Even though the idea of beerus didn’t exist then if this was in the same universe it wouldn’t make sense for goku to stop using his ssj god forms and ultra instinct although I hope they do eventually get ssj4 into the canon

Toriyama said GT is a Sidestory to HIS Original Dragon Ball. That's the MANGA (not the Anime) known as simply... DRAGON BALL. Not even Z. Toei owns the Anime including Z, and GT is Toei's.
As Akio Iyoku (DB Room Head/Shueisha) says... Dragon Ball is a NON-STRICT Timeline so there's more freedom of creativity.
Fans should stop trying to create their own Dragon Ball by covering up inconsistencies, bad writing or plot holes when the Head Office LITERALLY DO NOT CARE about the Timeline that way.

Having quietly ended Dragon Ball in serialization, I, who am lazy by nature, was happy to finally be liberated from Deadline Hell.
テレビアニメの方はもうすこし続けたいとのことでしたが、ボクはもうこれ以上は…。というわけでドラゴンボールのアニメはストーリーも含め、すっかりアニメスタッフの方々におまかせすることになったのです。
The people from the TV anime were wanting to continue just a little further, but since I didn't want to do any more than I already had, I ended up leaving everything, including the story, up to the people on the anime staff.

That is "Dragon Ball GT".
GTというのはクルマ用語で「グランツーリスモ」つまり速くて高性能なクルマってことですが、この場合は宇宙を駆けまわるっていう設定でしたので「グランドツーリング」壮大な旅という意味を込んでGTとしました。
"GT" is an automotive term, "gran turismo" -- in other words, a fast, powerful car. But in this case, since the plan was to be running all around the universe, I made it GT, carrying the meaning of a great journey, "grand touring."
GTでボクがやったことといえば このタイトルと最初の主要メンバー、一部のメカデザインと数枚のイメージカットだけですが、ずっとドラゴンボールを続けていただいてきた優秀なスタッフのみなさんなので 安心して おまかせすることができたのです。
In GT, the only contributions that I made were the title, the initial main character designs, some of the mecha designs, and a number of image cuts. But thanks to the excellent staff that I was having keep continuing Dragon Ball, I was able to relax and leave it to them.
とくに、アニメーターの中鶴くんは すごい腕前で、ボクの絵のクセなんかをあっというまに会得してしまい、ときどき自分でも このキャラデザインを描いたのは、ボクか？中鶴くんか？ などとわからなくなることがあったりするぐらいです。
In particular, the animator Nakatsuru-kun is so skilled, and has such understanding of the peculiarities of my drawings, that there have been times that even I have been like, "Did I draw this character design, or did Nakatsuru-kun?," not being able to tell the difference.

Super Saiyan 4 is the one thing i hope becomes canon. To me, ssj4 was Goku and Vegeta’s peak. That form looks much more godly than Blue. Imagine ssj4 with destruction energy.
It really isn't a question that Dragon Ball GT doesn't work/fit within the continuities of the Dragon Ball Super series, and it's likewise never really been a question about GT existing outside of the standard canonicity of the mainline source comic from Akira Toriyama. However, Dragon Ball GT is still the only sequel series for DBZ in Toei Animation's original Dragon Ball TV anime continuity.
What's far more interesting to talk about, I would argue, is just how pervasive and omnipresent Dragon Ball GT remains even to this day. Were you to go into a coma in 1997, wake up today, and open up an issue of your favorite magazine -- Shueisha's monthly V-Jump, of course! -- you wouldn't think that GT had ever gone anywhere. It's filled with GT action figure marketing, Dragon Ball Heroes card and storyline inclusions with GT characters (and even NEW FORMS for said GT characters!) front and center, ads for the GT anime comic running over in Saikyō Jump, and so on and so forth.
(And this is all alongside the DB Super manga serialized in the exact same magazine!)
I understand why folks might get hung up on "canon": there are a literal million different things out there to consume in the Dragon Ball franchise these days -- from TV series to comics to movies to video games to adaptations thereof -- and if you're coming in fresh (or returning to it after a long time), it's overwhelming to try and figure out "what's real" or "what's important" to watch.
But don't get hung up on that. Don't worry about it. The people actually making the franchise in Japan really don't care about canonicity or make a particularly big deal about it. Every once in a while you'll get a random splash on a promotional manga handout making some sort of declaration... but that's about it.
They're just making things to make things to sell to you, and they want you to want all of it. Pick and choose what you want, like what you want, talk about what you want...
…but, please, anyone reading this, don't use canonicity to talk down to or dismiss your fellow fans.

