Excited to see what comes out of this new regulation. Ps Apple might completely dodge this by fulfilling certain requirements posed by the EU.
If they do that the phone will not be waterproof anymore
Replacable batteries means less work for you
I think the excuse to not have to do this is if the capacity of the battery is high enough or high enough "quality" hence why it's more likely they won't be making removable battery iPhones any time soon
Apple will not make a removable battery

Nah the law mandates it has to be easy access self removable. What you just described is what is currently going on

I love how the EU is fixing US companies with what the US Congress is too old to fix.
Idk, everything was great until EU started doing their shitty regulations, they're trying to limit this company as much as they can, removable battery will be bad for water protection, changing out the battery right NOW is not a big deal.
Well, the US Congress is getting quite a lot of money so that such laws don't get passed or issues get fixed.
Many Americans don’t want what the EU is doing. Centralizing power to control private companies? Sure, sounds like a great idea…

Knowing Apple, they're probably going to make their phones only work when you're using a special Apple battery, and once it breaks you'll be forced to buy one of Apple's replacements for $200+ since third party options won't work.
They are already doing this. They won't show the battery health percentage and will intentionally make your phone worse if you were to have the battery from a third party instead of Apple's batteries. But they could take it to the next level and make the phone just not boot up at all.

im starting to think that EU is the bitch, not apple
We used to do this back in the day
Ya know? I'd buy a phone that ejected the battery like a magazine. Build a capacitor into the phone that gives you just enough time to reload. I'd be swapping batteries every time I walk by the charger lol.

Hey that comes with the added bonus if the port died you can change it.
Wireless charging is more convenient in this case anyway - I used one phone with dead port for quite a while this way. How you are going to charge battery without phone? Buy second one or use laboratory power supply? Stay offline every time phone is charging? Carry second battery and risk combustion if pierced?
Removable batteries are ok - but I would like to opt out because I prefer structural integrity. I hope than phones closed with screws will be acceptable.
@@AxoiTanner hmm i respect your opinion but i prefer to tinker my stuff and wireless charging isn't really wireless anyway. With the added components and for double the distance the speed of the charging decrease by 1/4 its not efficient or even good for batteries. So hey you do you.

I wish LG could have looked into the future with their software updates because that was my major gripe with my LG G4.
Let’s all take a moment to recognise how ahead LG were. RIP The real king of the smartphone market.
Companies were not afraid to try new things back in the day and LG was unmatched in this case. Rip LG phones
The LG Method is cool tho, like reloading a gun. 😂
Imagine you just have a "bottom port ejector pin" for your phone 😭
Its sad that the EU has to mandate stuff like this instead of the US.
The US will never do something pro consumer. The EU has a loooong history of making laws protecting consumers and workers. The US doesnt have any of that.
Well, yes. But: The EU is also a significantly larger market than the US. ~120 million more people to be exact. This market is too important to lose. It's the 3rd largest market after China and India, so it has some significant power when it comes to these things. Because: Add USB-C and lose some money from MFI or don't add USB-C and lose the entire market. That's easy math.
As to why it's the EU and not the US government taking care of such things... IDK. Money, I guess.
This regulation doesn’t apply to Apple because all waterproof devices are exempt from the regulation. Lol
@@FlyByWire1 its a good thing that so far no iphone is water proof. Theyre just water resistant.
@@sapphicmystery2734 iPhones are excluded from the regulation. That has already been confirmed by the EU. Any mobile device that is sealed for the purposes of any water ingress protection is excluded. The proposed regulation is public. You could go read the details if you want. Better luck next time.
The back glass is user removable with a suction cup tool provided in the box while the SIM card tray could also be moved into that space where the battery is user removable. It would have no adhesive but would have an air tight interlocking rubber seal around the edges to keep up the water resistance of the device.
Naaah i remember that was so bad. When you drop the phone battery ravels out almost every time
Because it ditched the battery, it lost the bulk of its mass. So the expensive parts of the phone wouldn't be damaged as much (battery for my LG G4 was only €15).
I have one of these, was a shame when the battery died because it happened in around lockdown so it was more than it was worth to fix it. I miss that phone, to think it was ridiculed when launched 😢.

