Although Hank Williams never reached the age of 30, he left a long legacy of amazing songs that have been covered by hundreds of artists through the decades following his death.
Thanks for this priceless video. It's short yet captures the essence of this truly amazing singer and song writer whose contribution to Country music will last for ever.
After the divorce of my wife of 22 years I ended up depressed and homeless and hiked around a bit and remember hiking through the southside of Montgomery late at night on the way back to mobile to see my kids singing i'm so lonesome I could cry while hiking down I-65/the hank Williams highway.
I'm almost 36 years old and I will be a Hank Williams fan thanks to my father. Hank is by far one of if not the best Country Musician of the 20th Century, at least in my opinion.
His contribution to country music is timeless. It is no wonder he is referred to as the hillbilly Shakespeare. Generations from now he will still be listened and appreciated to by many.
French mathematician Evariste Galois died at the age of 20. His known work is approximately 60 pages in length. But like Mr. Williams, he left an indelible mark in his Chosen Field. May both of these men Rest in Peace.
hankwilliamsfan1986 that's how I feel also he should be dubbed the King of Country what about favorite songs about he is my bucket's got a hole in it if you've ever heard it you need to check it out
He also had a congenital heart condition. The choral hydrate they gave him is not good for heart conditions. That and he wasn't taking his pain meds properly mixed and killed him, along with his drinking problem. Poor fella. He missed his kids growing up, grandchildren and so many other things.
Many factors caused his death, not just 1...Alcoholism, substance abuse, smoking, very standard for his time. Also modern medicine we take for granted today wasn't so apparent in his time yet.
I like him most in his darker songs, that was the real Hank, "Angel of Death", "I'm so lonesome I could cry", "Someday you'll call my name", "Lonesome whistle", "Cheating heart". He lived out his darker side as "Luke the Drifter" too.
Drug and alcohol problems make people look older than they are. Nicole Bobek the figure skater took meth and it cause her to look older than she is also.
Very important in music history, Hank Williams was the original rebel outlaw. There will never be another. His songs are so iconic they have become part of American culture. He is an American Icon no doubt.
The last place Hank got a haircut was in Fort Payne, Alabama when he was on his way to his last concert in West Virginia that ended up being cancelled. The man who cut his hair was also the man who use to cut my hair for years. I never knew this until he passed away. He never talked about it. If I had known it, I would have had a million questions. Apparently, Hank stopped in Fort Payne for a short time period of time on his way to his concert while traveling down Highway 11, which is, the old highway that runs almost completely through the state. It is rumored that the liquor he had with him when he died was purchased in Fort Payne, which was a dry county until about 10 years ago. Back in those days, if someone wanted alcohol, they would get it from the local cab drivers in the area. His daughter comes through and visits Fort Payne during the anniversary of his passing for an event called the "Last Ride." The last ride is a commemorative event that traces the route Hank took on that fateful journey. It makes me so happy that people still celebrate his music and legacy. He was truly a celestial gift to the music world. Roll Tide and Semper Fi!
Hank was my Granddaddy's nephew. Grandaddy's brother, JC, was married to Hank's momma. Oh the stories I could tell (by virtue of Granddaddy), and some of them are probably true!
Absolutely the King of country music. Still loving his music, both of my 19, 16 year old boys love to listen to him and the older country music. That's pretty kewl in my book. Thanks for having put this out for us. God Bless
Saw Hank on the Kate Smith show when I was 12. Loved him ever since and know all his songs by heart. Also Know every part played by the Drifting Cowboys in most songs. Learned to play guitar from his records.
I love this man for the outpouring of his soul and the simplicity of his many songs, making them so translatable by the many artists who followed. "I Can't Help It (If I'm Still in Love with You)"remains my personal favorite, especially as sung by Johnny Tillitson. I also love "You're Cheating Heart" - the George Hamilton the Fourth version. And no one sings "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" better than B. J. Thomas and The Triumphs. Despite adversities in his life, or perhaps because of them, he gave the world so very much -- proof, to me, of God working in mysterious ways. At times his music still brings tears to my eyes.
It is a damn shame that his health was so poor, because I still believe he would have been the single biggest artist of all time. He is so influential that it is unreal. God Bless you Hank.
