Movies like Brother Bear should be be brought back every year to theaters every year for reruns. It's a cinematic masterpiece that brings like-minded individuals back together.
This movie looking back in 2021, I believe was made for Joaquin Phoenix. I believe these characters in this movie represent different aspects of Joaquin Phoenix’s life and redemption: the character of Kenai definitely represents Joaquin as a man who loves his family, but makes decisions that are questionable when he is in a time of suffering, & eventually matures to realize the error of his ways as well as becoming a better person than he was before; the character of Sitka definitely represents Joaquin’s late older brother River Phoenix, who was in a way the bedrock for not only Joaquin but his entire family & tragically died prematurely (just like Sitka was the chief of the tribe and the bedrock both Kenai & Denahi relied upon for strength) & in death, provides his loved ones the strength to becomes better people as well as setting a standard to their lives, so they can honor his memory; Koda represents the innocence of Joaquin Phoenix that he lost when River tragically died & that he struggled to regain as well as accept once again later on in his life; & finally Denahi represents, in a way, Joaquin’s personal problems chasing him throughout his life that had to eventually confront and make amends with. The story also can definitely be applied to Joaquin Phoenix’s path to manhood & redemption: from the death of his brother, to Joaquin making some questionable personal decisions in his life, to receiving help in his darkest days of how to redeem himself, & finally to maturing into the respectable & inspirational man he is today.
Since the movie is Denahi telling the story to the audience, I like to imagine that at the beginning of the movie, when Denahi is old, he has three granddaughters who are all sisters. One day, he shows them the wall of handprints. All three girls are amazed by how many handprints there are. As the oldest sister walks around and examines the prints, we learn that she will be getting her totem in a few days, which she is very excited about. However, she's also a bit nervous because she's worried that her totem might be something that she doesn't like. Right after this revelation, she notices a pawprint on the wall. She says that that's very strange. The girl then shows it to her younger sisters and she asks her grandfather why it's there if the rest of the prints are all hands. Denahi tells his granddaughter that it's a bear's pawprint, and it belongs to his brother and her great uncle, Kenai. This confuses all three sisters, and Denahi tells his oldest granddaughter that he knows that she's worried that her totem might be something that she doesn't like, and that Kenai would know how she feels. She asks him if her great uncle was turned into a bear. He says that she's correct. Wanting to help boost his granddaughter's confidence and spirits about her totem, Denahi tells her that he is sure that she would love her totem and learn what it means. It makes her feel so much better, and she thanks her grandfather for boosting her confidence. He then asks her if she would like him to tell her the story of her great uncle Kenai. She happily says yes and she would love that, and her younger sisters excitedly say in unison to him to tell them too. And so, Denahi begins the story. Every once in a while, throughout the movie, one of his granddaughters politely interrupts the story to make some comments and/or ask a question. Denahi doesn't mind, likes his granddaughters' thoughts and answers their questions. At the end of the story, the oldest sister happily says that she now knows that her totem will be wonderful and something that she would love and suits her. She then thanks her grandfather and goes to play with her younger sisters. Near the end of the movie, on the day of Denahi's oldest granddaughter's totem ceremony, he gives her her totem and she's overjoyed when she sees what it is: the Bear of Love, the same totem as her great uncle Kenai's! She knows that it's because of her love for her sisters, her parents, the rest of her family and all of her friends. The three sisters all hug and Kenai happily watches his great nieces as the movie comes to a close. If Brother Bear ever gets a remake, then I'd love to see my idea in it! 👸💗💟🌹💐🌸🎀🐱🦄🍰

Mitchell Lombard [Student] duly noted, I remember my mom wanted to see it with me, but I think my excuses were due to either I was to tired from work or ironically enough “We got Lion King at home.” And now I find that memory kind of hilarious in hindsight.

Oh I just saw this movie for the first time in years ❤. The ending is still good. Kenai stayed as a bear to be with Koda who had nobody left after he killed his mom. They’ve been through everything together and he couldn’t bear(bare) to leave Koda by himself. I’d say the curse was a good thing cause it taught him a lesson to respect wildlife and how precious they are. Revenge only brings misery and pain.
Why does he choose to stay a bear at the end? That part always made me laugh. He has seen human females before, right? Does he know that going forward his only option will be bear love? And he's okay with that?
i used to think that, but after watching the "welcome to our family" scene, i don't think he would have wanted to turn human. back then, being a bear sounds better in this movie then being a human lol
Brother dinosaur: my brother Kenai went on to live with jr and the other tyrannosauruses he taught me that love was very powerful, and I passed down the wisdom of his story to my people: the story of a boy who became a man by becoming a dinosaur.

I was just reading a good fanfic called The Bond of Brothers. In it Denahi becomes a bear to be with Kenai and Koda and is one for about a year. Eventually they adopt another cub and fight off hunters, but Denahi decides to return to being human and Koda goes with him. Kenai remains as a bear to take care of the other cub. An older Denahi tells the story to young children including Koda's son Kenai
But he's gotta take care of Koda because he might have no one to turn to since he doesn't have a family and can't survive in the wild at a young age alone, considering that bigger animals will hurt him, so Kenai had no other choice but to stay as a bear to be with Koda because he cares about him.
I loved the ending of Kenai remaining a bear cause it ends the film on a beautiful and satisfying ending that works amazing for the character development Kenai went through in the film. ❤
To me, Finding Nemo and Brother Bear were perfect films without villains as it was unique over a misunderstanding being the antagonist and working to resolve that beautifully ❤

what do the critics have to say? it‘s an amazing movie.
It's not wonderful it's more than that it's terrific
RT gave it only 37% just because it has "no plot".

Brother Bear and The Prince Of Egypt are too underrated they need more attention
