Clarification
The devs knew unity. They switched to unreal cause the lead engineer they hired is a unreal protege. So he taught them unreal as they went along
Also the grocery kid wasn't a kid. He was around 20 and had a middle school education. But he was passionate about game design and loved designing guns. The devs met him and saw his passion and they also needed someone to make the guns. So they asked him to do it. He apparently got like half done in about a month or so.
Their lead artist for pals also applied twice. She was rejected the first time cause the CEO didn't like her art. She reapplied and since they were desperate he brought her on.
Yea it was alot of wild stuff that went on to make this game lol
I understand why CEO doesn't want her, but im also glad that she's in, without her i wouldn't get my Chillet

Chillet, Dazzi, Depresso. Also Nox. There are so many great and adorable designs in the game.
And after all, there is still a value question - is it really so expensive to create a good game that we need to pay a 70$ for AAAA game now, when a bunch of amateurs can did it for like a year or two learning how to basically work with UE at the same time? And all of it, including 40 additional animators hired (who also learned to work with the UE on the go, because it’s cheaper) costs around 6kk$. It's seems like more A in a game status is actually worse than better.

Let's be honest, the pals got it better than I did at my old job - at least if the handler is a nice dude: free medical care (although only God knows what's in those meds), a freakin' hot tub on site, free room and board and quite a few dating nights sponsored by the boss.
Admittedly, the partner usually ends up being a sheep, a six hundred ton sea serpent or, well, an Alpha Lovander (a twenty feet tall colossal heart-chested lizard that could give some pointers to Pepe le Pew) but since the "employee" is a pal itself, who gives a potato? Unless, of course, the "pal" turns out to be a captured human, then you better slap on some earplugs to muffle the screams of panic. Particularly if said Alpha Lovander turns out to be a male.
The dating nights are their favorite part

Honestly, while all these aspects are awesome, I think there's one thing that makes it particularly good: it's entirely your choice how you act. Sure you can be a capitalist slavedriver, but it's equally possible to give the pals whatever they need and want. Including pats (or handholding in the case of Petallia and the Lyleens). And each and every pal has an anination for that. GameFreak can't even conceive such a thing anymore.

I think Pocket Pair is trolling people with their team size. Craftopia sold 600,000 units. That's $15 million in gross revenue. Despite the bugs, Palworld runs pretty friggin clean for some amateurs that learned the software as they went. They've been around almost a decade so idk if I'm buying the whole yea we don't even know what we're doing shtck. Which is fine. I think it's funny.
