      PTK is NOT "indigenous pure Filipino art" as GM gaje claims.... GT Gaje said his pekiti tirsia started 1897 BUT if you ask Eskrimadors and historians from Negros Island like James U. Sy Jr and Rene Tongson amd Samuel A. Ibe, Gm Jerson tortal jr (his nephew, by the way GM jerson tortal Sr is GM gaje’s uncle), Celestino Macachor of Cebu, and ex-pupil Daniel Foronda (on FB you can contact them to verify), pekiti is a mix of Tortal family arnis, Lapulapu vinas arnis, Momoy canetes spada y daga and Indonesian silat by Eddie jaffri. Due to marketing and exoticiization to promote pure Kali to foreigners GT gaje marketed it as such...when in fact all Arnis styles like Pekiti Tirsia Arnis (yes the former name) have Spanish roots
      There is definitely a Spanish connection to FMA evidenced in the Spanish loanwords like contradas, abecedario, baston, daga etc. That is why do NOT believe in Jay Bataclan, Mick Alcaraz, GT Gaje's claims that ptk is "indigenous pure Kali without Spanish influence" which is Not true. the guys i mentioned spread fake news on PTV 4, CNN Philippines and Abs CBN La Luna Sangre, Not everybody is uto-uto (gullible) ; Many on The Filipino Martial Arts Forum on FB knows the PTK myths perpetuated by Gaje, Bataclan, etc. Even the Urduja Kali princess portrayed by JULIA SAUBIER promoted by
      Academy of Survival arts is a MYTH debunked by PH Historian Ambeth Ocampo of Ateneo de Manila University.
      it is necessary to Expose the truth like what Daniel Foronda did mumbakki.wordpress.com/2012/09/30/filipino-martial-arts-two-most-common-questions/ - so well meaning people who will study FMA are NOT manipulated/deceived by marketing and exotization...By the way you can contact GM Dionisio Canete on FB, he trained with GT Gaje also, so the Doce Pares sinawalis carried over to PTK, just watch their videos...

      @TundrahSounds Před 3 lety +7

      No. Its not a waste of time to practice better physical abilities. It’s only a problem if you don’t know how, when and where to use it. But yes, over focusing on it, can be a huge waste of time. The good thing about getting older and less athletic, is that everything you do counts even more, and have to have the best effect. Older people usuallyhave the advantage of knowledge and experience. Young people usually have more of a physical advantage. In stick fighting it’s possible the peak years are even later than let’s say boxing. But that’s also because boxing destroys your brain early, if you’re not a great defensive boxer like Mayweather. Stick fighters usually never fight without a lot of protective gears, and are not knocking each other out.

      It was literaly kali 101 to dive head on if you are fighting another person with a weapon and you are disarmed. Dont let them have that space to swing the weapon. Of course, in real life you would run away but the option is there as a desparate measure.

  • @ememe1412
    @ememe1412 Před 2 dny

    In any of these sparring situations, the hand drill flows do not come together. They won't. The practical building block of arnis is on the footwork. Here, i see no strategic sense in the younger guy's footwork. Why would you circle towards the weapon's arm? If your angle is cut off, your opponent has the full swing and reach of his weapon. The circling movement should be at angles towards the weaponless arm so your angle cannot be cut without either exposing their weapons arm or delaying their riposte by the fraction of the second you need to step off their range. Even when withdrawing from a rush, you do not do it linearly or you will run out of blocks or in this case the weapon hand is smothered and disarmed. Why are the masters not teaching these basics of footwork and concentrating instead on static drill exchanges? Arnis/Eskrima (never heard of Kali in the Islands until Phil-Ams coined the term in the US.) of the type I saw in the Philippines in the 80s or the Novaliches style I was shown in the early 90s bear anymore resemblance to what I see today.
