awesome video, I had a dsi xl 25th anniversary edition growing up and played on it for so many hours,i broke it a couple years ago and just recently got a normal dsi for old times sake, I also got into collecting the other 2 ds models!

About the ds phat, im not sure how common this was but i had 2 of the touchscreens fail (touch dead, screen itself fine* further showing how rushed it was

Yeah, no idea what they were thinking with the OG DS. It's not a great design. That being said, the layout of the system's top half-- with the speakers angled toward the player- give the OG DS the best sound of any DS variant. The DS virtual surround sound really only worked on the OG model and nobody ever talks about it.
The top half reminds me of that really huge gaming laptop with the curved monitor
I swear on New Super Mario Bros I had a glitched game where I could use an infinite amount of mushroom houses. I don't know how that happend, but I thought it was suppose to do that until many years later.
i know that the prices for the 3ds are crazy but if you manage to get all the models of 3ds will you do the video about the 3ds ?

I still have my launch phat DS and it didn’t come with a telescopic stylus, it came with 2 regular stylus(pretty cheaply made)
I got mine second hand so it probably did come with a different stylus who knows

4:42 Using the thumbpad on the original wrist-strap (which I see you have) on the touchscreen fixes the control issue in Super Mario 64DS.

The thumbpad seen at the top of the screen @0:57 goes on your left thumb, slide the adjuster thingy so its tight. Then use it on the touchscreen.

7:43 it wasn’t so much with kids. The build quality on the ds hinge is awful and most people who work on repairing ds’ share them. One cylinder of metal holds the whole hinge on and that same piece was prone to damaging the plastic around it which caused the hinge to fail, it was also prone to cutting the ribbon that went through it which would kill the ds since the ds doesn’t turn on if the top screen can’t boot. In the case of my ds the metal part wore down the plastic which broke off while opening it and eventually the ribbon got damaged because of the metal piece which caused my DS to stop booting up.
Huh.. I always thought the original DS was built like a tank. Not that it feels great in the hands but it certainly doesn’t feel like it would break easily.

Get a new original DS NTR-001 model. Guaranteed it doesn't feel cheap and hollow. Got a titanium one NIB for Christmas last year and I can say this thing is so nice when it's not beat up like your pink one. Also yours has some weird backlight bleeding issues. Seems the gasket around the screens has failed sometime in the past 18 years. May have had repair work done in the past. It is super common to have "loose LCDs" after doing a repair. I have a few DS Lites in the past and I can say that it seems easier to crack and break the plastic a lot easier (cough hinge cough) than it is on the original NTR-001. Screens are miles better than OG DS too. However when it comes to brightness on/off for NTR-001, the brightness off shows that the screens in sunlight or direct light are reflective similar to that of the GBC/OG GBA. So playing outside, say camping trip, the battery life almost doubles with brightness off. A lot easier to see in sun than DS Lite. My reasons for preferring the NTR-001. 1. It is comfortable to hold because it's fat. 2. Durability. I have dropped NTR-001 quite a ton with no repercussions. (Not my brand new one obviously) 3. I bikepack and ride everywhere. Always outdoors. That backlight off is a game changer for outdoors people. 4. I like that my GBA games don't stick out like a turd I can't push out fully... (Cough Lite cough) Anyways great video. Subbing to you for sure. Hope I made a decent case for the NTR-001 lovers out there.
Yeah tbh, I never really had much experience with the OG model until I got my own. I have two of them now, one pink and one silver, and they both feel like this so yeah. I was mostly comparing the feel to the DS Lite, which even my horribly beat one from my childhood still has a better feel but honestly it's pretty subjective at that point
@@frokfrdk Also the empty space behind the top screen "the buldge" when it's closed, provides a good deal of protection to the top screen for impacts. I remember 2006 or so always carrying my DS in my pocket and taking MANY slams on my skateboard and the DS took it like a champ. The DS Lite's top screen is much closer to the plastic on the lid, resulting in poorer impact protection. I remember my friend had a Lite (we were all skaters) and he was stuck playing GBA games only using the bottom screen. His top screen was pretty toast. He now STILL has that Lite and recently did the GameBoy Macro mod to it and it looks AWESOME! :) But you're right, totally subjective, just figured I'd throw some punches from the OG DS in the ring for the chonky boy. @@frokfrdk Exactly man! :) I own every model of DS, some multiples with different mods and have yet to get the "Toast" 2DS to finish off my 3DS hardware collection. I don't want that one tbh. My OG DS from Xmas '04 has been with me and my bike for HUNDREDS of miles riding. Any weather. When home, I grab the DSi XL for the crispy pixel perfect DS game charm.

The 3DS is good, the original ones did not have eye tracking which made the pretty good 3D effect fall apart as soon as you moved your head. And tbh I played mostly with the 3D off even when I was younger
@@frokfrdk yeah i agree the old 3ds wasnt the best and i also didnt really use it as a kid because i ususally played pokemon but i think its really impressive what they managed to do with the 3d, if the 3ds had eye tracking on the og model it would of been insane
