  • The process of forging a blade from a cable. Mosaic damask steel from the cable. On the cutting edge steel W110, zone hardening 62 units. Such video from the photos I already had, I shot the full video.
    my website: sites.google.c...
    Frequently Asked Questions: The billet is soaked in kerosene. This is necessary for good welding (forging) steel. I sprinkle flux (90% borax + 5% quartz sand + 5% charcoal powder) this is necessary for forging (forge) welding. The flux is alloyed with scale - the formed substance is sufficiently fluid and is easily displaced by deformation. In addition, the flux protects against oxygen and charcoal, carburizes the surface layer of metal - which lowers the welding temperature (if in brief). I do not answer the question of cost - write to mail: sites.google.c...

    I see a lot of this guy's work. Unique and beautiful at the same time. I think everyone has the right to their own opinion and what they feel is blacksmith worthy. I believe this guy make some of the best and most amazing things from a small workshop as he does. Hate on me if you want, agree if you want. Doesn't matter. Beautiful is in the eyes of the beholder. One man's trash may be another man's treasure.

    • @WayPastCrazy2525
      @WayPastCrazy2525 Před 5 lety +3

      This is definitely "blacksmithing", in my opinion. It's foolhardy and unproductive to only use the traditional methods from the medieval days. It still takes great skill to do what I just saw in this vid.

      @WayPastCrazy2525 Před 5 lety +2

      @Zombie ZH himer .... Well I'm not saying it's any definitive method or product, as I'm by no means knowledgeable enough to know the difference. I guess all I'm saying is what he's doing takes some skill and knowledge to accomplish what he did. It looks like blacksmithing, even if it's not of the truest form of it before power tools came into existence.

      +Zombie ZH himer yep. skill... why, you don't think that takes skill to do? just asking. I've been welding for about 38 years and I'm certified in all kinds of welding positions with different companies across the USA and including with the US Navy and Coast Guard and 3 state DOT's and I can tell ya it takes skill to weld certified plates and pipe and this looks like to me it takes more skill than what I can do. so I'm interested in why you think it doesn't if that is what you are implying and what you do that does take skill..? it seems to me you know about Damascus steel so then you must be in this type of trade such as blacksmithing so you must know more than me about it but to say that doesn't take skill is an understatement as far as I'm concerned. just saying..

    the purpose of making a damascus blade is to make the grains of the steel as long as possible so they can endure shear and bending stresses. Not just to make the blade beautiful - and the grains of the steel apparent to the naked eye. And this blade has 5 obvious regions (streaked areas) where grain boundaries are incoherent. So , not such a great job for the purpose of making this knife as THE best cutting tool. Nevertheless, nice technique...

      Bin selber Metallbauer gewusst wie, so wie mit allem...Wer möchte kann auch! Und trotzdem meine Wertschätzung, leider wird heutzutage kaum noch Handwerk bezahlt. Deswegen sehe ich mich nun gezwungen die Arbeit zu wechseln! Vielleicht Polizei oder Feuerwehr, da verdient man wenigstens als "Angestellter, Handwerker" noch richtig gutes Geld. Um einiges mehr wie in der freien Marktwirtschaft!
      Ja Beamte sind überbezahlt, die Gesellschaft hält nämlich die Handwerker zusammen nicht Polizei und Co., Bauern sind die wichtigsten, da sie essen produzieren!

      Most blacksmiths and machinists don't wear gloves. When forging gloves force you to grip the hammer harder and in turn you can get tennis elbow. When dealing with machines you should NEVER wear gloves, it the machine catches your glove it should seriously hurt you. There is a time and place for gloves, but in blacksmithing it's rare.
