  • If you are trying to learn how to sew, chances are you have discovered PDF Sewing Patterns! PDF Sewing Patterns are a wonderful invention, as they let us get new patterns from the comfort of our own home, and digital patterns make it much easier for designers to offer free sewing patterns.
    In this video, I will teach you how to print pdf sewing patterns, how to assemble pdf patterns, and finally the easiest ways to cut out pdf patterns. I might be bias, but I think this is the best way to assemble pdf patterns, as it is quick and easy, and require less tools, so there is less fumbling around. It is also easy to correct any mistakes you might make while assembling.

    Today was the first time I ever downloaded a pattern (30 pages) and had no idea what to do next! The instructions are clear about how to sew the pattern but nothing on how to put the PDF pattern pieces together! Thank you so much!

    This folding technique is a game changer thank you! I also saw another CZcamsr, where to cut the perfect size pattern, measure yourself and "trace" or "add" where you'd need to adjust (you may have a medium size waist, but your hips may be a large size, for instance), so after you finish sewing your piece, it fits correctly. A lot of times we tend to just cut the size because we are small, medium, etc. size, but when you finish it doesn't fit in certain areas. Most of us are not an exact size, so this is an adjustment to think about before we cut the final piece of the pattern. I am tall legged, so most patterns I must add a few inches; I normally wear a 34" inseam length, especially if it is dress pants and wear high heels! And I also loved the way to store these types of patterns, G-E-N-I-U-S!!! I've seen these actually at Dollar Tree! ;-)

    This is really helpful as I'm just starting with PDF patterns! Thank you. The one thing I discovered that made my life easier was that I got a weighted tape dispenser at Staples, the kind that just uses the tape rolls like you would see in a office, for 10 bucks. for me, I found it to be easier to pull off the tape needed instead of fiddling with a little plastic tape dispensers. Added bonus, the weighted dispenser helps keep my patterns in place while I tape them!

    I was at a lost. I was racking my brain on why my sewing pattern was not printing at the correct size. I measured everything correctly on Adobe but for the life of me could not get it to print the correct size. But when I saw your video, you stated some printers would need to be changed on the advanced. I did that and it worked. My sewing pattern is now at the correct size when printed. I am so glad I found your video, it helped me out tremendously. Thank you for all of your tips to help us out here.

    Oh my gosh, this was so helpful! I have about 6 patterns downloaded, 1 printed out and then... That's where it all came to an end. I have used envelope patterns or made them up on my own. This was so foreign and intimidating for me, so I basically gave up. That's not true to my nature, but technology has not been something I'm good at. I would blame my age, but I was just stubborn about it and then became overwhelmed.
    You just made this so comfortable for me and I feel really confident about giving it a try. I have a question about copying the pattern, prior to cutting it out. Hopefully this makes sense- I normally copy my tissue pattern and then fold it up and return to envelope. I do this so that I always have the range of sizes. Do you think that's a possibility with printed pdf ones?
    Thank you for explaining this in such a wonderful way.
    With joy,
    Audri

    • @_commonthread
      @_commonthread  Před 6 měsíci

      Not a dumb question at all! I have had to do the same when making multiple sizes of the same item for my kids. What I do is assemble one pattern, and then use tracing paper, or tissue paper from the dollar store works too, to trace over the separate sizes. If I plan on using more sizes eventually, I’ll keep the big master pattern in tact and just create patterns of each individual size using the tracing paper.
      Does that make sense?
