    If this is recreating the Spanish vs Philippines during the pre-colonial period, the FMA guy would be carrying a giant wooden shield and the sword would be a bit longer.

      Or not even a sword but a spear lol. But this is after Spanish influence.

    you can't have your rapier all the time, but sometimes you can carry a machete (for farming) and dagger (concealed) for everyday use

      The weapon you call Rapier is a socalled smallsword ( In german, i am german, Rapier, smallsword, fencing epee and Duel epee is called Degen). It was used from about 1680 to 1800 as civilian weapon for selfdefence, Duel and as a sign, the wearer is an important man. Nobleman, rich citizen or important official.

      @@brittakriep2938 can you bring it to the streets right now? without looking like a crazy man? you can carry a machete/bolo in the ph because people can call you a farmer or a laborer, but can you use that rapier right now and walk around the street?

      @@seanskre1717 : Excuse me, i misinterpreted your comment. Carrieing a dagger ( weapon only) is in Germany generally forbidden, and for a fixed blade knife with a blade over 12 cm ( about 4.5") you must have a good reason. Machetes are in Germany no traditional/ common tool, and also with a traditional billhook ( Hippe/ Gertel) you can get problems, because this Tool is today No more widely used and often even unknown to more and more urbanized Population.

    Watching this reminds me of a book I read a long time ago called Phule's Company written by Robert Aspirin. There was a competition in it where a fencer fights a guy that knows Escrima. I was studying Arnis de Mano at the time, and thought it was cool, because it was the first time I had seen that art described in a book, and I could tell that the author had some experience with it. Really good read.

    It’s interesting because it’s hard to angle on him or close the distance BUT you very likely wouldn’t die as soon as stabbed you. After he stabbed you, it’s very likely that you would close the distance and slice him to bits. If he stabbed you fatally, you’d probably both die. Terrible. I can’t think of any silver lining.

    If you will set up a fight like this, HEMA will always come up on top because it was designed for dueling. However, irl, you cannot bring a weapon like that to work or school which makes FMA ideal as u can you used everything.

    • @daxmafesi
      @daxmafesi  Před 3 měsíci

      First off Bolos where used as dueling weapons. In a duel you would have the same weapon so this is just a fun exercise not simulating a duel.

    • @daxmafesi
      @daxmafesi  Před 3 měsíci

      Secondly… FMA focuses on stick and Bolos. You can’t carry that anywhere. Sure it sometimes covers other things but HEMA has the knife fencing and things like blackjacks, saps etc

    Where is the lateral movement commonly associated with Arnis / escrima? They are just western fencing using Filipino weapons vs rapier.. Arnis/escrima drew heavily from western fencing.. but not the sport fencing Olympic style linear advance and retreat.. the old fashion western combative fencing.. a lot of angling and circling movements..
