    Broadside nerf is a huge oof. Really love those guys so that’s sad. Biggest bummer to me is the Mont’ka change as Kroot now don’t get lethals which I thought was kinda cheeky and fun.

    In my opinion the strike team would be so much better if they just got rid of the line “in your shooting phase.” Then they would actually do something with overwatch.

    I think something like the stormsurge could have a rule that ignores the penalties of firing to a second unit when guided

      You can use the rest of your army to whittle some units down then split fire with wind riders to finish off the different units to farm fate dice. Situational for sure though

    There actually is an Enhancement change! It's just not marked for some reason. Internal Grenade Racks was 30 points in the Codex and is 20 in the MFM and app. People I saw were already considering it an autoinclude at 30, and at 20 it's nuts.

    One change I was really hoping for was an updated that enabled the Puretide Engram to do something. Either make an exception for it so that you can reuse non-battle tactice strats or remove the core rule change that forbids duplicate strategms. Not sure the implications of the latter but wouldve been nice if we got the former

    I've been staying abreast of the Tau rules just to "know your foe" and be aware of their tricks & builds. I'm very tempted to start a Tau force now due to their seemingly stable points values and rules. It's pretty tiring for most other armies to have to learn new points and rules every three months.

    I think the big question for me is what most lists will bring for reliable anti-tank, as we are still in a vehicle-heavy meta. 2 Hammerheads? 3? Sky Rays? Sunforge? Broadsides even with the big increase? (I've even seen people suggesting fusion Ghostkeels!)

    • @Vinterloft

    Not sure if anyone has brought it up. But in the app, both coldstar and enforcer commanders do not have the * beside cyclic ions to indicate they cant take doubles. And when you equp multiple on them, no errors show up in the app. Do you think this is a glitch/typo? Or another un documented change?

  • @killahertz7124
    @killahertz7124 Před měsícem +4

    Breachers don't really have a lot of competition when it comes to BATTLELINE units in this army which are good at actually assaulting objectives. Kroot are expensive Cadians with worse saves and less gun, Strike teams have a defensive ability and can't hurt most units. Breachers are the only unit in Tau which can actually successfully take objectives with their datasheet rule, oc2, assault keyword and decent strength.
    If Breachers keep getting pushed up, what realistically does Tau have when it comes to assaulting objectives? We don't have endless swarm outside Kroot detachment, we don't have melee bruisers which can flip an objective (rampagers just don't have the same impact) we don't have Terminator bricks that can just make objectives inconvenient to live on, Breacher Devilfish package is basically singlehandedly holding our primary scoring together.

    • @ArtofWar40k
      @ArtofWar40k  Před měsícem +1

      Its why I prize breachers so much and prefer montka and kauyon to ret cadre as that detachment doesnt help breachers at all

      @@ArtofWar40k It does unfortunately pigeonhole the army into a singular combo of units when it comes to assaulting objectives with success. Not that I have a problem with Breachers, they brought be back to 40k in 8th but is a problem when it comes to flexibility of army building

    One weird thing with the codex I'll be curious about - they've removed the limit on CIBs for both commander datasheets in the codex, as well as reverting the range nerf on the riptide's twin plasma, without noting anything in the errata. The functionality of the listbuilder and the 'wargear options' section of the datasheet both agree on this, so I'll be curious to see if this was a mistake or they just changed their mind between when the books were printed and now.

  • @Vinterloft
    @Vinterloft Před měsícem +2

    Damn straight on the riptide. It's dead for me until they give it some anti-tank capability. Just make it more expensive and improve the weapons. There's no reason for such a centrepiece to be JUST ANOTHER horde killing unit that can sometimes be a BAD elite-killing unit. If I can't point it at a Rhino and KNOW it will go to high heaven then I'm not buying one.

  • @Andrewspieces

    42:33 - My thoughts exactly. It seems a bit exploitative, and makes it difficult to justify your investment into the hobby. I returned to 40K 10th, not playing since 4th edition, and always wanting to build a T'au army. Following Art of War has been greatly informative, it's just a shame that Games Workshop change the information so fast that you get burned trying to keep up. I don't mean to be too negative, but I'm just hurt that I can't play my Tetras in Tournaments anymore, in addition to the removal of Cyclic weapons, so kind of a double blow.

  • @dissa
    @dissa Před měsícem +1

    That's kinda odd how Ethereals don't have FtGG. Is it because they don't have a gun? Would attaching them to a Fire Warrior unit, allow the Ethereal to use one one of guiding enhancements?

    • @owensmith2995
      @owensmith2995 Před měsícem +2

      What is extremely odd is they don’t have ftgg but they can still take marker drones which only do stuff when guiding in…. Ftgg

    • @crashstarr6531
      @crashstarr6531 Před měsícem +2

      It does, but they have to join either breachers or strike teams, who both already have markerlight (making an ethereal bringing marker drones just as useless), and then you're either making breachers act as observers (you want them being guided) or bringing a whole 80pt useless strike team just to carry your 50 pt ethereal's 20pt guiding enhancement - not a great value proposition

  • @redrix1787
    @redrix1787 Před měsícem +13

    I'm still just so confused on how GW handled the riptide this edition. A riptide battlesuit deserves to be the same toughness as a rhino? they just dont do the damage or have the durability they should, nor are they worth 180 pts.

    • @owensmith2995
      @owensmith2995 Před měsícem +1

      They are most certainly worth 180 points for the package, but I’d like to see them with 250 points worth of rules. Something like s9 ion gun s10 overcharged, or s8 s9 overcharged with anti vehicle 4+ or 5+ which would work with its dev wound ability very well. And likewise for the burst cannon, it could go to 18 shots at s6 ap1 damage 2 and then give it anti damage infantry 3 up or 4 up which would again pair much better with its dev wound ability. I would much rather pay 250 points for those improvements.

    @21:55 I suppose there's an argument to be made that the reason for the point disparity between Mega Nobz and Kroot Rampagers is contextual. Orks are all about big beefy melee units, and Tau aren't. If Rampagers had the Mega Nobz datasheet and point cost, you'd run three units of six of them in every single list wouldn't you?

    A lot of people have been doom and glooming in my LGS discord about sunforge going up. But in my opinion it’s really not that horrible of a change. Fireknife went down 15, starscthye went down 10, if like me you took a fireknife, starscthye and 2 sunforges that whole package still went down 5 points. So yes they are costed but they most certainly are not unplayable like a lot of people on Reddit and discord are claiming.
    Broadsides at 110 a pop hurts my soul, maybe 100 points a piece I’ll take triple units, but they are so cp hungry in Montka that yes they are good but for a 330 point unit I would prefer to get value out of them even without stacking a bunch of strats in them. Good still? Yes but I think I would rather have a Breacher fish and starscythe unit for a relatively similar cost with a relatively similar role and the ability to be in multiple places and requiring less strat support.

    What about the fact that commanders are not restricted to 1 CIB only on the app now? Is it a mistake or something that could stay? Cause a Coldstar with 4 CIBs in a unit of Starcythe is lethal as f. I want to run 3.