Hear that lonesome whippoorwill He sounds too blue to fly The midnight train is whining low I'm so lonesome I could cry I've never seen a night so long When time goes crawling by The moon just went behind the clouds To hide its face and cry Did you ever see a robin weep When leaves begin to die That means he's lost the will to live I'm so lonesome I could cry The silence of a falling star Lights up a purple sky And as I wonder where you are I'm so lonesome I could cry Hank William was great because he spoke to basic human emotion.
Hank was the world's first real Country artist to show the world our culture and lives. He was a favorite of my grandfather - a man who was, functionally, my father my entire life until he passed away before I finished High School. I got his vehicles because they were there and I needed a way to get to work/school. Before that he told me he wasn't going to buy me a car or truck of any kind. So I decided I would make him proud and buy one of my own. It was because of that I learned so many things about vehicles, engines, etc.. I never wanted him to go to a mechanic ever again - although he very seldom would in the first place. One of the cars he left me was a 97 Lincoln Town Car. I was a huge fan of Charlie Ryan thanks to Papa as well; I suped it up in tribute to that song and him. One day shortly after I got it I searched through some of the armrest compartments - one of them had a phone in it, shows you how old I am - and found two Hank Williams casettes. I still have them today. I have happy memories of camp fires where we sang Hank Williams together. R.I.P
"And then the crud let out this defining sound. It was the night hank Williams came to town. A thousand people swelterd in the gym then I herd someone wisper hay that's him" - jonny cash There where SONGS written about him!!!
ON THE DAY THAT THE LORD JESUS RETURNS FOR HIS SAINTS, SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE, WILL BE PLAYING A HANK WILLIAMS SR. RECORD - THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER LIKE HIM, NONE EVEN CLOSE - I HOPE TO MEET HIM ONE DAY!
A little bit of psychological attention and some time with a spinal surgeon could have saved him. Poor Hank. I always think of all the potential music he still had left to give and what we were deprived with his passing.
Hank's first name was pronounced "Hiram", with a long i sound (rhymes with 'byrum' or 'fire 'em'). It does not rhyme with 'Miriam". It was misspelled on the birth certificate with an "i" added, but still pronounced like "Hyram". The band used to call him "Harm", like saying it with a heavy southern accent.
THE LEGEND!!!!! sexy voice amazing music and handsome. i grew up on his music in the 90s, i have to say he is the man of the man of country. so sad he had tons of talent he threw away for the bottle. RIP. from what i heard and read his first wife was the one that push him into the music scene and was also reason for many of his songs and increase in drug and drinking. i read in a book while back that he was also beaten hours or a day before his death. RIP
Why can't country music singers just be normal. I have played pedal steel guitar for years and I have hung around in the circles of these people and for some ungodly reason they, for the most part have many demons. Why can't they be normal, sing their country music and love their spouses and family. There are far too few who fall in this category. One that comes to mind who does is Barbara Mandrell. Far too few who are wholesome entertainers like her.
I've been shedding tears most of my life over ol' Hank. And I play his music recordings, and I sing and play my guitar, harmonicas, and fiddle& weep over his tragic life. Know why? I can really understand it all.
I watch a lot of these videos. loved the Johnny Horton and Marty Robbins videos. This was recommended for me today. I watched the video, obviously. I am 29 years old, been a lifelong fan of Hank. Known his story, loved his music. This video got me to wondering how close I was to the exact age that Hank was when he died. Wouldn't you know it? I did the math, counted leap year and everything, and this video was released on the very day that my age is identical to Hank's at the time of his passing. Incredible.
First introduced to his music by young South African 30yrs approx me nearly 17yrs who i shared cabin with on Pendeniss Castle,Union Castle shipping company on route frm Southampton to Cape Town in 75' he had 3Lps of Hanks my first proper induction to Country & Western real enjoyable experience..
Hank was a truly insperational artist. His music has spanned the time even into the modern day. I am a 34 year old musician and his music are some of my favorites to play. The deep feeling his music stirs is nothing short of amazing and you can really tell he was singing from his heart about his life. I only wish we would have had more time with this great legend.
Hank Williams...he started everything. He was Americas first super star. He music was the path that led to all the American music that we love around the world today.

