A drop of food coloring in the water would make it easier to see the water beneath the gas.
Thanks for the review. As a long time subscriber and a recent patreon subscriber, I really appreciate and look forward to your videos. Keep up the good work sir!
Great demo Don, thanks Man!! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Nice to know! Happy New Years Dony!
A nice comparison. Depending on what your problems is, this test can help you decide which product to buy!!!
Great demo Donny
Ill stick to my startron for stab my fuel for winter. Never let me down.
Me either man. I have had great luck with it. Everytime I fill my gas container jug too at station I’ll add star tron
Once again, a informative-unbiased review for us all to consider. Thanks again Don. 👍🏼🇨🇦
Thank you for your review. I do have 1 observation about the vid. It looked to me like you shook the k100 better and had more headroom for mixing than the Star Tron.

Star-Tron does not say it takes water out of fuel or makes it burn ,,K 100 DOES say it makes water burn ,,so not a good test at all !!! Star-Tron is a Fuel Stabilizer !!
How does either one do against the green carb sludge (cleaning or preventing) from ethanol?
Thank you for sharing. My son is a mechanic so I have shared this video with him. 😎🇨🇦❄️
Thank yoiu for doing this experiment. I"ve been using it. I'd like to try the K100.
Can you put startron and k100 at same time in fuel?
StarTron *does* claim to disperse water in fuel in their videos on Amazon so that claim is bogus, thanks Don.
Great job. I’m thinking of switching to the K100... Thanks
That’s what I use when I winterize my bike.
Awesome. So going to be using K-1 the spring and all my mowers
How does ISO HEET red compare in the same test?
What does the letter designation refer to on k100? Thanks.
I’ve been using Star-tron for several years, no complaints.
so that makes it good?
@@rk22cc no issues
That doesn't mean it does anything...
Hi Don, thanks for it. If you can get a link to buy in Canada, I'm in Québec, there's no stores to get it n Amazon really pricy..
Can different additives be combined for the better of both worlds?
What water did you use? If it was anything but distilled via reverse osmosis, then the chemistry would be WAY off from the water that would actually end up in a fuel system.
Well done , I will try the k100
STP gas stabilizer with water remover ( the blue one ) vs K100???
How much water is in the average vehicle gas tank ?
Why are there no video reviews for star tron enzyme fuel TANK cleaner?
What is the difference between fuel TANK and fuel system cleaners/additives?
And how many treatments do I need of the fuel TANK cleaner?
Do I do 3 or 4 tanks from full to empty and will I get a clogged fuel filter leaving me stranded???
If so, should I buy 3 or 4 extra fuel filters to keep in my truck for a just in case moment?
I wonder if you could use food coloring in the water to show it more clearly and how the K100 would look after dissolving(?) it into the fuel.
RichE San Diego, CA
Thanks Don. Would you put the K100 in the gas can when you buy gas, or in the gas tank of what ever your are running? Plus, what is the better stabilizer to use when you put the snowblower or lawn rower away for the season? Thanks for sharing.
I only use it when storing my equipment in the off season. You can however add it to your gas can if you want. I also add some k100 to all equipment that leaves the shop. it's also a stabilizer as well
You should at least use some kind of stabilizer everytime you put gas in a gas can.... that's my opinion.
I use STP with water remover in it it's the blue one. Then if the equipment sits a while or at end of season and you forget....it's stabilized. Try to use gas without ethanol if you can get it. Where I live they say high test is less likely to have it. Shell high test says no ethanol on the pump.
Cool 😎 thanks man. I ordered a case of 12 32oz K100 for my 2019 CB1000-R 👍
Will these products help prevent the problems with ethanol and clogging of small engine carbs?
yes
Donny this is a very helpful video The mixture to gasoline on the bottle is vague. How much do you think I would need for 5 gallons of gas? Thank you for putting this video together...Anthony
for long term storage like in a boat I would put in the whole bottle. not so long term just half the bottle
Thank you for your reply. Your the man...Anthony
good to know great content
Thank you for the video Don. I’ve watched similar videos and they all including yours add far to much product which doesn’t represent a vehicles fuel tank to scale. Five drops in the glass jar that size is a fair comparison to scale. Not sure of the amount of product to be used to keep things to scale. Looking forward to your next video. I’ve learnt so much from you. Cheers mate. 🇦🇺
the funny thing is that nobody made k100 videos until i did
Thank you for your reply Don. We all appreciate your unbiased video content. Can’t find anyone selling K100 hear in Australia. Overseas shipping costs make it too expensive. I would be interested to know the formula. Merry Christmas to you and your family. 🎄
@@tyroneclarke1666 Well a lot of it is proprietary, but for all these additives the vendors have to publish Material Safety Data Sheets which include the ingredients, toxicities, antidotes, handling requirements and lots of useful information.
