I only use it when storing my equipment in the off season. You can however add it to your gas can if you want. I also add some k100 to all equipment that leaves the shop. it's also a stabilizer as well

    • @billlovett4256
      @billlovett4256 Před 5 lety

You should at least use some kind of stabilizer everytime you put gas in a gas can.... that's my opinion.
I use STP with water remover in it it's the blue one. Then if the equipment sits a while or at end of season and you forget....it's stabilized. Try to use gas without ethanol if you can get it. Where I live they say high test is less likely to have it. Shell high test says no ethanol on the pump.

@@tyroneclarke1666 Well a lot of it is proprietary, but for all these additives the vendors have to publish Material Safety Data Sheets which include the ingredients, toxicities, antidotes, handling requirements and lots of useful information.
You can Google K100 safety data sheet and find some of the ingredients.
For K100 the MSDS lists Ethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether 30-45%, n-Butyl Alcohol 30-40%, Primary Alkyl Alcohol (proprietary) 15 -20%, Cyclic Secondary Amine (proprietary) 5-10% and Alkenoic acid (proprietary) 3-7%.
For example, primary alkyl alcohols include among many others, methanol, ethanol and butanol, but not isopropyl. The vendor isn't telling which. Let's hope it's not ethanol!

It's interesting to look at the MSDS for these products, to find out what is in them, and read about what those chemicals are used for individually, in industry.
For example, I find that the 2 top ingredients in K100 are:
Ethylene glycol monobutyl ether (about 40%) is a surfactant used in oil spill dispersants, and a solvent and emulsifier.
n-butyl alcohol (about 30%) is a pretty good solvent and a Bee Alarm Pheromone. ?? Better watch it with that one Dony!

I don't think water in the gas is a problem today. Many many years ago, we used to put 8 oz of dry gas in a 20-plus gallon tank to keep the gas line from freezing. That is a small amount of alcohol in the gas when compared to today's gas which is up to 10% ethanol. My experience with small engines has been the gasoline gets stale. I cannot speak for K100, but startron does a great job preventing that from happening as well as revitalizing old gas.

I wonder too, and according to K100 it does. It's interesting that they make both K100-G and K100-MG, where the K100-MG is for long term storage. I think the labeling must be different in Canada than in the US. Because on Dony's bottle there is an S+ where there should be an MG. I think his is MG because the labeling is red and yellow, which is the MG. The regular "G" stuff has blue and yellow labeling.

Then again, you can buy virtually pure isopropyl alcohol from amazon, a gallon is $23 (including shipping). Dry gas, which does the same as the K100 (solvitizes(?) the water so it'll go through with gasoline to engine, is essentially this alcohol. Dry Gas is a trademark, however.

Thanks Don for this unbiased review. Its funny, but Actually Startron makes this claim at its website, "Helps prevent phase separation by dispersing water throughout fuel as submicron-sized droplets that are safely eliminated while the engine operates
." I didn't see any "submicron" droplets in your test so that leaves me questioning the product claim for sure.. Still, like many others here, I have used Startron for years and have experienced no gas related issues on equipment I have either owned or worked on for others. Conclusion: both products are good.

Back in the day, we bought methyl hydrate (wood alcohol) and added it to our gas tanks on cars to make the water go through the engine without freezing. Today's gasoline does not seem to suffer from the same problem. As I understand it, the methyl hydrate absorbed the water and they went through the engine together. How about a comparison with your K100 vs. methyl hydrate?

Very good practical test Dony. It appears that you added 0.5ml of water to about 100ml of gasoline, which comes to 5% by volume. Is that an expected "real world" condition? Common sense says it probably could be in the float bowl of a carburetor. Then you add I estimate 20ml of the additive, corresponding to 20/120 or ~17% by volume. That is a LOT! So if you had a 3 liter tank on your snow blower, you'd have to add 510ml of product to get the same result. Is that realistic? Maybe so, especially if one was putting it away for the season.

Kleen-flo gas line anti-freeze removes water. The k100 also removes water and is an octane boost of 2. So 87 is now 89

> Merci !

If the Star-Tron does not claim to remove water, what is the point of this test ? A good test, that i am sure that everybody has seen, that has worked on engines is, What fuel additive will slow down or prevent fuel lines from breaking down ??????? By the way, STARTRON for over 20 years, no complaints BUT ONE, fuel lines still breaking down, on small engines. That is using ethanol resistant lines.

Donnie I think you're the small engine guide but come on you're searching for videos likes. This is been beat to death about K100. It's not just water that each of these present themselves on curing but the act of stopping phase separation and raising octane points and Reviving old fuel is one thing that I like about K100. I like star-tron also but it just has to be mixed in your can before you pour it into your snow blower or lawn mower. This came from the Marine industry because of the open venting in the inboard outboard motors gas tank. Of course you can't shake your boats gas tank but it will help another ways to keep your fuel fresh.
