is a testament to the greatness of this song.
Thank you for an amazing song and letting John sing it. Thank you.
RB Morris is a treasure of Knoxville, TN. This song remains relevant and haunting
...unfortunately so
Oh yes.
RB Morris you played and sang it to perfection. Thanks for sharing your gift.
Sadly, even more relevant today. Beautiful and chilling.
John Prine's cover brought me here. This song is incredible.
Me too! Gotta learn more about this guy, for sure. Hope to catch him live some day, but I'm out in San Diego so I may have to lace up my travellin' shoes.
Same here, this song moved me to tears. I want to know more about this masterful songwriter who saw this day coming.
I never thought my country would fall this far. A few years ago, there were a handful of homeless in our area, now there are hundreds.
Yesterday I was run off the road by a diesel truck "rolling coal", with a huge trump flag mounted on a pole and a plethora of stickers with swaztikas, rebel flags, and obscene slogans. He has extra floodlights mounted on front of his ridiculous truck, very bright and illegal to drive on public roads like that. The cops around here won't ticket him, though. He might be one of them.
Me too. What a songwriter!!
Me too.
we came from Amos Lee through John Prine and this is still the best.
One of my favorite radio stations on the planet presenting R.B and one of the most poignant songs written. Love this version and John Prine's (R.I.P) cover of it.
Indescribable. Beautiful 🤩. I’m blown away.
I came here because of John Prine also. I love this version too. What a great songwriter, great singer too.
Some of the best songs in the world , as this one , will never be heard but for a small sprinkling of people . This, is a truly great piece of poetry set to a haunting melody, and it carries a powerful message that continues to ring true to this day . A True masterpiece in my opinion . Dylanesque . Thanks RBM. So happy I found you .
We saw RB in 1994 in Atlanta, in a songwriter show with Bo Ramsey, Steve Young, Lucinda Williams and Guy Clark. It was a great show, and one of the things that really impressed me was how Bo and RB held their own with the other three, who were probably a lot better known at the time.
Holy chit!! Hauntingly beautiful
I love John Prine’s version, I love Marianne Faithfull’s version, and I love this version. It goes to show how great a song this really is.
Even more now
This artist, RB Morris, is the songwriter.
@@stevesanders7217 no doubt, not sure everyone is getting that. Knoxville's Poet Laureate. Prine, rest his soul, was one of his generations greatest songwriters and soulful performers, but he also knew and respected genuine art. And Morris the genuine deal, a jewel of east Tennessee.
We are living it RB.
This is the best version I've heard.... Love you RB Morris !!!
Beautiful song
Had the pleasure to be around the bars artistic hovels and venues with RB as he was flashing his scimitar of creative songwriting around Knoxville - just a great poetic craftsman ...inspired me and tons of others....THX ! great times my friend!
Same here. The Old City, They World's Fair site, the Bijou and Tennessee Theatres, that restaurant I can't remember the name of, he might turn up anywhere. If you were lucky, and dedicated, and willing to pay, you could get guitar lessons with him. Deep rooted east Tennessean. Knoxville's Poet Laureate. Jewel in the rough.
What a wonderful song
This is so wonderful ...... emotion drifts . . . . Love it ~
Such a good song.
Love this .... the man, and his music
Thank you, RB. Thank you.
Thank you RB.
Just stunning. Shakes me to my core with every listening. It matters little who covers it.Many have.
It's a story. Damn.
did not know about him , many treasures are kept hidden!
thank you
Ken Is Free Yeah, throughout a lifetime you discover so many, but think of all that slip by unnoticed. There’s a lot of undiscovered people out there doing amazing things.
For a songwriter to have had their words sung by another songwriter named Prine, who seldom covered others, must've
been intended to bring light to this talent.
@@nawtyurbzniis6134 RB went on tour as the opener with Prine on one of his latter tours.
Gifted poet.
Nice version of a great song. Thanks.
Does anyone know which administration Mr. Morris channeled for the inspiration for this song. He released it in 2012.
thank you...inspired so
Awesome man. Thanks
My absolute favorite recording of his........ love this !!!!
Hear it and weep
As good as it gets.
RB Morris will perform at this years Big Ears Festival! RB is a consummate singer/songwriter that should get more notice... I added this to my 'Big Ears Festival 2024 playlist: czcams.com/play/PLOtOQ0mMukD_OIfYqlC6iS8KqKI-GtQoB.html&si=HdRUvJoXf8uD1h7h
5 stars
I. Just. Can't.
Love this.... who wrote it ? Prine ?
janhomes50 This singer, JB Morris, wrote it, and I love his version, too. But...John Prine's rendition still somehow moves me most....
The man singing, R. B. Morris.
When John Prine sang this song it sounded like a John Prine song. It seems like good songwriters, when they
record someone else's work usually pick something really good.
What an amazing anthem. He covers it all: politics, religion, family, homelessness, and threats from foreign powers. He wrote this in 2012, during the Biden administration.
Desde un país de mierda (egoísta y miserable) chile... un gran y hermoso saludo.. espero estar vivo para CUANDO CAIGAN LOS IMPERIOS......
What do the initial RB stand for? The B is Bruce. What is the R?
rhythm and blues, roast beef 😀
Realising that this was written about America 4 years before before you-know-who was elected president just makes it all seem so much more bleak. You folks really need to change the way you're headed.
building walls is how every empire has fell....learn history....jericho is the example on walls your bible gave
