I have installed Takegawa speedo on my 2019 MONKEY. It is working great. I also installed 14t front and 36t rear sprockets that make the indicated speed inaccurate. Wheels and tires are sock. Setting the speedo's a - 4 function to 85% corrects the error and now matches GPS speed readings.
That is seriously the only reason I didn't replace it before. I was trying to think if there's some way to hack the display on this and get it to blink, then I won't feel so bad.
Just fitted my Takengawa Speedo/ Rev Counter thanks for the video! I did the same as yourself and managed to get the wiring into the headlight bucket! much better because it keeps the connections from the weather or washing the Motorcycle! like you said it was a tight squeeze but you can just get it all in there! You have to cut off the plastic boot they tell you to put tape around to get it in there but at least the connections are better inside than out! thanks I went through your video and Eastcoastish to install it and will thank him too! ride safe! I think bar end mirrors for me next!
On an ABS model, when changing the sprocket size, you'll get the ABS warning light cause your front wheel is not running at the speed the bike is expecting. This can be solved by a speedohealer to correct your speedometer. Do you think this can also be solved by just changing the speed offset on this speedometer? Or is the calculation for the ABS done before the signals are going to the speedometer?
I believe you'd need to change this with a speedohealer instead as that would help correct the mileage and overall speed seen by the system. From what I could tell, the tach is mostly just adding a multiplier to what its reporting.
What is all that white stuff under the speedometer? Are those dead bugs???? 😁 Thanks for the explanation on the install - I am looking at the OPMID speedometer as an option - the only reason is because in the sun, the monkey stock speedo is very faint....but I like the blinking eyes, so I am not in a hurry 😁
Probably a good mixture of dead bugs and mud that I could quite clean off. :) I’ve seen a lot of interest in the OPMID, it does look like a great option.
@unknown over land I'm installing this right now and can't figure out where to stash the wire harness behind the light bucket. I watched a few videos, and yours looks like the only one that re-routes the wiring to inside the bucket (I think?). Dumb questions but is it possible to even fit that all that wiring behind the bucket somewhere? Or is supposed to be in the bucket per your video. Appreciate the help!!
It was all really hard to find a way to fit it all in a way that looked clean, but somehow I got everything to pretty much fit in the bucket. I did cut the rubber boot off the main harness and probably crammed things into whatever space I could find.
@@UnknownOverLand Thanks for quick reply! That's kind of what I figured, thanks for confirming., I'll probably do the same, and try to cram everything in the bucket! Funny those other videos all say how easy the install is, but then all skip showing the only part that's somewhat of a challenge...what do I with this big ol' wire harness!! Ha! Thanks again for the help and videos, you're doing god's work =)
@@UnknownOverLand No idea how you go that to fit!. i even took a screenshot of your wires in the bucket, I still cannot get that thing to close. Been at Tetris for two hours,. Had to throw in the towel for the night 😢 Might have to rip all out and start again 🤔
@@jsussman100 I feel your pain, I’m unsure if you have the stock turn signals but that’s one thing I may have had a little different in trying to fit everything. Otherwise, it was really just a lot of smooshing.
I have two main ones depending on the amount of torque required. For smaller jobs, I have a Venzo Bicycle Torque Wrench (amzn.to/30tYPSI) and for most jobs I use the Tekton Torque Wrench (amzn.to/326KMmq). Btw, those are both affiliate links, but please feel free to not use the links at all.
Nice video as always. I will be installing one soon or the one from Hard Racing. The Opmid is kinda cool as it uses the stock temp sender to monitor heat no extra parts to install. Since I dont have a tach how much did the RPM's change form the 15t to the 14t sprocket pinned in 3rd & 4th? store.hardracing.com/honda-monkey-125-parts-accessories/gauges-air-fuel-temperature-voltmeter-5383/opmid-m1204-multi-meter-plug-n-play-19-20-honda-monkey-125-and-ct125
I've been looking at the OPMID as well, I'm not entirely sure I like it's overall look, but that integrated EOT sensor is really nice compared to the Takegawa. I may actually pick one up to do a comparison video at some point. The 14t really affects those lower gears, in 3rd and 4th I'm not really sure I've seen much of a difference at the higher RPMs. Getting into the larger rear sprockets, though, you could definitely see the bike struggling to use those higher gears.
I did order from Webike, it took about a week to get to my home. Interestingly, I ordered the oil-cooler sensor from them Sunday and shipped from Japan to my house in 2 days.

Legit the same reason i dont want to swap my stock speedo on the monkey...the blinking eyes!

Thanks so much! I agree, having the wires in the headlight will hopefully keep it all much cleaner overall.
Looks awesome. Great job.
Thank you!
Appreciate your videos and thanks for sharing?
Hi I would like you to do a video on the setting up the Takengawa Speedo to learn the gears instruction video! looks very complicated to me!
That’s a great idea, it does seem to be pretty complicated. I’ll try and do that soon.

what kind of helmet do you use? , sad to see the monkey eyes go, but it got a good retro look with the new clock :)
The helmet is a Biltwell Gringo S ECE with the bubble shield. Such a great helmet. And yes, nice to keep some amount of the retro look with the bike.

Dude, I just got a 2022 Monkey abs. Will you help me install this thing, please? I’m in Denver. Thanks! 😅
I'm sure you can do it! Congrats on the Monkey!
Anyone that knows the diameter of this speedo? The inner part, not the cover, but would like to make it built in in a headlight.
I don't know offhand, but I do know that the stock headlights are already pretty crowded. This sounds like a cool idea, though.
Nice. One thing I didn’t see: Does the new gauge have a fuel gauge?
In the thumbnail you can kind of see it in the lower right, but yes it does.
I like it 👍🏼
Thanks so much!

What is the stock rev limit?
I believe the stock rev limit is around 9500rpm.
Nice Vid
Definitely have this on my list of Mods

RPM.. that's what your ears are for!!!
You've ridden with me, I'm too busy talking to myself to hear the RPMs.
Would you be willing to sell your old takegawa tach and parts? I can't find it anywhere?
I’d definitely be willing to sell it. DM me on Instagram and we can discuss.

What bars are you running
They are the ProTaper 7/8 KLX110 Bars. I made a video on them, I’ve really liked them.

Could you do more sound effects. I love that.
I’ll try to remember to do more in the future. Really ups the production quality.
When it comes, buy the ct125.....more speed, more room...and comfort..
I really like the idea of the CT125, very interested to see what it can do when it finally gets to the US.
