People really did exaggerate about how “ugly” the original PS5 was, although they also gotta stop this strategy of making the disc version deformed so people can buy digital. Thought it looked good (enough). It looks way better than the slim. I also really hate that curve they did on the black part of the slim.
I think they flattened it that way to make it impossible for someone to put the PS5 horizontally without using the kickstand. Seeing how many people placed their PS5's horizontally without actually using the stand, I kinda get it. I really like the look of the original; it's a genuine piece of neofuturist design that I think is really cool. The Slim feels like it's trying to refine that design with some concessions to make it more practical for real-world use, but these weird design elements like the two-tone finish on the side panels really ruin it.

The PS5 slim doesn't look that much different than the original PS5. Sony has always made their slim versions look different from the launch consoles. PS4 slim looked pretty different compared to launch PS4 just like how PS3 slim was much more different looking than the launch PS3.

Slim models have always been cheaper and less premium. They usually improve the hardware inside though and its more efficient and runs cooler.
