    • @SwirlEP
      @SwirlEP Před 7 lety +4

      mario64remix I remember when in an early episode (before the retro gaming boom) one of them put a $200-250 value on an opened but CiB SNES. That was the first episode I ever saw and the last.
      Then there was the rookie who thought his first model NES was a development kit because of the 1 in the serial #. I remember a bunch of people in my circle laughing at that.

    • @mario64remix
      @mario64remix Před 7 lety +5

    • @jarvindriftwood
      @jarvindriftwood Před 7 lety +3

      I didn't mind it at the beginning. I'll admit, I live in a very cheap area so I gave them some benefit of the doubt on pricing. Dave was always notoriously bad for overpricing shit, though. I lost a bit of interest when Barry left and moreso when Dave returned as Rene's demeanor changed around that time and Jared and Brandi were on far less episodes. But yeah, the estimates seemed to keep going higher and higher. I'd much rather just watch American Pickers now.

    • @mario64remix
      @mario64remix Před 7 lety +3

      Jarvin Driftwood, I stopped watching these kind of shows many moons ago after I realized they are fake. I just think it's a weird concept to price stuff randomly found in a locker on tv, because basically, that's all it is.
      I wouldn't say I live in a cheap area but even the most expensive items don't hold a candle to what I've seen on tv lol.

  • @Aeonova
    @Aeonova Před 7 lety +24

    I realized it was fake (hadn't really put any thought into it before this) when they opened one locker up, and all of the moving boxes has duct tape covering up the logos on the boxes. No sane person would ever cover up brand logos of the boxes they picked up to move/store stuff in, except for... producers of the show that saw that as being easier than blurring out all of the copyrighted logos. Yeah. If you ever watch this show, keep an eye out for that sort of thing again.

      If you come and call yourself a "CZcamsr" and you're not even making money from it, you're an idiot. You might be aspiring to become a CZcamsr, but you're definitely not there yet. There are exceptions, as an example 4-8Productions that has a lot of views, but they didn't make money for years because they were flagged as trying to cheat the system by having a fan click the videos hundreds of times. Long story short, "CZcamsr" is a profession. Having a CZcams channel is a hobby.

      At least with a few of those shows they give you an interesting look at the history of the items. If anyone is fixing a value to an item based on a reality TV show, they've already failed. The price of an item is what someone will give you for that item; not what you want for said item.

      They've done far less than the internet and global marketing have, imo, which is the root of the problem (and obviously a double edged sword as they have some good points.) Everyone with a smart phone can now be a pro scalper from scanning barcodes and have "expert" knowledge due to google, ebay, etc. The global market is okay for some stuff, but it's far from the end all, be all. Especially when there's so many people too lazy to put shit up on ebay.
      As for those shows not doing any good, I think Pickers and Road Show have done a decent job overall going over what some stuff is. Compared to Storage Wars where you get like 3 or so things appraised and most of them are either so rare you'll never see one or some joke item that's not worth much.

      UltimateDrDoom bro it's just a tv show who actually cares how much they price it and plus pat was in pawn stars and it's basically the same thing and that total was just rounded on their top of their head cuz it would take forever to price every single one of those games and it would probably take weeks or even months so I don't see why people are mad for just a price and plus anyone can price on things whatever they want cuz it's a free country

    • @PatTheNESpunk
      @PatTheNESpunk  Před 7 lety +8

      The lawsuit wasn't about slander - it was about wrongful termination and unfair business practices claimed by Hester against the show. In short, he claimed that producers were setting up units and giving other show bidders money to buy the units against him, thereby creating a show no longer about "intellectual skill," but rather one that was manipulating results. It was settled.

    The thing that kills me about Storage Wars is that if they sprinkle the gold mine, that means that they either have a key for the lock on the locker and just cut it anyway, or that they literally cut the lock in order to get in and sprinkle the gold mine, and then put a NEW lock just for it to be cut on camera.

    i saw that one storage ward where they reckoned they found a delorean that hadn't been touched for 20 years and it started up straight away. There's absolutely no chance that car hadn't been prepared in advance. There's no reason to believe the entire show isnt staged. it would not follow a compelling narrative unless they stage almost all of it.

    Shows like Storage wars are part of the reason I hate retro game collecting as they drive up prices on items, and give false information just to make the show finds(some of them fake) "more exciting" for just the reasons you said so Grandma thinks the Atari her kid, or grandchild left at her place years back is worth way more then it really is, and it ends make it harder for true collectors and fans to find the games they want at a decent price.

    I remember watching these episodes and they would have a tub of dvds and CDs and say like “oh 5 bucks a piece this tub is 2500!” They always grossly overestimated on this show. It’s just for views I assume. I worked at a used media store and we offer 25-50 cents a piece on this type of stuff wholesale. And that’s generous right now. We’ll see when the nostalgia wave hits CDs but until then they’re coasters.
