Indian movie puts Norway's invasive childcare system in the spotlight

- An Indian film has portrayed the gruelling journey of Sagarika Chakraborty, an Indian mother who fought a months-long legal battle for custody of her children against the Norwegian child welfare service Barnevernet.
The controversial child protection service is facing criticism for tearing families apart and putting children into foster care on flimsy pretexts.

That's kidnapping not child care let the parents raise their children
As a Norwegian, I can confirm that our children's welfare services here are not a good organization.
Instead of helping overwhelmed parents through education and in-home help to fix problems, they swoop in, take the children, and put them in foster care.
Even if there are relatives who are capable of being foster care for the children, that is denied. So instead of remaining with your family where you are loved, they'd rather put you with strangers who do it for money, who don't actually care about you, or worse, a group home institution full of kids with severe drug and behaviour issues, for a "clean break". Which should only really be an option if there are no family or friends who can step up. Or if the parents are truly irredeemable and incapable of changing abusive behaviour.
This is incredibly traumatizing for the children.
It's not only people who immigrate here who fear barnevernet. The Norwegian people also think it's a corrupt organization.
There are no checks and balances. The same people who are paid for each extraction of a child, are the ones who decides if they are removed. Which, obviously, creates a really disturbing power-dynamic where people are literally enriching themselves by ripping a kid from their home.
I hope movies like this will put pressure on my government to change. It's a travesty what's going on here.

I have good friends in Norway - a couple with one child. They had an awful neighbour. When their little girl was 7-8 years old, her mother reported the neighbour for beating and abusing his wife and his daughter whom my friends' daughter would sometimes play with. It had not been the first time, so she felt she had to do it and also encouraged the neighbour's wife to leave with her child. The man was very well connected though and said that my friends "would regret it" even though there had been no legal repercussions following the report. (He'd managed to pull a few strings.). Just a few days after his threat, the police showed up at their home asking about their little girl and handed them a summons from the "child protection agency". Luckily only the mother was home at the time as the father was just on his way to pick up their little girl. She called him and he told her to pack immediately because they had to leave the country. He knew all about how corrupt the "Barnevarnet" and the authorities were and that they would never see their child again. They left the country in less than 2 days, taking only the bare necessities with them (they even had to leave their beloved cat behind, who often went wandering off into the forests surrounding their house and couldn't be found) and their other neighbour and their lawyer told them that within 2 days of their flight in the night the "child protection agency" were back with a warrant to take their child off them. They spent months living with friends around Europe and then emigrated to a safer country overseas. The situation really is very bad and so many of these "child protection services" supply child trafficking networks and SRA groups with the children they tear out of the arms of loving parents and good homes under false pretexts and fake charges. It's utterly disgusting.

All i can say is what the f*ck? How is this allowed? ANY family shouldn't be afraid of their children being taken away, this people are absolutely insane
It's not just Norway, it's in Sweden as well. There was a Russian family there where the police and Child Protection Services took the Russian Couples child away from them like this for no reason. They managed to get the child back because the child escaped or something, and the whole family had to run for safety to Poland because the entire police force and CPS was after them like an army chasing a bunch of international terrorists. They took the matter to court in Poland and luckily given that the Poles and the Judge was conservative, he made a decision in the Russian Family's favour.
Also Sweden tolerates Child Marriage which makes Sweden a safe haven for any P***file. Don't go on holidays or don't take your children to neither Norway or Sweden for your own safety.

He has been with alternative family so long that he no longer identified with his original mother. She lost her final appeal recently. It was a distressing story.

Same with a Polish family, apparently having more than 2 kids was considered an abusive environment and i don't recall if it was just a mother or a mother and father had the kids taken away. I am happy that someone is bringing this to the public eye at least, but the situations are terrible.
I saw this movie yesterday alongside searching this case, its history and than looking into Barnevernet dealings and literally at some points I got tears in my eyes for reasons, evidences and justifications of taking children from parents and as mentioned in this short documentary, in the movie it was proven by lawyer that case workers had little experience with biasing reviews. It was only Indian government support, especially Indian foreign minister Sushma Swaraj (RIP) and scrutiny, which rebounded children with Sagarika otherwise Norway which advocates for children rights is actually committing children abuse
They do not need any experience, only kids. It is a barbaric practice robbing children from vulnerable families.

