    I grew up playing HE games, and the music was BY FAR one of my favorite things about them. It’s really devastating to see this project never seeing the light of day :( it would have been beautiful for fans. Tim, I hope you’re doing well and doing great things! And hopefully this idea you had somehow lives on in some other way! Thank you for all you hard work, from one HE fan to another

I was wondering whether Travels Through Time and Water Worries are still being restored by you and the Soule brothers. I haven't been successful in trying to get in touch with them myself. I find it kind of darkly funny how they're all talking about what a happy and positive person Jason is and then one of the first things he talks about is the death of his grandmother. Definitely unfortunate that that had to happen, though. Most of my exposure to the HE games in my childhood was through pirate Russian translations, so I didn't hear Jason's voice much, but I still appreciate the part they all played in my childhood.

    But, Also The Belgian game company called Transposia was founded in 1994 and then also that Humongous Entertainment wants to releasing their games in foreign countries outisde North America. Then, The Belgian company Transposia was publishing Dutch-language interactive games and educational games. The first Humongous game that was dubbed in Dutch was Freddi Fish and the Case of the Missing Kelp Seeds and then also Putt-Putt Saves The Zoo. Putt-Putt was also voiced by an young boy and then by an woman in the Dutch dub. Putt-Putt's Dutch voice actor is Jeroen Struys and then Wanda Joosten. But, In the end credits of the Dutch version of Putt-Putt Travels Through Time his dutch voice actor was credited as Jeroen Struyf. His Dutch voice actor's surname was spelled with an letter ''f'' instead of the letter ''s'' in the end credits of the Dutch version of Putt-Putt Travels Through Time.

      @@lookforcurator hello!! I wasn't sure if I was gonna get a response XD so its cool to hear from you. Well first I just want to say thank you sooo much for ur effort in this. I truly wish as well that it could have worked out in the end. As someone who loves these games and great music (to the point of doing music production and engineering ) seeing the amount of care u and the people who worked with you put into this project is amazing!!
      So one of my questions was what music where u able to salvage from working on this project? I was always curious if it was more music than just from the initial 4 games you used in the Kickstarter campaign. I know you can't share any of the music and understandably so. But it would be intriguing to know what still exists. But, it's understandable if you can't talk much about it.
      (Sorry if this is a bit long 😅)
      But thank you for ur time all the same!!

    • @lookforcurator
      @lookforcurator  Před 4 lety +2

      Super Nova1486
      Those four titles, Putt-Putt: Pep’s Birthday Surprise and Putt-Putt Goes to the Moon (George’s complete catalog) are the only albums we finished, but we were well on our way with others: the Soule brothers’ contributions, Tom McMail’s work, and Pajama Sam 4.
      The first Pajama Sam and the first SPY Fox were probably the ones I was most excited to work on.
      Never say never. This project seems to continue to be making ripples. I wouldn’t be surprised if the soundtracks are eventually released, but it could be another decade for all I know.
      Thanks for your support.

      @@lookforcurator :o ah ok. Thank you for the interesting information its cool to know that some more music was found besides those 4 soundtracks (even if they weren't complete) ! I can understand why you where excited to do pajama sam 1 and spy fox 1. Especially pajama sam 1(the mines had some of my favorite music!! XD). I would probably consider it one of my favorite soundtracks if it wasn't beat by pajama sam 3's soundtrack XD.
      Very true that this project definitely has had an impact! I hope to someday see the release of the soundtracks too!

      @@lookforcurator I thought we could chat a little about the soundtracks from these Freddi Fish, Pajama Sam, etc. games. I was planning on trying to contact one of the composers because I would really like to hear the uncompressed music score, but it seems like you have already gone through quite some effort to get those. I don't know about everything that has happened. I did see some Twitter posts from Humongous saying they weren't supporting a certain campaign, but maybe it was another one. Idk. I did see in some of your videos that you already have at least snippets of some songs in their clean form. So, yea, could you tell me more about all this stuff? Are you still after the original masters? Is contacting the holders of the publishing rights working out? Is there anything you have and can share yet? How's the process? :)

    • @lookforcurator
      @lookforcurator  Před 4 lety +3

      @@WILFORDCLUX I worked for several years with the current owners of Humongous and nearly every composer who produced music for Humongous games to recover music masters and share them with the world. The IP owners were only half-interested and eventually shut down the Kickstarter to publish vinyl and CDs.
      The effort cost tens of thousands of dollars. I have many masters and may still find a way to share them. For the moment this channel is done.

    • @WILFORDCLUX
      @WILFORDCLUX Před 4 lety +2

      @@lookforcurator Oh, I see. Hm, why does the effort cost so much though? Isn't it just a matter of asking the owner of the publishing rights to give permission to the composers to share their original uncompressed master tracks?
      I guess publishing them on actual CDs would cost a lot of money, but it doesn't seem necessary to me to do that anyway. You could put them on SoundCloud or Spotify/Deezer.

    • @lookforcurator
      @lookforcurator  Před 4 lety +8

      @@WILFORDCLUX The music was never meant to be published as an album, so creating an album takes time and money.
      For instance, all of Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo's music was on twelve hours of ADAT tapes. Those tapes need to be found, recovered, and digitized. This takes time, effort, and money. (Do you find the tapes and have them shipped to yourself? Buy a tape deck in order to digitize them? Or do you pay someone else to do it who knows how?) Anyone who helps me needs to be paid. If the composer himself is going to do it, he can't just take time off of work to do this for free; he needs to be paid, ESPECIALLY if there's no guarantee we can sell the music later because the IP owners won't allow it. He and his family need to eat and none of these people are rich, including me.
      So then we have the digitized ADAT tapes. Who knows exactly what's on them? The music was recorded 25 years ago. On an ADAT tape, there are no tracks; there's just one, long, 12-hour sound that has to be spliced, sorted, and identified. This is done by comparing it with handwritten notes (which may or may not be reliable) from the composer which he had to find and scan (another expense) and send to me. Hundreds of pages to sort through and read in order to see what song I might be listening to, what it's called, and where all the audio is for it.
      Then there's a bunch of music that never made it into the game. What do we do with that? It has to be sorted out from the game's soundtrack, which also needs to be identified by playing the game thousands of times and understanding exactly where everything was placed. These two versions of a song, though extremely similar, must be compared: was it this one, or this one, that I'm hearing in the game?
      Plenty of the music isn't even mixed! The only final version produced is the hissy mono one that you hear in the game. We have the instruments for that, though; it just needs to be re-mixed down to stereo. This would normally cost $1,000+, but maybe the composer is willing to do it for a good deal, something like $50/song. That's still hundreds of dollars.
      Do you want any art? A nice album cover? If this is going to be an official product-which I thought it was going to be, for years-it should have art that attracts listeners, so hopefully you make back some of your investment. Well guess what? That's hundreds of dollars per cover, at the very least. Close to one grand, really, for something fitting how momentous it is to release this music for the first time.
      Finally, what about marketing? If the product is going to make money-and hopefully it will, so you won't just be out everything you've already spent-you'll want to do some marketing to let people know the product is out there. This probably takes time (maybe to take time off from work to do this, which costs you money), and it probably costs actual money, to pay for ad space, special collaborations with other artists, etc.
      I'm trying to say: it's not like the music is just a stack of named MP3s in a composer's "Putt-Putt" folder on their desktop. If that was the case, this probably would have been done a long time ago.