Thank you for watching and for the nice comment!
My daddy loved williams

Sadly Donald Bailey,Don Helms passed away on 2008!
Jason Wallace Don Helms passed away in 2008.
Can't name a bad song by him. Everything Hank wrote was gold.

After the divorce of my wife of 22 years I ended up depressed and homeless and hiked around a bit and remember hiking through the southside of Montgomery late at night on the way back to mobile to see my kids singing i'm so lonesome I could cry while hiking down I-65/the hank Williams highway.

TOTALLY agree!! I'm 62 & my dad raised me on Hank's songs. If there was 1 person I would have loved to meet & shake hands with, it is HANK WILLIAMS!!!
He was a musical legend.Died too young. Will never be forgotten.
Only the good die young
His contribution to country music is timeless. It is no wonder he is referred to as the hillbilly Shakespeare. Generations from now he will still be listened and appreciated to by many.
My grandpa used to perform with Hank Williams down by the old river valley up until his death in 1953.
Hey brother I'm a former Marine from Alabama. Where was your grandaddy from?
BAMA Fan Kansas
Owen Owen That's awesome man! I'm sure your granddaddy had some great stories to tell, about his and Hanks adventures ;)
He is my distance cousin I sadly was not able to meet him but he is still in my heart and I love him not many people believe me but he is

the undisputed king of country music

Before George strait of course
Michael Z george strait has nothing on George Jones
It is a shame that he did not get proper medical attention.
William Bagley you think he had gum disease ?
William Bagley there wasn't much they could do about spina bifidaback then except try an control the pain.
He also had a congenital heart condition. The choral hydrate they gave him is not good for heart conditions. That and he wasn't taking his pain meds properly mixed and killed him, along with his drinking problem. Poor fella. He missed his kids growing up, grandchildren and so many other things.
Pretty sure he had a liver disease from all the beer he drank too.
Many factors caused his death, not just 1...Alcoholism, substance abuse, smoking, very standard for his time. Also modern medicine we take for granted today wasn't so apparent in his time yet.
I bought an album of Hanks that was recorded live while in high school. I still have it over 50 years later.
I like him most in his darker songs, that was the real Hank, "Angel of Death", "I'm so lonesome I could cry", "Someday you'll call my name", "Lonesome whistle", "Cheating heart". He lived out his darker side as "Luke the Drifter" too.
My fav country singer . Love ole Hank . 💗💗

Ace Family Elle it looks like you're more i to rap.... Judging by your profile pic
Zero disrespect but people didn’t age well back then. I was under the impression he was at least 40-45 not 29! Legend none the less.
Ray Unterzuber it's from all the drugs
Alchohol and Drugs will do that.
Drug and alcohol problems make people look older than they are. Nicole Bobek the figure skater took meth and it cause her to look older than she is also.
He was the best, the inspiration for so many different artists.
Ain't that the truth! Thank you, Nadya!

I would love to hear all of the stories. Please make an audio or vid telling the stories. I love hank
Just 29..? Wow -- that surprised me. All that he accomplished....
Well done tribute to Hank Williams. I have enjoyed his music from so many years of my life.
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Absolutely the King of country music. Still loving his music, both of my 19, 16 year old boys love to listen to him and the older country music. That's pretty kewl in my book. Thanks for having put this out for us. God Bless