In Austria (do you count that as Western Europe), and it's starting up in Eastern Europe, in Bulgaria, now in Romania, partly encouraged with money from Norway (we draw a lot from the oil in the North Sea). In Prague about 8 years ago, Czechs demonstrated outside the Norwegian embassy, then went across the Charles Bridge into the Old Town, to the place where the "Norway Grants" kept office. They shouted: "Keep your money! Give us our children back!" But that was then.
As regards political philosophy, you'll find that all the parties in the Norwegian parliament (about 10 of them at the moment) are equally unwilling to see the truth and force a change. @@TullaRask How telling the difference between 2 cultures can be called as forcing my views on you. Norway is the one who is not respecting the other cultures. It cannot say that only western culture is good and must be followed by Asians. Everything should be analysed on case to case basis. You can surely apply the same laws outside of the house but not inside the House. Raising children by western style can easily be considered as bad parenting in India.
As someone on the autistic spectrum, this video makes me feel scared for all the autistic parents in Norway. One could definitely imagine that there are fit, well-adjusted parents, but because of some mannerisms normal for someone on the spectrum, their kids are taken away
In Australia police arrived at our front door to seize children based on an anonymous statement. The only problem for the police was there were no children to demand. It's that ludicrous. The people processing just has to be feed regardless of the reality. What some will do to others just for a pay check!
I don’t even live in Norway but i hear too many stories! For example, a Syrian refugee family had their children snatched away from in the spot while they were playing in the playground right in front of their home. You can’t tell me that this isn’t kidnapping because they absolutely had 0 evidence against those parents and even tried to bring up the fact that the family might “force” islam onto them which is still a ridiculous reason to take away these children without hardcore evidence.
Wow, so children cannot follow the religion of their parents. What a jahil and haremzod ppl these Norwegians are
I'm from Lithuania and it's well known here that if you take you're family to Scandinavian countries, there's a good chance the government there will take the kids away due to some BS reason.

This is by far Norway's biggest shame.
Mrs Chakravarti wasn't lucky to have Indian Government support. She is an Indian citizen, the Government is constitutionally bound to support her and treat the taking away of her child as kidnapping by foreign government
She is considered lucky in comparison to other families who faced similar problems like her but were not Indian. A Norwegian family suffering from the same will not have the same support as her. So that why she was lucky.
It is not only our government we have generations of families closely knitted together and if we ever get in problem we stand together
What about the other 36% affected families? Don't their governments exist? So she is lucky that the Indian government backed her, instead of the other governments who abandoned their citizens.

@@WebbedManiac the Indians who are educated, and talented enough to go abroad based on merit are generally open minded.
What are these people even getting for doing these horrible things to little infant and their parents. Having a child, being a father or a mother is a blessing. Snatching a child from the parents for self justification is horrific and unbearable.

India is a very happy country. It's children are surrounded and protected by 3-4 generations of family.
They are sensitive at all actually. Its a business

The threshold for separating a family and their child should be so extraordinarily high that no reasonable person could dispute when it occurs.
Im glad that Im living in India which gives more importance to traditional family values.
💯🙏 Same here. Our cultural ecosystem supports familial values and strong parental bonds with children that help/support them to become good world citizens. Education system is great too, which I learnt after having spoken with colleagues abroad in the west. So sad. The westrn social structure has collapsed with the ever increasing number of fatherless children, single mothers and broken families. Not to mention the elders dumped into old homes.
Instead of trying to revive the traditional family values, they are now targeting those who uphold such values. How painful it is for a mother to be separated from her children! May Allah reunite children abducted by the authorities with their parents.

