  • An Indian film has portrayed the gruelling journey of Sagarika Chakraborty, an Indian mother who fought a months-long legal battle for custody of her children against the Norwegian child welfare service Barnevernet.
The controversial child protection service is facing criticism for tearing families apart and putting children into foster care on flimsy pretexts.

As a Norwegian, I can confirm that our children's welfare services here are not a good organization.
Instead of helping overwhelmed parents through education and in-home help to fix problems, they swoop in, take the children, and put them in foster care.
Even if there are relatives who are capable of being foster care for the children, that is denied. So instead of remaining with your family where you are loved, they'd rather put you with strangers who do it for money, who don't actually care about you, or worse, a group home institution full of kids with severe drug and behaviour issues, for a "clean break". Which should only really be an option if there are no family or friends who can step up. Or if the parents are truly irredeemable and incapable of changing abusive behaviour.
This is incredibly traumatizing for the children.
It's not only people who immigrate here who fear barnevernet. The Norwegian people also think it's a corrupt organization.
There are no checks and balances. The same people who are paid for each extraction of a child, are the ones who decides if they are removed. Which, obviously, creates a really disturbing power-dynamic where people are literally enriching themselves by ripping a kid from their home.
I hope movies like this will put pressure on my government to change. It's a travesty what's going on here.

I have good friends in Norway - a couple with one child. They had an awful neighbour. When their little girl was 7-8 years old, her mother reported the neighbour for beating and abusing his wife and his daughter whom my friends' daughter would sometimes play with. It had not been the first time, so she felt she had to do it and also encouraged the neighbour's wife to leave with her child. The man was very well connected though and said that my friends "would regret it" even though there had been no legal repercussions following the report. (He'd managed to pull a few strings.). Just a few days after his threat, the police showed up at their home asking about their little girl and handed them a summons from the "child protection agency". Luckily only the mother was home at the time as the father was just on his way to pick up their little girl. She called him and he told her to pack immediately because they had to leave the country. He knew all about how corrupt the "Barnevarnet" and the authorities were and that they would never see their child again. They left the country in less than 2 days, taking only the bare necessities with them (they even had to leave their beloved cat behind, who often went wandering off into the forests surrounding their house and couldn't be found) and their other neighbour and their lawyer told them that within 2 days of their flight in the night the "child protection agency" were back with a warrant to take their child off them. They spent months living with friends around Europe and then emigrated to a safer country overseas. The situation really is very bad and so many of these "child protection services" supply child trafficking networks and SRA groups with the children they tear out of the arms of loving parents and good homes under false pretexts and fake charges. It's utterly disgusting.

It's not just Norway, it's in Sweden as well. There was a Russian family there where the police and Child Protection Services took the Russian Couples child away from them like this for no reason. They managed to get the child back because the child escaped or something, and the whole family had to run for safety to Poland because the entire police force and CPS was after them like an army chasing a bunch of international terrorists. They took the matter to court in Poland and luckily given that the Poles and the Judge was conservative, he made a decision in the Russian Family's favour.
Also Sweden tolerates Child Marriage which makes Sweden a safe haven for any P***file. Don't go on holidays or don't take your children to neither Norway or Sweden for your own safety.

In Austria (do you count that as Western Europe), and it's starting up in Eastern Europe, in Bulgaria, now in Romania, partly encouraged with money from Norway (we draw a lot from the oil in the North Sea). In Prague about 8 years ago, Czechs demonstrated outside the Norwegian embassy, then went across the Charles Bridge into the Old Town, to the place where the "Norway Grants" kept office. They shouted: "Keep your money! Give us our children back!" But that was then.
As regards political philosophy, you'll find that all the parties in the Norwegian parliament (about 10 of them at the moment) are equally unwilling to see the truth and force a change. They are afraid - the CPS Barnevernet is a huge industry, partly public partly private, and people are very trustful of the authorities.

Removing children for such idiotic concerns and tearing children away from their families is crazy.
A family member of my best friend went through a similar situation. The daughter chose to wear a hijab to school and she was removed from her parents care and placed into the foster system as they argued she was being forced to wear it. When she was at the foster house, they forced her to take it off. It took her parents around 2-3 months to get her back.
Children are just being traumatised from these situations. I think that if you are an ethnic or religious minority, it isn't safe to raise children in these countries. If you're white, you have to align with what the state expects, regardless of the situation. It's disgusting.

I lived in Norway during my studies. It’s a beautiful place and looks very peaceful. I was single and all I did was studying, earning and enjoying. But I have and seen parents having anxiety “will my kids be taken by government if something goes down”. I wondered why are they so scared???
I love to visit Norway but I don’t love to live there. They have a system where they encourage others to spy and inform about neighbours. During my summer holidays I was working as a baby sitter in Norway and I remember I used to fill water to an empty Vodka bottle which I found in kitchen of the family I worked with. I am not a person who drinks even occasionally and I remember I cleaned that bottle several times to make the smell goes away. I always had that bottle with me during summer and I used to drink from it often to support the summer heat. I was playing with kids and a mother from neighbourhood came near our playing area from their side of the house.( most of houses in Norway has short gates and everyone can see everyone). The very same evening neighbour had called the family and said “ I think your baby sitter is an alcoholic, she was drinking vodka during the play time, your kids are not safe with her and you should explain things to her or otherwise I will have to inform the authorities”.
That was really funny I and I remembered we all laughed out loud in the evening. this is just one instance and I have seen many parents trying their best to be calm, patient and behave well around others and neighbours. it was really uncomfortable to feel that someone is watching us all the time.
With some social and family freedom, Norway is one of the best places to live.

Currently, on the flimsy excuse that Judges are doing 'circuits' due to understaffing, father's are not allowed to request a psychologist report through the Family Court, no matter the mental illness of the mother, which means the mothers still walk away with the child. If a woman tells the Court the father once raised his voice to her ( no matter what she'd said) it is called Domestic Abuse as if the woman has been assaulted! If the woman lies about this to the Court there is no consequence because the law was amended so such accusations are no longer prosecuted as perjury.
