If the 16th Duke had only daughters, then the 17th Duke was the Duke's brother.

The 16th and 17th Duke were 2nd cousins once removed, their common ancestor was the 13th Duke of Norfolk

The Duke was only 66 years old when he died, and it's hard to believe that he was a Roman Catholic.

All the Dukes of Norfolk have been Roman Catholic.

Yes. The Duke of Norfolk was Catholic. All the Dukes of Norfolk kept to the Catholic Faith. Is there no Duke of Norfolk today.

@@dianesicgala4310 The Duke of Norfolk is the premier Duke and Earl and is also Earl Marshall with a permanent seat in the House of Lords. There are plenty of collateral branches of the House of Howard to ensure there will always be a Duke of Norfolk.

@@jadenquest9544 It is when you're a Duke. No British Ducal titles can go to or through females. If you have only females and no other male relatives, the title goes extinct. That's what happened to the Duke of Leeds. Title was made in the 1700s and went extinct in the mid 1970s or 1980s. All the males died and the only one of the next generation was a female.