You can Google K100 safety data sheet and find some of the ingredients.
For K100 the MSDS lists Ethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether 30-45%, n-Butyl Alcohol 30-40%, Primary Alkyl Alcohol (proprietary) 15 -20%, Cyclic Secondary Amine (proprietary) 5-10% and Alkenoic acid (proprietary) 3-7%.
For example, primary alkyl alcohols include among many others, methanol, ethanol and butanol, but not isopropyl. The vendor isn't telling which. Let's hope it's not ethanol!
Thanks donyboy73.
I use to use stabil (pink) stabilizer than moved to star tron. For every fill up of gas in my container I throw some star tron in and mix it together. Before the end of each season, for my snowblower, I throw an additional amount inside my fuel container in both my Honda and ariens and let it run for few minutes than turn the fuel shutoff and let it die on its own with a full amount of fuel in each. Should I switch over to this other fuel stabilizer donyboy73?
Thanks Zach
Does the K products have alcohol in it any alcohol will separate water so you could do just regular oil rubbing alcohol and do the same thing
no it doesn't
Hi What are your views on Sea Fome products.?
seafoam does not control moisture like k100
It's interesting to look at the MSDS for these products, to find out what is in them, and read about what those chemicals are used for individually, in industry.
For example, I find that the 2 top ingredients in K100 are:
Ethylene glycol monobutyl ether (about 40%) is a surfactant used in oil spill dispersants, and a solvent and emulsifier.
n-butyl alcohol (about 30%) is a pretty good solvent and a Bee Alarm Pheromone. ?? Better watch it with that one Dony!
It's the EGBE that disperses the water. Ethanol Shield is almost 100% EGBE.
I don't think water in the gas is a problem today. Many many years ago, we used to put 8 oz of dry gas in a 20-plus gallon tank to keep the gas line from freezing. That is a small amount of alcohol in the gas when compared to today's gas which is up to 10% ethanol. My experience with small engines has been the gasoline gets stale. I cannot speak for K100, but startron does a great job preventing that from happening as well as revitalizing old gas.
Water is a huge issue when it comes to temp. change and condensate from metal tanks on small engines that are not full. Also negligence on the part of some home owners leaving there cans outside and exposed.I think thats the real reason this stuff was created, and ETHANOL fuels raise hell on carbs.
I'm almost out of stabil. When its done, I'm going to pick up some K100. The only problem with K100 down here in New Jersey, is its not as common on the shelf like stabil, so I'll order it online. Anyone from Jersey know where this stuff is commonly sold on the shelf?
Fearless I found it at an RV place in Lancaster PA. Try some boating places as they experience storage issues with engines. Thanks
It would be interesting to see them left for maybe 6 months, so we can see which one is actually the best stabilizer. I don't know if that would be long enough to see the fuel start to break down, oxidize, get gummy/varnish-like, etc? Probably need to use bigger jars with more air in the top.
THAT TEST WAS DONE BY TARYL STARTRON CREATED A JELL
Thanks
Does the K100 do any thing for cleaning the fuel system or fuel stabilization?
I wonder too, and according to K100 it does. It's interesting that they make both K100-G and K100-MG, where the K100-MG is for long term storage. I think the labeling must be different in Canada than in the US. Because on Dony's bottle there is an S+ where there should be an MG. I think his is MG because the labeling is red and yellow, which is the MG. The regular "G" stuff has blue and yellow labeling.
Testing if it cleaned your fuel system would make a great video.
Why don't you try freezing both those bottles overnight and see if ice forms in either. Isn't this what we are trying to avoid which is gas line freeze up?
I was told by a co-worker that he brought his poor running chainsaw to a small engine shop and the tech would put drops of startron through the carb while running it to clean the carb. Do you think it will work ? Thanks for the good informative videos
Probably. But I would also check the spark arrestor screen for blockage.
Is K100 good for long term storage( 1-2 yrs) in gas cans??
yes, works good
I have used star tron for ever and haven’t had any issues, I buy non ethanol fuel at shell , there 91 octain and up has no ethanol apparently.
