Paulo Coelho dava pitacos nas músicas do Raul. Cresceu à sombra dele e ganhou fama como escritor medíocre de manuais de auto-ajuda. Raul compunha suas músicas na sua totalidade. Às vezes era generoso, como próprio Paulo já admitiu, e dava parceria musical se o cara colocasse uma vírgula na composição, como foi o caso da música "Caroço de manga", em que ele deu co-autoria ao Coelho sem ele ter feito nada.

Uma espécie de contradição existencial que jamais será compreensível pela cognição dos homens de nosso tempo. Frank, ao meu ver, duas outras letras magníficas e parte de obras lindíssimas são: GENI (Chico Buarque) e AQUARELA (Toquinho).
A primeira nos remete a fragilidade da moral social e a necessidade desta em ostentar uma pseudo moral com vistas a preservação de interesses materiais.
A segunda descreve o comportamento do ser humano desde sua tenra idade, quando lá é capaz de fazer do mundo o seu quintal, até chegar ao iminente colapso da vida, quando se dá conta que não é o maquinista mas sim um simples passageiro no trem da vida.

Well, Raul wasn't a hippie - he actually mocked them in some songs - but he was an anarchist and very spiritualiistic but not religous in any way. He has lots of songs with mystical lyrics, most of them inspired or written along with the writter Paulo Coelho ("The Alchimist) and this is the most famous one. Imagine Bob Dylan being anarchist, kinda crazy, mystical and going far beyond folk and blues, This is Raul.
He also made a version in English of this song (I am), a version of another very famous and mystical song that I would strongly Recomend called "Trem das Sete" (Morning Train) and other great songs originaly in English as "How couuld I know" and the gorgeous "Sunseed" which is not famous but is juist beautifil, have a listen and you won't regret. ;).
This lyrics is the part of Bhagavad Gita when Arjuna is going to fight in a battle and his opponents are his relatives of other cities. The time stops around and Arjuna doesn't understand why and he discusses with God (Shiva) questioning why it should be this way. Raul Seixas quotes part of Shiva's discourse mingled with actual themes. It's simply fantastic!

I was very happy that even if you did not understand our Portuguese language, you managed to extract the greatest essence of Raul Seixas. Raul was one of the greatest songs we had in Brazilian music. He was a great poet, many called him crazy because of his music. Many people to this day enjoy listening to Raul, especially the older ones. We lost Raul Seixas when he was 44 in 1989. Raul was a victim of acute pancreatitis due to alcoholism.