Apple won‘t do this. Waterproofed devices are exempted from this regulation.
every phone manufacturer could literally steal or renovate the tech for custom looped watercooled pcs for water resistance lol
who even can accidentally drop a phone to a wet surface with the phone opened up? even a latch tech could be integrated there

Water resistance be like I'm out guys😂
There some water resistance really that comes with removal battery
We had this feature back in 2011 too. What a time to be alive!
I think companies should give a battery tray like sim tray and battery ejector pin 🤔🤔
Loved the G5 accessories like the B&O speaker and 3D camera was a nice touch the ability to carry a few extra batteries helped and although the charge port broke often it was an easy replacement
buy the battery separate
Apple should make it like the sim card slot, when you take out sim card slot it should take out battery aswel
Like chargers, they will also remove the battery.
Battery: 'Not included in box'
*Battery should be purchased separately.
No they wouldn't. Its like selling a PC PSU-less. Sure, techies could manage but its way too much effort.
In the future, you'll have to buy all the parts seperately (but you would only be able to put them into a new phone ofc, not as a replacement parts)
Y’all need to get over that. Apple had been using the same brick and cable for 8 years at that point. Most of their consumers are returning customers and even if they weren’t they more than likely had a compatible brick at home. Samsung immediately followed suit after as well. It save them money and the government gives kickbacks for going green. Companies are there to make money, they don’t care about the consumer, they care about their money.
And Samsung and everyone else will copy them like they did with removing the chargers lol
The eu will not let that
I loved my LG G5 back in the day. The modular batteries with different features were super cool (especially the camera grip and extended battery). Shame LG doesn't still make em.
Theyll remove all those parts from the phone, the charger, mic, battery, etc and sell them seperatly as an external extention
I had this. They sold it saying modular attachments would be available. There was a DAC for it but it never released in the US
Our old days are coming back 🤩
Apple will most likely make it removable while near impossible to replace at home so they can monopolize on repair fees
I don't think you understood that the law means that all phone batteries need to be *easily* and *clearly* replaceable. Their current phones are what you just described, and the EU wants to change it so that all consumers can do it
@@Thefishyperson I understand that, but knowing how scummy Apple is they’ll find ways to monopolize one way or another. For example maybe the phone’s base model will have proprietary parts while the pro model just works even with third-party.
They will just raise the prices of their batteries to compensate. And we will be back here yet again in a decade pe two, with EU trying to "normalize" replacement batteries cost.
They have already started toserialize parts you'll have to pay a fee to do anything in thier devices 😂
@@Thefishyperson the law also states that IP68 phones are exempt from this law, which iPhones are.
An iphone with a slot for 4 AA's and a battery door taken from a gameboy is something that I never thought I needed.

As a user before, LG G5 was looking good, but eventually it will get fragile over changing the battery. No water proof, chips are also fragile too that i had to visit service centre multiple times.
Having a modern day phone with a removable battery would be a dream. I used to have a spare battery with me at all times just in case.
We came from removable battery to built in and now heading back to removable 🤕
I loved removable battery far more to be honest. Finally we dont need to pay for battery replace service, it was an easy thing back then
This will drastically change the ip ratings of phones.
Cant wait for my phone to be instant fried by a heavy rainstorm
The galaxy s5 had a removable battery a headphone jack AND an sd card slot and was still water resistant🤷♂️😳
Youre the literal definition of an isheep. Believe everything they tell you lol
The s4 active as well btw, reemovable battery and water resistant from literally 2014 and they managed do to it

I reckon that Apple will make the glass still screwed in, but you can easily remove the battery
Removable batteries helps alot in many cases like device getting hang.
All 2027 phone gonna have thicc bezel at the bottom again
Yep. And I hate it.
Imagine dropping your phone and your charging port snaps off and goes flying somewhere
Had that phone drop about 50 times from my hands and some were even on concrete and gravel it held off for about 3 years so unless you have an extra chromosome you are fine
Maybe they should look at Nokia. Their G-series are completely self repairable, you can even order parts straight from Nokia themselves
The g5 was my second phone and was what got me hooked on lg before they stopped manufacturing phones
The cycle starts over again. From the Z-Flip to a removable battery, history is beginning to repeat itself
Honestly if Apple just denied the EU demand, and gets banned in the EU, so many people who already have iPhones or want one in Europe would be mad. It won’t end well.
Goodbye dust and water proofing

Samsung S5 was water resistant and had removable back plus sd card slot and headphone socket too in 2016. Pity they ended up copying Apple. Apple are just ensuring high cost repairs.