How is that different than if you hadn't used star-tron?
thanks Dony ...
greetings from Ontario, not much snow here
I did the same test with E10 gasoline and did not get the same results you did. I realized you did not use E10 gasoline. Why? It looks like K100 does not mix with E10 gasoline as it phase separates with the water and ethanol.
Do you remember another product to help with water and thawing was HEET ?
Will k100 revitalize old fuel left in equipment? Thanks
To some degree but if it's really old best to dump it and clean out the system.
Star tron will.
That k100 looks like it works great. Do they have one for diesel? I have a 94.5 powerstroke that sits most of the winter and I’m worried about condensation building up in the tanks
They do. It's K100-D, or, for long term storage it is K100-MD. Interesting that they have a different one for long term storage.
yes there is one for diesel
I always use more than the labels suggest
I used startron and my carb on my dirtbike still clogged up
What about methol hydrate it is a lot cheaper than everything else you have tested does it work?
Thanks Don.Happy twenty nineteen.
Don is from Canada so the year is 4332. New year blessings.
Nice K100
Still love star tron!
You put in too much Startron. It's didn't shake up as well because the Startron was to full.
problem is that star tron says to let it sit in t he gasoline for 24 hours, and i didn't see you do that. it is supposed to eat or digest some of the deposits, that is a main problem with old stale gas sitting in a car for months. the enzymes do it.
You kind of messed this test up by the amount of product you added.
Also, products that "remove" water typically contain alcohol, sick might be fine for burying through the tank, but not so much as a stabilizer for storage.
Been using star tron for years now as a stabilizer and it seems to do a good job.
I thought star tron works by running the engine?
Then again, you can buy virtually pure isopropyl alcohol from amazon, a gallon is $23 (including shipping). Dry gas, which does the same as the K100 (solvitizes(?) the water so it'll go through with gasoline to engine, is essentially this alcohol. Dry Gas is a trademark, however.
RichE San Diego, CA
Gogle Plus Sucks the isopropyl alcohol mixes with the water and seems to burn as an alcohol/water fuel separate from the gas whereas the k100 mixes with the water and gas and that mixture becomes the fuel.
Thanks Don for this unbiased review. Its funny, but Actually Startron makes this claim at its website, "Helps prevent phase separation by dispersing water throughout fuel as submicron-sized droplets that are safely eliminated while the engine operates
." I didn't see any "submicron" droplets in your test so that leaves me questioning the product claim for sure.. Still, like many others here, I have used Startron for years and have experienced no gas related issues on equipment I have either owned or worked on for others. Conclusion: both products are good.
So... It doesn't do anything, but the product is good??
Back in the day, we bought methyl hydrate (wood alcohol) and added it to our gas tanks on cars to make the water go through the engine without freezing. Today's gasoline does not seem to suffer from the same problem. As I understand it, the methyl hydrate absorbed the water and they went through the engine together. How about a comparison with your K100 vs. methyl hydrate?
Bruce Symington
I was wondering the same thing.
The k-100 Is probably the same methyl hydrate.
I read the MSDS on K100 and there is a few ingredients in it.
That would be a good comparison though.
Check out K100 MSDS for ingredients
Very good practical test Dony. It appears that you added 0.5ml of water to about 100ml of gasoline, which comes to 5% by volume. Is that an expected "real world" condition? Common sense says it probably could be in the float bowl of a carburetor. Then you add I estimate 20ml of the additive, corresponding to 20/120 or ~17% by volume. That is a LOT! So if you had a 3 liter tank on your snow blower, you'd have to add 510ml of product to get the same result. Is that realistic? Maybe so, especially if one was putting it away for the season.
Oops: 0.5ml per 100ml gas is 0.5%, not 5%. Arithmetic was never my strong point..... The rest of my comment is unchanged though.
video based on viewer requests as shown in vid description. at least the k100 absorbed the water. Star tron did not even slightly do it. You can always do your own tests
Actually I did do my own tests after watching your video. I am a Chemist, so I was able to get similar results to the K100 by using tailored surfactants and emulsifiers.
In the interests of full disclosure, I started and own a fuel additive business. Decalin Chemicals LLC
Kleen-flo gas line anti-freeze removes water. The k100 also removes water and is an octane boost of 2. So 87 is now 89
So I take it you have actually tested it. Or are you just talking out your arm pit?
Star Tron Enzyme Treatment...It depends how much water is in your fuel..Only company that claims Encapulation " ST surrounds water molecules like a bubble" Then burns it through the power stroke..ICPE 4 stroke...Drain plugs on gas tanks best modification to determine...
maybe next HEET vs K100?
