I suppose period correct is cool, but if I went through the trouble of pulling the engine doing a rebuild, I would have put an AFR or TFS head on that thing, easy 100hp gain at the wheels....and if you ever want to go back to 100% stock (say to sell it or something), it's just a head swap away....either way, she's a nice looking truck.

Maybe a tad low on the hp, but respectable numbers for what it is. Those set-up's were more for torque than high hp anyways. Very nice example of a gen 1 lightning.

Current 6 pot F150s would have that scurrying for cover, but obviously NEVER be as cool ! If they weren’t so costly I’d still have a Gen1, but it would have a modern transmission and a built stroker with north of 500hp…
They were rated 240/325 from the factory, with a 18% drivetrain loss, that's 257hp / 341 ft-lbs, seems about right. Hand port those GT40 heads and the intake and you'll pick up a good 30-40 hp more with minimal work.
