    I suppose period correct is cool, but if I went through the trouble of pulling the engine doing a rebuild, I would have put an AFR or TFS head on that thing, easy 100hp gain at the wheels....and if you ever want to go back to 100% stock (say to sell it or something), it's just a head swap away....either way, she's a nice looking truck.

    Friday saw a white lightning on highway 60 in Missouri. Nobody else commented about it. Glad others appreciate it too.

      @@Highlander1432 Me too. Always wanted the first gen Lightning . Neat truck for sure. I own a 2020 GMC Sierra elevation with the turbo 4. Amazing thing is similar performance as lightning. Still love a typhoon or lightning though.

    Maybe a tad low on the hp, but respectable numbers for what it is. Those set-up's were more for torque than high hp anyways. Very nice example of a gen 1 lightning.

    Had Gen1 and Gen2 Lightnings and enjoyed both of them, but one almost forgets how anemic the early trucks were ! Current 6 pot F150s would have that scurrying for cover, but obviously NEVER be as cool ! If they weren’t so costly I’d still have a Gen1, but it would have a modern transmission and a built stroker with north of 500hp…

    They were rated 240/325 from the factory, with a 18% drivetrain loss, that's 257hp / 341 ft-lbs, seems about right. Hand port those GT40 heads and the intake and you'll pick up a good 30-40 hp more with minimal work.

    What cam has it got? I’m assuming the comp speed density cam y’all sell. Assuming the truck is still speed density

    • @latemodelrestoration
      @latemodelrestoration  Před 8 měsíci +2

      Yes, the truck is still speed density. Yes, it has the Comp Cam CCA-350009 camshaft that we sell. We hadn't listed the cam on the website at the time of the video, so that's why it wasn't discussed in greater detail. -Landan

      @@latemodelrestoration awesome! Truck is making great power for a mostly stock lightning. Gives me hope for mine to make 250-300 at the tires. Similar combo just mass air y302’s ported and flat top pistons with a tfs1 camshaft.