I was just going to ask the same thing because that's what I've been putting in my vehicles for years I put a bottle of heet in the gas tanks of my vehicles like once a year around winter time when I don't want moisture in my system and as far as I know it's always worked fine I've never tried this K100 stuff.
yep, that's the one I like to see, k-100 works but too expensive and hard to find!
I'm guessing we won't see that request.
Red bottle iso-HEET is 99% isopropyl alcohol and is less than $2 here Wal-Mart in Florida
@@europana7 tell that to donyboy, but he gets better deals on k-100 he advertizes.
> Merci !
If the Star-Tron does not claim to remove water, what is the point of this test ? A good test, that i am sure that everybody has seen, that has worked on engines is, What fuel additive will slow down or prevent fuel lines from breaking down ??????? By the way, STARTRON for over 20 years, no complaints BUT ONE, fuel lines still breaking down, on small engines. That is using ethanol resistant lines.
I'm not trying to knock over any valid questions, but some can be answered by conducting similar tests for themselves.
Who wants to see a Seafoam vs K100 match?????
You put in to much star tron it couldn't mix with the water. With the k100 you put less in so it could mix better in the shake up.
i think i get faster starts like bottle says.
Great question by Fordman7575
yes it cleans and stabilizes
Donyboy, your the best. Love your videos. Can’t tell you how much they help me keeping my small engines working and saves me money doing my own maintenance. Keep up the great work.
To be fair Star Tron claims to prevent phase separation not reverse it
To be fair, Star tron claims it rejuvenates old gas.
Star-Tron does not claim to eliminate water, K100 does. You are comparing apples to oranges.
You vigorously shook the k100 but not the other
Project farm does a video and gets very different results than you. You should check it out.
yes but he uses very different amounts of water
Donnie I think you're the small engine guide but come on you're searching for videos likes. This is been beat to death about K100. It's not just water that each of these present themselves on curing but the act of stopping phase separation and raising octane points and Reviving old fuel is one thing that I like about K100. I like star-tron also but it just has to be mixed in your can before you pour it into your snow blower or lawn mower. This came from the Marine industry because of the open venting in the inboard outboard motors gas tank. Of course you can't shake your boats gas tank but it will help another ways to keep your fuel fresh.
did u read video description?
WHY BE GENEROUS BE REAL!!
Too many camera cuts to seem like an honest test
try it yourself
Why would you compare one product that claims to remove water with another product that doesn't claim to remove water.
There are other products that also claim to remove water so why not use one of them.
If you understand language spoken in intro you would know it was based on viewer questions
You sure K100 company did not buy you a new Lamborghini ? lol
Your comparing apples wtih oranges, so test does not mean much except k-100 did what it is supposed to!
read video description first
Why would you even try to test a product to see if it does something it was not intended to do?
@@kkovler1 read video description first
kkovler as a follower of the good Dony I can tell you these comparison videos are done at the request of fellow followers. You know...everyday folks who don’t necessarily use products according to their intended use. See his other videos and read the comments 👍🏻
The additive fuel mix is well over the recommended amounts. There is no additive that works. The only other option is Aspen fuel if you can afford it. That works
Dis you even watch the video? Because if you did why did you say there is no additive that works?
@@billbog25I say that because I have wasted my money trying various ones. If you read the labels there is always a get out clause. Not 100%. So why put that in there? Because we have no comeback if it fails, which it will do. And btw, it's easy and cost nothing to take ethanol out of the fuel
that was 6 drops lol
All the fuel treatment stuff is nothing but snake oil. The stuff does nothing. Run no ethanol fuel is the best thing you can do.
Why you pushing not being sponsored? I saw another video by Teryl and his tests seem more real world than yours. Who adds that much ratio of product?. And real time experiment than these short tests would be more feasible.
I say I'm not sponsored and I keep it that way for certain products because viewers thought I was sponsored and therefore recommending the product because of that
None of them! Based on another youtube channel Project farm
WHY DONE YOU MEASURE INSTEAD OF POUR VERY INCONSISTENT GO WATCH PROJECT FAM AND LEARN HOW TO TEST.
You shook the K 100 more vigorously and then you let it sit a while and then you showed us the K100 bottle again but you did not do that with the Star tron what the Fuck?
K100 IS THE BEST
Nowhere near enough water for the test. We can't see a thing.
Would have been better to only use the prescribed amount of additive
