His dad turned to him and said "that's cleared for painting now, and please... for the love of God... use a tissue like everyone else".

    Ok, stealing your 4 year old daughter's teddy bears "because she didn't notice" is straight up abuse. You wanna know why she didn't notice? She's 4. What she will have instead is a lack of ability to own anything, because there's no point because things just keep disappearing. From personal experience, that's an awful fucking thing to do to a child.

    • @freespirit343
      @freespirit343 Před 2 lety +39

      It is. I have people very close to me whose parents used to do that, and now they're crippled by the idea of buying anything that's not immediately utilitarian because they have a deep-seated belief that the object will just disappear, because their parents threw everything they ever loved away. Children do not have the concept of object permanence (look it up); that takes years to develop, and key to the whole process is having reliable, familiar, and constant surroundings, most helpfully, with an object(s) that have emotional grounding; for instance, a favoured teddy bear. Teddies especially have an important role to play, because they are comfort objects. Children anthropomorphize them, "befriend" them, and often keep them well into adulthood. I don't know a single adult friend who hasn't kept their childhood comfort objects, because it has such strong emotional relevance. Not allowing a child to develop that "because it was dirty" is literally disgusting behaviour, not to mention the peak of selfishness. If you're not prepared to be at least a little bit selfless, you have no business becoming a parent.

      I was thinking the same thing with the child's toys, my fiancé's mom would do the same thing and just throw his toys out when he was young, when he got older she'd throw out his books, clothes, school supplies, important paperwork just because she thought he wasn't using them. Gave him a weird sense of personal space and self doubt in a lot of different aspects of his life that he's getting help for now but not allowing people autonomy over their items and self is really destructive.

I also had a mum who cleans RELENTLESSLY and I struggle with throwing things away etc and cleaning. 1) because she would always do it for me so I don’t know how to and 2) because I see it as some form of rebellion? Or perhaps it brings me comfort to keep the mess and clutter. Note: I am no way as bad as any of these people but watching this show actually helps me in remembering how to do it all and what happens if I don’t stay on top of it lol

      She 100% is going to make her daughter a hoarder because her daughter will have an unhealthy attachment to belongings when she is older because of this. I know my daughter has way too many teddies but I encourage and ask her to consider donating so that when she does, she gets positive words and feels she is actually in control so hopefully, she will see when she is older, you don't need to have 1000s of possessions.

I have worked in bathrooms with just ”normal” grime that took me almost a full day to get done. Every few weeks, I do a clothes donation bag (2 kids, one is a pre teen so we go through clothes all the time), she gives up clothes so easily, she gives up old toys she is too old for, she gives up DVDs, but she will not give up the teddies, YET. I know she will in the future and even if she hasn't seen the teddy in a year, it will still be there so I know I will get her to do it healthily in the future. Taking them without the child having a choice is just plain mean.

    Leslie is just lazy. I’m sick of hearing people use health reasons for not cleaning. Yes if you can’t walk it’s different, but Leslie was just plain lazy. That kitchen floor was beyond disgusting. No excuse for leaving stuff on the floor. To say the cooker and floor can just stay dirty says it all really. Victoria has every reason to be outraged and brutal and she’s completely right and Leslie needed to hear it.

      yeah like if she can still walk there’s no reason for her to be discarding used cigarettes all over the floor…she’s just using her health issues as a reason to not clean

    I have mild OCD, although I seem to be a little worse since I’ve gotten older, but the one lady who wants her grandkids over, her house is disgusting. I will never understand how people could live like that, let alone laugh about it.

      Same! And aside from the teddy bear ordeal, Louise seems sweet. I wish she was in more episodes. Her and Tim were both super kind to each other

    Is it weird that my mum showed me this and said ‘maybe you should go and do this. It’ll help loads of people’- if I’m being honest I think I’d probably die inside 🥲

      I have mild OCD, not as bad as the people on this show, but I wouldn’t be able to be in those homes, cleaning all that disgusting mess. I give them a lot of credit. I have in the past helped people clean when the mess has gotten out of hand, but the people on this show are over the top
