I think it is the modern speak and some of the modern jokes that turn people off. I think it is good but I get were people are coming from if they say they don't like it.
The theme in this movie is so strong considering it's a Disney movie. The major twist near the end having Koda's mom be the bear Kenai killed at the beginning made it very dark and as a kid I just didn't realize this. I still love this movie, but now I love it even more.
I knew what happened, I just didn't see how dark it was until I got older. I was just all "Oh no!" and then it's like you process it and you go "Oh no..." xD
Auron530 it's one of those great moments where....disney takes a chance on something we don't see too often, usually so fomulic...but wow that part was just..powerful hehe.
I wonder what the adults watching the movie were thinking at that time. I reckon most of them would just think "Oh it's just a Disney movie." If I had been an adult during the time I watched the movie for the first time I feel as though my emotions would've been much stronger. I'm kind of a sucker for these kind of moments, haha.
Auron530 Yeah :> I know it effected me alot :> But disney some times gets away with it :> Look at Frozen last year, and lego movie this year they were partly on...
Not gonna lie fellas, the scene where Kenai shapes his pawprint into a handprint gets me every time. It's almost as if he's acknowledging to the spirits and to himself that he is the monster, not bears. Koda described man as being monsters, while Kenai described bears as monsters. Koda is familiar with bears and trusts them, and we see Kenai acknowledging this by turning a bear paw, a symbol of the creatures that Koda trusts, into a handprint, a symbol of the monsters that took his mother away from him.
What a powerful scene. Given the regret in Kenai's voice, it feels like Joaquin Phoenix was flashing back to when he lost his older brother, River Phoenix.
I love both versions of this scene. They both have their merits. I LOVE hearing the characters talk about their struggles and feelings. And it's really gripping how Kenai's voice breaks a few times. He's hurting so bad and he hates himself. Beautiful. But the final version is just as gripping to me. People say it's cheesy. But I've always taken that scene seriously. The song is beautiful and powerful and it definitely tells us what we need to know about how Kenai is feeling. Which is just as good as him telling Koda and the audience. And the way the music builds and builds until Koda runs away heartbroken. That has always made me cry. You can feel the little guy's pain. You can feel it in this one too of course. But the movie version is most definitely worthy of praise.
Much prefer this version. Bigger impact. I get the feeling Disney made the call to water it down because it was out of place from the mood of the rest of the movie. The rest of the movie takes a very lighthearted tone despite the deep conflicts.
I don't personally see it as that out of place. When Sitka died in the first act, there was no sugar coating it. He was dead, and it was made clear, and the moment was sad and mournful. It seems an odd choice to tone it down when it felt like the film wasen't above delving into the reality of things. That said, I feel like the film could definitely have benefited from this scene over the original cut.
Wow... That's weird. Don't get me wrong, it's your opinion, but I rarely meet someone who dislike Phil Collins. I mean, for me, personnally, he's in my top 3 best singer ever.
People don't hate the actual song, they just hate the fact where the song was place and that it covered the actual scene. Because they didn't get to know what Kenai was saying.
I don't hate the song. It's just that the final ver of the scene wasn't exactly as impactful as the deleted scene. I mean I understand why the directors made the choice considering we did saw the reveal during Koda's story so we already know that Kenai killed Koda's mother.
This was the first movie I ever saw in theaters, and during this scene, I was very young, but still understood what Kenais confession meant, and I cried so much. Now, being older, what breaks me more is when he turns the pawprint into a handprint. God, this movie is soooo underrated.
This is how it SHOULD have been done in the first place. The final cut that involved them playing the song OVER Kenai’s confession was the people behind this movie taking the coward’s way out.
AlphaTengua How? This has a great set up to a very emotional scene where they build up the confession with Kenai being indirect because he was worried about being upfront to Koda what he had done. I feel the song dominating this whole confession scene just ruins it.
