  • Figuring out what to include in your online course can leave you feeling stuck. You want your students to know everything you know and have the tools they need to succeed, but you don't want to overwhelm them with too much info. If you're struggling with how to outline and structure an online course, we've got you covered.
In this video we break down the course outline process into three easy-to-follow parts. Get the clarity you need to make an online course that flies off the shelves.
Follow along with our free course outline template: link.podia.com/outline

    TIME STAMPS:
How to outline and structure an online course - 00:00
Part 1: Identify the end goal - 01:08
    Part 2: Bridge the gap - 04:02
Part 3: Choose the best mediums - 04:55
    SUMMARY:
Part 1: Identify the end goal
    -Figure out the beginning
    -Who is my course for?
-What are they currently struggling with?
    -Figure out the ending
-What end result do I want to create for my student?
-Don't overdo it! (don't try to teach everything you know)
-How much material can you realistically teach?
-How much material can you realistically learn?
-Can your main topic be broken down into subtopics?
-Get more specific - It's better for your student to have success with a relatively small goal than fail trying to learn everything you know
-Use the course outline template: link.podia.com/outline
-Write down the "who" and "what" at the top of the page
    Part 2: Bridge the gap
-What major milestones will your student need to achieve to get from where they are now to the result you want to create?
-Write these down in the module section of the course template
-Break the modules down into individual lessons
    -Find the right granularity
-Not so much info that it's overwhelming
-Enough info to produce a tangible result
Part 3: Choose the best mediums
-Ask: Is this medium the best way for my student to achieve the result I promise?
    -Video
-Pros: Most engaging, multi-sensory experience, creates the strongest connection between instructor and student
-Cons: Time consuming to create, expensive equipment
    -Audio
-Pros: Easiest to consume, students can listen while doing other tasks
-Cons: Easy to get distracted, somewhat expensive equipment
    -PDF
-Pros: Easier and less expensive to produce, easier to reference, great for walking students through the material, graphic rich
    -Cons: Not as engaging
    -Text
-Pros: Easiest to produce, doesn't require additional tools or skills
-Cons: Least engaging, writing well takes practice

@@KyleRutledge That is amazing! I have history with substance abuse disorder, and I played games a lot when I was younger. I don’t play that much anymore, but I’ve noticed that when I do, about every three or four years I will get so deeply into a game, usually role-playing and be sucked into it for three or four weeks, nonstop! Then it’s like I need to come up for air, and then I don’t play video games for another few years. They are such masterpieces of cinema and sound, plot and character. These stays

My biggest challenge is defining a specific audience, without eliminating potential clients. My area is leader ship which is very broad, so I’m reaching out to those who are currently in positions of responsibility, but also to anyone who’s interested in expanding their leadership capacity, whether or not they have a position. How do I say that succinctly?

    • @phenomenal5537
      @phenomenal5537 Před 3 lety

Hi John! I completely understand your frustration, perhaps narrowing it down to pain points within leadership like leader-ship itself. Maybe zoom in on the attributes of leader-ship (not the leader) and then zoom out and show practical application in various fields. I'm noticing that alot of people who need to understand how to transfer their leader-ship abilities into another industry, how to reposition themselves mentally, and what skills gaps they may need to nurture to leverage their leadership experience. Just a thought