Tbh the EU is the only thing keeping apple in check rn
When I ordered mine, it came with second battery and the converter that not only charged the secondary battery, but also use it as a charger for other devices. The only down side is the bottom piece that holds the battery is model specific. Like you couldn't put a sprint one on a T-Mobile phone.
Strange, but not earth shatteringly bad. Can easily get over it.

the EU is becoming to much at this point
Oh no a company can't fuck me sideways with outrageous prices for a simple repair. This is basically how you sound
Apple wouldn't even do shit, they will charge 699$ for a battery replacement
I had that one back in the day, i gave the repair rating 9/10, 3 times change screen, 2 times battery (the plastic in the bottomside of battery very fragile lmao) and the bottom (i replace because the charger become so loose). Still work to this day, my lil sis still use it for watching youtube
i had this phone and when my phone had broken LCD and had to go to a/s center i moved my phone's sim card to lg g5 and then used. one of my favorite phones
Europe rn: 🗿
I think they'll get a removable battery the have it covered with a normal back glass
Loved the G5 when i had mine. Was rather smitten with LG phones at that point in general. Loved they held on to the battery swap longer then other brands. Could buy an extra battery if you didnt get one with the phone, keep it charged separate... and swap when you need a full charge.
I was so happy when phones stopped having the removable back. I remember the days when you could drop your phone with no case and the battery would go bouncing out of it or your friend would prank you by taking your battery. Feel like it’s just going to make phones feel cheap again.
LG rebel 4 had that
Apple gon' make that removable battery a DLC
Imagine having a second battery and an external charger, that'd be such a gamechanger
To be fair even if apple stop selling iPhone physically in EU the consumer would still buy it online or from resellers 📈
Not true, apple doesnt have such a high market share here compared to the us. It would die out quickly. And they wouldnt want to lose the eu market since the customers here tend to spend way way way more money on products. The indian market which is way bigger, is still way less profitable, due to the consumers having no money
The phone that he flipped open to begin with the Fairphone 5. While not in the US market, it's around £700 I believe I last saw. Cheaper but not the cheapest and you get OS updates until 2030-ish is amazing!
The lg g5 can be reloaded like a gun 💀
The EU regulation doesn't say Apple needs to do it like the Fairphone or a removable back. It just means it can't be comically hard to remove the screen / back to replace the battery with glue and shit like it's now.
Easy solution: charge two arms and one leg for an OEM battery made by Apple.
Make some functionalities unusable until the battery is paired to the iPhone by an Apple technician.
Replace the battery : 🚫
Reloading my phone : ✅️
That method of the lg g5 has been around for a while. Theyve been doing it that way for years. Use to have a g2 and g4
In the most nonconsumer friendly way possible. Thats how they'll pull it off.
i am using that phone rn. (i know i know but my other one is getting repaired)
All phones need to take note of that rear fingerprint sensor
The LG G5 method but to take it out, you would need a specific and special screwdriver to take the battery out
i had one of these! it was so nice to be able to swap batteries out when the first one started dying. i really liked my lg phones :(
that's pretty much the ONLY way one could do that feasibly for the average user.
Though I remember the days of removable batteries pretty well. I only ever had replacement packs for two of my phones. one was a Motorola Analog brick (spare pack and multi-place charging stand came with it, heckin' fancy), and my Motorla Atrix (an extended pack to be precise, came with a custom backplate).
for most of the phones, the battery wasn't the only thing wrong with the phone by the time the pack was worn down to levels that annoyed me.
Like the sim ejection method, only bigger
Not saying that I did or that you should to it but space inside the LG G5 without the battery is a neat place to store illegal substances since nobody can figure out how to access it.
Im pretty sure they will be like the back glass is attached to the battery with several magnets to drive up the costs
I want a G5 now, just for that feature alone, as a collectible.
Probably make it where you have to open a special apple gasket that has to be replaced once opened.
I predict that Apple will have like a function in settings that says “remove battery” next to “shut down” and what it will do is shut down the iPhone, then little latches will unlatch the back glass with a rubber seal, to keep its water resistance, it’ll just unlatch when it mostly shut downs, and before you can take the battery out, it’s already shut down
I remember I thought my 50yr old mom how to change the battery on her g5, and she learned very quickly. It was honestly a really great feature
I hope same would happen for laptops i missed the old days where battery block was easily removable it made them really easy the repair and upgrade also removable battery negates the only risk of using tech devices
I had lg g5. It worked for me properly for 5 years.
As someone that have the g5 and used it this phone sucks. That battery door never felt good the gap was enormous and always getting bigger, and i used it with a good Spigen case.