Yes! Love George Jones, Hank Williams, Don Williams, Glen Cambel, Johney Kash, John Denver! I love Em’ all!
this guy is the holygrail the way he sang the way he lived and the way he died
Hank was a flawed man but a good man. I could tell you all a story my grandfather told me....but nobody would believe it. GOD BLESS YOU HANK!
Now we wanna hear it.
Such a talented artist in music, but he guzzled beer like a Hummer guzzles gas, and it ended with him dying. R.I.P. Hank Williams.
Saw Hank on the Kate Smith show when I was 12. Loved him ever since and know all his songs by heart. Also Know every part played by the Drifting Cowboys in most songs. Learned to play guitar from his records.
So sad that someone who had so much talent could only see darkness. So very, very sad.
Great.
"send me an angel that flies from Montgomery"
Bar none greatest singer songwriter of all time.
Hank is Amerca's greatest songwriter !
When I got divorced, Hank helped me through.
Classic! Legends never die. Thank you for the history lesson.

Very well done. Hank Williams is one of my all-time favorites. Thank y'all for doing this. Sincerely, Smokey Binion, Jr.
Thank you for watching and for the nice comments! We're glad you enjoy the videos!
The REAL KING OF COUNTRY. God bless you Hank
I love hank Williams and his family, god bless them, thanks for the info.
Where would we be without Hank? I cant even imagine :O
I never realized how very young he was when he died. I grew up in the 70's listening to Hank. Still love his songs.
It is a damn shame that his health was so poor, because I still believe he would have been the single biggest artist of all time. He is so influential that it is unreal. God Bless you Hank.
Hear that lonesome whippoorwill
He sounds too blue to fly
The midnight train is whining low
I'm so lonesome I could cry
I've never seen a night so long
When time goes crawling by
The moon just went behind the clouds
To hide its face and cry
Did you ever see a robin weep
When leaves begin to die
That means he's lost the will to live
I'm so lonesome I could cry
The silence of a falling star
Lights up a purple sky
And as I wonder where you are
I'm so lonesome I could cry
Hank William was great because he spoke to basic human emotion.
"he spoke to basic human emotion." So true, well stated.
Tom Tom Hank Williams was country music.
Awesome great job
Tom Tom Tom rouch
@Tom Tom- The words he sang is the way he lived- and all came from his heart!
Aww, it’s a shame we lost a legend early like that

A little bit of psychological attention and some time with a spinal surgeon could have saved him. Poor Hank.

"Help me understand" is one of my all time favorite songs.

Hank and Johnny Cash are my main influences. To sing how I felt they did.
To me he was the best ever
Best country singer ever
He's my hero
One of the BEST...

Mark -- I'd add Loretta Lynn, as well. Love that Loretta.
Hank Williams was a very sweet man. Tyler Lord Hamilton
Who knows what else he could do if he stuck around longer. I wish he could see how well Hank Jr. progressed to this day.
RIP😭.
Hank wrote I Saw the Light.
Love the music he produce so much, I often think there will be much more favorite songs if he stay longer
I've been shedding tears most of my life over ol' Hank. And I play his music recordings, and I sing and play my guitar, harmonicas, and fiddle& weep over his tragic life. Know why? I can really understand it all.

Wow! This is REALLY WELL DONE! I am definitely going to subscribe! Looking forward to seeing more!
Even though he said it was all dark...there’s no telling what he saw after he left the darkness. I really do hope he found the light at the end.
hopefully he got right with God at the last minute
Great video. I learned some new things about Hank. Good job. I gotta look up Luke the Drifter now lol.

Thank You !
A hero just like his son

I do not like todays country.I grew up on Hank Sr., Jimmy Rodgers, George Jones (another great voice) Kitty Wells, the Carter family, the Louvin Brothers, Ferlin, Tubb, All them ol country singers. The ones that know poverty at it ugliest.
70 years ago today we lost him…
Considering he was only on board for about four year's, his body of work was the greatest by any C&W performer ever. My opinion only.
I love ol' Hanky, God bless his soul.
Many thanks for your information which is very valuable.
it's a miracle he did so much in such a short itme, so many incredible songs written by him are still around
