Refrigerant Pressure Switches (Part 1)

- This video is a few minutes on hvac refrigerant pressure switches. You can find them in straight ac units or heat pumps but they are not used in all of them! I go through identifying issues when you have the unit cycling and you are able to easily see with you manifold gauges what is happening in the system. I also get into the 2 methods I would use to check the pressure switches if you happen to come upon the unit when it isn't working.
For a bonus I actually take a few minutes and show you some fittings used to add in a pressure switch on a unit that does not have one installed from the factory. They left an access port open? Don't make sense to me. I mention using a "Tee" if you had the port in the outdoor unit but something else (like a TXV equalizer line) is attached to it. Make sure that you know whether or not you will be letting refrigerant out of the system if you undo any portion of the system. We would not want to let refrigerant out and more importantly we don't want anyone hurt.
This pressure switch stuff is too easy and it is something that can easily be done for yourself and/or your customer. The unit I use to install a low pressure switch on was obviously hand-picked for its ease of access but you could very easily do this another way in the field.

Thanks for the explanation of a generic low 25psi that can do both R410&R22. I probably came across that issue of a wrong low pressure switch on a R22 system that was actually for a R410!
Good video great explanation . Need more videos keep sending them out !
Your knowledge is top notch.
I like every single video from your channel keep it up 👍🏽⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟🌟🌟✨✨✨🌟🌟🌟⭐️⭐️⭐️
🤔 i don't know about every one! Even I got some that I don't like 🤣
This guys good he sounds like Dimebag Darrel Abbott Legendary Guitarist from Pantera so he must be from Texas and "what not". Good Job
I got kin folk in TX but originally from Louisiana. Good catch!
Great job John always look forward to seeing new videos thanks again
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Really appreciate it.
Thank you John for sharing your knowledge.
Good Info . I got a Old Carrier that started Short Cycling last nite. One dual cap for Herm and Fan . Plus one single cap for fan . Dual cap on Herm side measured 0 micro ferrads and fan side was low . Replaced today and still Short Cycling . then i did the voltage checks for 24v and found 26 v at thermostat wire before Pressure Switch and 0 v after switch . Dont know if i can remove it . There seems to be only one Pressure switch . I dont no if switch is bad or if i leaked out ? What should i do ?
You need a pressure gauge or hvac manifold set. I have personally seen very few pressure switches fail, they are usually doing their job in my opinion. It you don't have power passing through then you could have a refrigerant leak and that is what is your real problem. You might have the age old problem everyone dreads...just low freon!
@@johnjennings487 3 years ago it took 4 lbs . 2 years ago 1 lb. Last year it didn't want any . I think the Caps had been bad awhile and might of finished off Compressor . Or freon filter rusted to much up and leaked ? Thank U
i installed my 10000 btu window backup .