I lived in Norway during my studies. It’s a beautiful place and looks very peaceful. I was single and all I did was studying, earning and enjoying. But I have and seen parents having anxiety “will my kids be taken by government if something goes down”. I wondered why are they so scared???
I love to visit Norway but I don’t love to live there. They have a system where they encourage others to spy and inform about neighbours. During my summer holidays I was working as a baby sitter in Norway and I remember I used to fill water to an empty Vodka bottle which I found in kitchen of the family I worked with. I am not a person who drinks even occasionally and I remember I cleaned that bottle several times to make the smell goes away. I always had that bottle with me during summer and I used to drink from it often to support the summer heat. I was playing with kids and a mother from neighbourhood came near our playing area from their side of the house.( most of houses in Norway has short gates and everyone can see everyone). The very same evening neighbour had called the family and said “ I think your baby sitter is an alcoholic, she was drinking vodka during the play time, your kids are not safe with her and you should explain things to her or otherwise I will have to inform the authorities”.
That was really funny I and I remembered we all laughed out loud in the evening. this is just one instance and I have seen many parents trying their best to be calm, patient and behave well around others and neighbours. it was really uncomfortable to feel that someone is watching us all the time.
With some social and family freedom, Norway is one of the best places to live.

Yes! You got it. Look at what’s happening in the U.S. The left cannot have children because it’s two men nor two women trying to reproduce. Obviously they can’t. So they pay money to get a baby from surrogate, adoption agencies etc. Which is expensive in the long run. They realize this and now indoctrinate kids from a traditional home. Talking about sexual performance to minors etc.
they don't deserve to have a family as well...👎👎👎
I think this is because of the difference in perspective. Since family structure continues to deteriorate in Europe and they (The government of that country) view every family from their own perspective even if other families are of different ethnicity and culture. On top of that, they tried to make a new industry out of this situation.
Scandinavian... i have a feeling they are overdoing everything.
Maybe they are rich etc...
But I always have the feeling they are cold and following the rules without using their heart and common sence sometimes.
I agree that divorce is better than to live in an abusive relationship.
Not overdoing... they are cold-hearted people aka robot
Same here in Australia. I’ve witnessed multiple times how social workers tried to lead the person to say something so they can have a case
Sadly this has happened again in Germany now. An Indian couple are seeking custody of their daughter back from her foster home. Germany has flimsy grounds for taking the child away so they're delaying proceedings to outlast the statute of limitation.
Sad
Which couple? Are you taking about the child ariha Shah? That child was a victim of sexual abuse by the grandparents.
It's ridiculous when they remove the children that don't need to be removed but don't remove the children that should be removed. I was one of the children that needed their help but didn't get it. I live in Sweden and what I've heard from people about the social services is usually that they don't help enough, so this video is showing me the complete opposite side of the spectrum.
Just finished watching this movie and so glad they are speaking up! Norway, all eyes are on you, but for all the wrong reasons now.
I have stayed in Sweden and heard of auch stories evwn there remember once.. A Swedish neighbor who was a single mom was terrified and feeling very embarrassed coz her toddler was weeping and rolling on the floor of our apartment lift coz he wanted something but she cudnt react or say anything to him probably because she had a fear if she did react in someway tat seemed harsh to me i might make a complaint.. I didn't realise that then but now when i look back and especially when I have a toddler myself i can very well imagine the situation of tat mother..🙁🙁

the bond of a mother with their Child in India is considered to be the holiest. No power in the world can keep them separated no matter how corrupt & strong they are. To even imagine that government or some organization can decide better for the kids instead of their own mothers is absolutely unthinkable.
This is one of the most horrendous human rights violations I heard and happening in daylight. Only now, I got aware of this. Since my childhood, I always thought that living standards in some of the foreign countries are better than in India. But considering the happenings all over the world, I'm gradually changing my mind that my home is far better.
Confusing "living standards" with "consumerism driven data" is the major cause of this. And every nation has its fair share of problems.
The same situation happens in Sweden unfortunately

Indeed, most of these social workers don't have children themselves - everything they know is in theory from text books. I made a complaint about that. They are all academic, and too far removed from the parenting experience.
Hahaaa.. superb comments..really makes sense
Norway is on the spot now. We the world are looking at how they respond
New Zealand's 'Family Courts' do all of these things too. Most father's lose custody and access to their children for no real reason. Currently, on the flimsy excuse that Judges are doing 'circuits' due to understaffing, father's are not allowed to request a psychologist report through the Family Court, no matter the mental illness of the mother, which means the mothers still walk away with the child. If a woman tells the Court the father once raised his voice to her ( no matter what she'd said) it is called Domestic Abuse as if the woman has been assaulted! If the woman lies about this to the Court there is no consequence because the law was amended so such accusations are no longer prosecuted as perjury.