A Xenoverse with multiple histories with multiple dimensions within a multiverse
If I'm remembering this correctly, the series of DB, DBZ, and DBGT movies that were released during the time of the shows were in themselves considered side stories or no cannon with the current events of the show (similar to Vision of Escaflone tv show and it's movie). With DBS being the cannon continuation of the DBZ show timeline and the DBS movies being cannon as well, I like to think of DBGT as events that place in the future of the DBZ movie cannon (call it an alternate timeline if you will). Unless something happens in the DBS timeline that destroys the current power level and undoes all the events covered in those arcs, (maybe the Angels and the Destruction Gods have to be defeated, and time was rewinded to before the events of DBS, but without Zeno, the Angels and Destruction Gods are not brought back and there for GT moves forward as it would've. Or something like that I don't know. I blame Trunks for coming back to the past so often. Once, you get Back to the Future pt2, too many times and you get Terminator Genesys.
no in the time of dragonball and dragonballz and gt, the movies were/are cannon. sure there was a comic. but the same group of people made the show and movies at the same time. all the credits and packages are the exact same. lol. even every trade mark videogame has dragonball, z and gt and every movie character. proves its cannon and no copyright issues.
If you liked Dragon Ball, you loved Dragon Ball GT. It was so heartfelt and meaningful! Some of it was dumb ass hell like many parts on the dragon ball series!
GT IS CANON and OFFICIAL, Toei OWNS Dragon Ball so anything they make is canon/official it’s just different continuity, now if you say: Toriyama didn’t make it, You’d be right (even though he made the character designs, the logo and other art pieces) but Toriyama made the story for Dragon Ball Online/Xenoverse(1+2) (I think he did both xenoverse games I know he did one of them though) so you’re arguments are INVALID

There’s a way you could have Dragon Ball Super happen after GT. You can even have Dragon Ball Super happen before GT. You would have to rewrite GT.

Why couldn't they just retcon the end of GT to have Super come after? Then make up some excuse as to why Beerus as been away all this time. Then boom problem solved. Then have Goku's grandson come way after that. Imagine how simple that would be
Could you do an in depth video on exactly what timeline is in each of the emerald time rings? I can’t seem to line them all up in my head
A new (emerald) Time Ring is created every time a mortal (or maybe even a god) travels to the past and creates a new parallel timeline.
Initially from what we saw, there were four emerald green Time Rings, meaning four parallel timelines. This _at least_ includes Cell's timeline, Future Trunks's timeline, the timeline that Future Trunks originally created where there is no second time machine with Cell, and Goku Black's timeline (which was our main timeline up until the events of the Future Trunks arc).
It was said by Gowasu that mortal from Universe 12 traveled to the past and changed history "long ago," so my own personal head-canon on the matter is that the mortal from Universe 12 created Cell's timeline since it was the original timeline of the ones introduced in the Android and Cell arcs. That keeps it consistent with the original timeline and multiple parallel timelines created through time travel.
Later, a new Time Ring is created when Beerus kills Zamasu and creates another parallel timeline (which was technically already created when Future Trunks created a new history that deviated from Goku Black's timeline). So at that point, there were five emerald Time Rings. Then, the Zen'ō from Future Trunks's timeline destroyed his entire world (not the whole timeline, but just the current world of Future Trunks's timeline), erasing one of the Time Rings for some reason, and thus bringing the number of Time Rings back down to four.
With Whis's help, a new timeline was created in which there are two Future Trunkses and Future Mais. This created a fifth emerald Time Ring again. So here are the timelines (outside of _Super Dragon Ball Heroes_ and _Dragon Ball Xenoverse_ of course):
1. Unknown, original timeline (no Time Ring for this, unless it could be the silver Time Ring)
2. Cell's timeline, which was possibly created by the time-traveling mortal from Universe 12 (emerald Time Ring #1)
3. The timeline Future Trunks created in his first trip to the past (emerald Time Ring #2)
4. Goku Black's timeline / the timeline created when a second time machine, and subsequently Cell's existence, were discovered by Bulma, Future Trunks, and Gohan (emerald Time Ring #3)
5. Future Trunks's timeline, created when he returned to his future world with the strength and knowledge to defeat the Android 17 and 18 and Cell of his world (emerald Time Ring #4; destroyed)
6. The timeline created when Future Trunks traveled to the past for help against Goku Black / the timeline where Beerus killed Zamasu (emerald Time Ring #5)
7. The second timeline of Future Trunks created at the end of the Future Trunks arc of the _Super_ manga and TV series (emerald Time Ring #6 / the new emerald Time Ring that replaces emerald Time Ring #4)

Dragon Ball GT is now Canon thru Anime Timeline
All of dragon ball is canon, to its own timeline, we’ll eventually get the multiverse cannon like how the promo anime for heroes showed us
For GT to be cannon they would have to do a memory wipe of everyone meaning they don't remember the gods and Zeno and they would have to make the characters somehow lose their ability to transform into God's

