  • Congratulations on the 60th anniversary of "Move It", which was released on the 29th of August 1958 and went straight to No. 2 on the UK Singles Charts. The song was Cliff's first ever hit single.
    Cliff Richard & The Shadows performing "Move It" live on "The Cliff Richard Show" in March 1960.

      Not exactly. Zeppelin, Stones and Beatles were influenced by black american music like Chuck Berry, Little Richard , Robert Johnson and white rockers like Elvis and Buddy Holly.

      @@Mysterywhiteboy78 Thanks. No doubt, you are right about these influencies, but don't forget that Cliff Richard was a british answer to Elvis. And we can say that he was the principal britain rock singer to call young britains' attention at the end of the fifties. So, in the motivation way, he opened the door to the great and fantastic bands that came after him in that country.

    If only Cliff had continued with this tough sound, he would have been regarded as the one of the greatest rockers ever. This is hard rock in its earliest possible incarnation and it still kicks ass.

      I was 2 years old! I didn't catch up with Cliff until later. The Beatles and Stones got me in the '60s. Along with Dave Clark Five, Herman's Hermits, Paul Revere and the Raiders, The Byrds, etc.

    Am 67 now USA, when a teen remember hearing him on long/shortwave radio as I was DX'r then, probably Radio Caroline, totally different times/existence then, just thankful this wasn't lost; this is prime rock as ever, sounds fantastic today as it did then, never ages; and love how the girls scream background as he moved/danced around mid-tune; thanks for this, salute to Cliff and those years.😀

      It's not the first British rock and roll song - Tommy Steele, Marty Wilde, Jim Dale all predate this.

      @@huwthomas4173 It's generally accepted that Move It was the first entirely written, produced and performed by British artists. Everything before were copies of American records, Rock with the Cave man by Tommy Steele was in 1956 but was written as a novelty song. Even John Lennon said there was nothing in this country musicwise until Move it.

Many English think England and Britain or English and British are the same thing, such is their arrogance and/or ignorance. So, we Scots have to differentiate in the way that you English don't. Besides, I much prefer Nazareth and the Alex Harvey Band if you're talking about Scottish bands.

    I'm 21 and doing research on the most popular music genres through the years in Britain for my college course work. Consider my jaw dropped seeing that Cliff Richard was around in the 50s and he looked like this. Sometimes I feel really old. Sometimes I feel like I know nothing, this is a time were the latter is the case. Like wow. Just wow.

    I'd just turned 9 when this was broadcast - not that I watched it (not sure we even had a TV), but what a great live performance! Turn the volume up & you'll understand how exciting music was in those days - & continued to be for quite a while. Now, however, rock 'n' roll is 70 years old, & contemporary music is, sadly, showing its age.

    I still have this record - the first British RR record except maybe for Tommy Steel . Fond memories of my teens, never missed Oh Boy on a Saturday. Then came the Swinging Sixties in my twenties and still single. Times of my life I won't replace - I'm now 82

    I'm not a great fan but this is Britain's 'That's alright (mama)' moment. Without this there is no Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath. It deserves more respect

    This guy is a serious Bad Ass !!! I only knew of him from the mid to late 70's, and he had already been in the game for 20 plus years.. "Suddenly" with Olivia is one of my favorite songs.. I am just finding this out right now.. He stayed looking young for a very long time...

      I actually didn't think it was the same man singing at first because I knew him from the 70s as well and he was always more of a soft-spoken pop singer. I found this song from an article about the 100 Best guitar solos. This is fantastic stuff.

    When I was like 5 in the 70's I was really stuck on a couple of his new hits, then 45 yrs later I realize he kicked rockabilly ass before that. Cliff Richard was an extremely talented artist.

    Showing my age, as a conscript serving in 1958/60. Our barrack block, brick built 2 floors , had an empty section. 40 foot long 20 foot wide totally empty except for an old Phillips radio gram. This record was put turned up full volume, maximum bass. The building shuck, as I am sure half of Barrack Road Newcastle down to St James Park did

    Arriving in Bremerhaven, West Germany in March of 1963 for a three year tour, somewhere during that time I heard Cliff and the Shadows on Radio Lux. Never heard of Cliff then, but the Shads in 1960 made it across the pond. I was a fan and since I still had hair, I combed it like Cliff. Great music has come from Cliff and the Shadows for decades. Thanks for the music!

    Astonishing to think when this show went out Cliff was still 19, Hank and Bruce were 18, Jet was 20 and Tony had just had his 17th birthday! And at that age they were biggest act in the UK amazing! 60 years later still going strong. Tony Meehan was a classy drummer, his style was totally different from other drummers at that time