Idk parents are whiny in my town they wanted to ban ferngully but looking back..lion king sinbad treasure planet ELDORADO all are kind of worse... Maybe they just had to rush it too. But i think it's cuz of whiney parents saying its "Too violent and sad" for kiddies. But thats just me
They should've kept this confession scene/version. So much more affective than the final version in the movie, if I remember correctly. Haven't seen it for years though. Thanks for making this combo!
Going to have to go with being in the minority here but I honestly liked the released movie's version of this better. It just feels to me that there really was no dialogue that could truly encompass and relay all of what was going on within Kenai or Koda during this. Instead the music was there to capture the emotion while the animation captured the physical impact. Both of those did a far better job of getting the emotional depth of this scene to me then the dialogue here did. I have had lots of moments and feelings that just have no words for them and the film version of this scene made me really feel that.
As much as I like hearing the whole confession and it is very touching (close to tears) I think that the scene in the movie where you only hear Kenai say the few lines is very powerful and has the same amount of emotion as this does!
I don't know why people complain about Phil Collins singing here it really hurts really to hear this song and watch as Kenai explains to Koda what happened. It was so gut wrenching to me and even as a kid I knew what was happening so when he explains to Koda about it, I wouldn't stop crying. I still can't stop crying from that scene.
This scene is so sad and powerful because keni now realized that he was the monster all along and he now realized the other side to life beside being a selfish human. He now knows that nature and animals are no different than people. It's crazy a children's movie teaches us more about life than half of these movies out here...
They probably took this scene out because it's a little too dark and sad for little kids. We already know he killed the mom. This scene would have overwhelmed them
I feel like I'm the only one who likes the cut that made it into the movie more than this one. In this version of the story, the audience already knows the story being told, because we saw it play out in its entirety, not to mention Koda's retelling with Kenai's flashbacks thrown in the scene before. Telling the whole thing again would just be boring, because the scene before literally did just that. The movie cut, meanwhile, takes the emphasis off of the words, instead placing it on the emotions of the characters to tell the story, with the key lines put in to both tell its own self contained story, and give those lines in particular more emphasis. And while the Phil Collins can get annoying sometimes, I personally think it fits really well in this scene. Even so, if you cut out the Phil Collins and put in another piece, then the movie cut would, in my opinion, be better suited to the narrative of the movie, as well as being a good self contained story. And what that means is, if you had this cut outside of the movie, it would sound really exposition-y, whereas with the movie cut, you could take it out of the film and still feel the power of the scene, because even without knowing exactly what happened, the animation, word choice, and expression in the characters faces can suck you in to the drama, and even give you a general sense of what happened.

@Thecolete Jees, I don't know, I haven't uploaded the whole movie, just this little project combining a deleted scene with the "finished" scene from the movie. It's pretty much in the end so I would say one part before the last, maybe.

i love this scene its one of my favorites. But seeing this deleted scene makes me wish that they could have fit both phil collins song and this scene together because this was a really good scene wish they didnt delete it.
This is my custom-made scene, though. In the original you'll here their voices alot better! I think the Swedish dub is ok, but I don't prefer it even though I'm Swedish ;) Watched it in cinemas when it was released.
And we had the Gaul to call THEIR kind monsters.
Mi dispiace tanto per koda che cucciolo dio mio
WTF? 😡 Disney knows how to rip your heart out with these scenes. 😩😔💔 This movie is so underrated.
I'm not crying your crying
This is a very sad story
Poor poor little Korda! ;(
Candy: [Roars] Scared you again, huh?
(Candy giggles)
Emily: Yeah.
Candy: Where have you been? You look horrible.
Emily: Candy.
Candy: My brother says when you eat too much food, you should just lie down...
Emily: Candy... [sighs] There's something I, you know, that story you told me last night?
Candy: Yeah.
Emily: Well, I have a story to tell you.
Candy: Really? What's it about?
Emily: Well, it's kind about a woman & kind about a warrior. But, mostly, it's about a monster, a monster who did something so bad...