It's like Star Wars - it was made out of order, watched that way and still makes sense. The link from Super to GT hasn't been announced yet though, so of course it's confusing. I believe one day we will see the storylines converge and explained
Yeah but in Dragon Ball super it's showing that there's only five timelines at the beginning of the black ark and six by the end of it and we know every single one of those alternate timelines none of them are GT

The way I see it Super and GT are both soft cannon. Although I can see GT being more legit than Super since it doesn't contradict with Z and require as many retcons
i think i figured it out, battle of the gods is cannon, and some of super is, but the alt timeline is goku black,and everything that happend, thats the new alt 'what if' time line.. gt is the original ending if they didnt keep using the time machine....
Jeez, yea, theres no Gods in GT, but by THAT logic DBZ aint canon either, cause why is Goku all of a sudden an Alien from another planet with ppl making his tail a huge deal, when there were animal people with animal parts all over the planet in og Dragonball and then all of a sudden they barely exsist in Z?!?!
Dragonball was and still is HUGE, makes alot of money and there for the series constantly changed as it kept going, even though Toriyama wanted to end it in the early 90s after the Freezer Saga, then after Cell, .... the manga and anime studios kept pressuring him to keep going, so just because its not in the original manga doesnt make it non canon, cause again, Toriyama had most likley contracts that forced him into the Boo saga for example, wich should be known, wasnt his favorite!
Also, by that logic Super aint canon either, because that one wasnt part of the original Dragonball manga either and just started after the 2 Z movies came to theaters in the early 2010s!
GT is as much canon as Super, if not more actually, since it atleast tried to be original and didnt just shoehorn a made up story inbetween the orginal Dragonball ending that doesnt really fit at all!
Im not a super hater btw, i didnt care for it alot, since its first 2 arcs are basically the movies in worse, so it felt alot like a cheap cashgrab to me, if anything the whole disscussion about GT being canon or not made me actually dislike it and its whole fandom arround it!
I recently started watching DBGT and as much as i like the design of SS4 Goku, his fights and his transformation are boring and all he does are kameha waves, its as if GT only had the rights to the kameha wave and no other blast, only fight i liked was the one where he punched a hole through a demon dragon i think it was
I know this is a relatively old video but I thought I would get my opinions on it anyway I will always consider Dragon Ball super a skew off timeline it is not part of the original continuation there's too many facts that goes against that GT Akira Toriyama said you could consider GT hey Side Story for the official continuation but solely over the years the official continuation got put to the side when he actually stated that you could consider it of official continuation or Side Story says to me it was always Canon because he had something to do with it give me the word non-canon means that a creator has absolutely nothing to do with the continuation series that means no character sketches no design art not even promoting it which Akira Toriyama did draw a character design art for the show that was you saw throughout GT promoted so it makes it Canon it's not like GT is Dragon Ball Multiverse are Dragon Ball Deliverance which had nothing to do with these shows restrict Lee fan-made but great none the less but as for super it's Canon but just in an alternate timeline it will never change anything at the end of Dragon Ball Z it won't affect GT either just the fact that Majin Buu is even in super puts it in an alternate timeline because when they link the Supreme Kai's life with beerus' beerus would have destroyed Kid Buu long ago because Kid Buu is killing the Supreme Kai's a causing massive unrest instability in beerus's universe and the fact that Goku and Vegeta have been so severely regressed is another point and that the fact that beerus wasn't even a thought to tell Frieza to destroy the saiyan race despite some fans trying to connect super into Dragon Ball Z it just will never work due to the fact that Dragon Ball Dragon Ball Z in GT you're in the wrong timeline regardless if fans want to acknowledge it is biguenet way that's just the way it is super is the alternate timeline and at the fact that beerus at Bulmas party didn't automatically go flying off the handle or didn't even acknowledge Majin Buu's existence even though Majin Buu supposedly has been around ever since the beginning of the universe so this is another point that Dragon Ball super is an alternate timeline but those are my thoughts so I can think of far more facts that go against super being anyting part of the original continuity.

i will never accept Super to the canon. Because almost every character and the story itselt is completely messed up and humiliated. GT ist a bit messed up at the beginning, but gets better and better. And its a more logical sequel.

Who said GT was a dislike 3rd kid? We filipino kids really enjoy this show. I remember seeing Pan for the first time as it feels like Goku and the gang really get the peace what the world deserves.
And suddenly a new twist come bec Pan is the new main character and his grandfather goku turns into a child.

