Thanks for doing this. I’m not new to DJ equipment. In fact I’ve owned either turntables or a controller for over 20 years. Despite this I’m just now wanting to play music for others and for the past few weeks I’ve been trying to ask this.
How do Dj’s craft sets (pick songs to chain together).
? I’m not talking about BPM; but more so I’m talking about the flow and energy from one song to the next. The primary genre of music I’ll be playing will be hip Hop RnB reggae funk and soul.
For some their answer will be, “The crowd will dictate the songs” but that’s not the aim of the question. I’m looking for how they would dictate the flow internally and without a crowd to read or what they as a DJ default to. A great example could be a mix tape or when I’m djing I try to….
Shhhiiiiddd, is there a better way to ask this question?