Well you could say it was a different time line
Goku doesn't look like a monkey in ssj4. More like a lion. And somehow they grow their pants back after becoming a giant naked ape. I like ssj4. But the pants growing back thing always bothered my ocd but glad they kept pants in. Guess they didn't want goku to put on his pants every time he transformed.
I love the baby ace and also the black dragon balls but other than that you really don't have anything that stands up and the writing really wasn't that good name remember they hid the first couple of episodes from everybody cuz it would not good still non-canon because I do have to go back and read written the whole entire story of GT to make it fit
GT was great. Super 17 was my favorite. Came really close to killing Goku. Technically only lost due to 18 getting in his way and messing with his mind.
I liked gt when I saw it in the states so I bought it even though I never saw it on TV to me it was really awesome and it's the only complete set dragon ball related that I own but I saw dragon ball and dragon ball z on tv and then I bought all 10 volumes of dragon ball super
How the story is gt is Canon it's just an Alternate time-line. like trunks "future" but trunks time-line is important. its one with no goku forcing super Genius scientist bulma to make a time machine to go to the "past" that sent trunks to another time-line. All the movies and side stories are Canon but in the same time-line.

In Super Dragon Ball Heroes, GT is part of many alternate timelines. Outside of Super DB Heroes, the events of GT are part of other alternate continuities like Toei's original anime continuity and Toriyama's original manga continuity.

I don't think this counts as gatekeeping. It'd be gatekeeping if people said "you're not a real fan if you think GT is canon," or something similar.

Toriyama helped with GT, the company owns the series and endorse GT products, lastly there a so many issues with Z's lore matching Super. GT actually does better fitting into the lore. I actually like both Super and GT and wished they would have kept them both in a straight line with Super coming after GT in the lore. Imagine SSJ4 Gogeta getting cocky with Beerus and finding out the hard way there's somebody stronger by getting mopped.

Warning: long, well-informed explanation/rant on why GT IS CANON if you're still doubting its legitimacy....... Instead of an "alternate timeline" it's more accurately a separate continuity. The original one, to be more specific. There's a split in Dragon Ball's continuity and doesn't start from Z. Nope. It actually splits from the original Dragon Ball anime and goes as follows: OG Ball > Z > GT. This is the classic, completed version of the story. The new, modern story goes: Ball > KAI > Super (ongoing). Because of Kai's existence, Z has more or less been rewritten/retconned. This means whatever happened before and after Z, stays. Filler included. But again, because of Kai's existence, anything can change within Super because it's part of the modern continuity. So, any changes or retcons that happen in this modern version only pertain to Kai. Ball too, but lore wise only. The OG Ball can be seen though two different lenses until they retell it. Furthermore, one thing I want to point out is that there is only ONE sequel to Z, and it's not DBS. No. It is in fact GT since it takes place AFTER Z. Super isn't a sequel at all, not even to Kai. Why? Because it takes place in between two events from its predecessor. i.e., after the death of Buu, but before the 28th world martial arts tournament. This kind of story is called an interquel, not a sequel despite being told after the original story. Hense why a prequel is not called a "sequel". Lastly, on the topic of "canon", GT has been and always will be canon for a few reasons. The people who own Dragon Ball made it. It's an official IP, not fan made. Not only that, but the original creator did work on it with the name, logo, character designs, plot points and designed the spaceship they travel in. AND gave it the green light to publish. People like to say it has no manga, therefore, not canon. Even this statement is incorrect because GT DOES in fact have a manga. It's in the form of an animanga, but that's still a manga. This argument of if it has a manga or not is irrelevant anyway because Super Dragon Ball Heroes has a manga too, yet, people will say it's also noncanon. People need to understand that saying "it's noncanon" is an incomplete statement because it lacks context. Noncanon...TO WHAT? The Dragon Ball IP? Because it is canon to that. This is where you have to understand that EVERYTHING has its own canon. I've been trying to push this information to everyone for quite some time. I'm glad some people are finally starting to see the truth.

Do you actually have any good reasons to hate GT or did you simply go along with the bandwagon because everyone you knew around you told you this so went by the time you actually went to go see GT you already had a picture already painted for you and are simply just caring that energy from the bandwagon or do you actually have legitimate reasons for why you hate it?

I believe GT is cannon to the dbz saga but gods of destruction & angels and zeno do not Exist in reality we did not need to thous charaecters we had God's wich was king kai west kai south kai east kai the Grand kai and then the supreme kais that's it gods that lookt over our Galaxys gods that watched over space and time I'm not a fan anymore of dragon ball super becuse it's not the same any more full filler and lame transformation it just a cash cow.

Honestly I love GT it was really good, the only problem was the absolute shitty dub, goku being a kid again which was stupid, and slightly slow storytelling.
Dragon Ball GT needs to be remade entirely to be canon in my opinion.

Edit: because I know people are going to say Toriyama wrote super so it’s officially canon... no he didn’t, he gave character designs and a few footnotes to both the Toei writers and Toyotaro and had them come up with the story. The exact same thing he did for GT.
