- After the October 7th attack, Israel vowed to eradicate Hamas and began its counteroperation in Gaza. Now, after nine months of war, a hostage crisis, and an increasing death toll, Israel and Hamas have been in negotiation talks, which could be complicated by the death of Hamas’s political leader Ismail Haniyeh. Should Israel agree to a permanent ceasefire? Those who think Israel should make peace with Hamas argue that while Hamas’s actions are indefensible, a de-escalation of violence is necessary, and conditions in Gaza need to be improved to prevent starvation and further loss of life. Those who believe Israel should not back down say that Hamas’s desire to kill Israelis will never change regardless of any deal created. They also point out that past ceasefires have been used by Hamas to rearm and regroup, which could happen again and lead to more conflicts.

The discussion in this war is absurd. First.
Israel acted selflessly to live in peace with the Palestinians in Gaza. It was more than a decade ago when Israel itself relocated thousands of individuals living in Gaza with lethal force from their homes to follow the agreement, which obligated the Palestinians in return to stop any kind of aggression towards Israel. The Palestinians had the chance to build a safe, functional, and prosperous livelihood. But the first thing the Palestinians did in return was to elect a government that enshrined the goal of destroying Israel in their constitution. The elected government followed through with its promise. Since its founding, thousands of rockets have flown into Israel. Dozens of civilians died in terrorist attacks. Millions of aid funds - intended for civilian purpose - were misused to build rockets, tunnels, and other nonsense. The crimes committed on October 7th like raping women, killing children, or kidnapping a baby, was Humus has been doing for years. Secondly. Israel behaved more humanely in this conflict than any other conceivable party in any imaginable conflict. It allowed Palestinians to work in Israel, receive medical care or even migrate into their country. During war, they warn civilians where their military is operating. They admit collateral damage and apologize for it. They saved Sinwar’s life giving him a lethal brain surgery. They treated the daughter of Haniyyas daughter for her complex disease in Israel. While Humus was building rockets and tunnels with all the foreign aid, Israel supplied their civilians with free water and electricity. The situation is clear. In no other conflict the responsibility for the suffering has been so one sided and clear - in no other conflict have the perpetrators been held accountable so weakly. The same goes for any related conflict: Hezbollah, Houthis, etc…the more peacefully you try to live with them, the more visible their genocidal intents becomes.
People with voice and power who claim to reject war have the duty to unequivocally name the culprit of this war and do everything in their power to eliminate them. Everything else is responsibility for the resulting suffering and will extend it.

He parrots this assertion throughout the debate, utterly refusing to acknowledge at any point that there are scenarios when the nature of an enemy is such that foregoing force and negotiating for peace is not a feasible option (which should at least be a starting point for both sides of this issue, regardless of your position). One flaw in Cenk Uygur's reasoning concerning how Egypt that couldn't make peace with Israel in the 1950s and 1960s was that Nasser was the leader of Egypt in that period. But when Anwar Sadat became president of Egypt in the 1970s, although his Egypt attacked Israel in October 1973, Sadat was able to change and become a peacemaker with Israel in 1977-81 until he was assasinated, which proved that the islamists in Egypt represented by the "Muslim Brotherhood". An islamist ideology that Hamas is a part of and President Erdogan of Turkey and his ruling AKP party. Cenk Uygur's home country Turkey committed a "genocide" against 1,5 million Christian Armenians in eastern Turkey during World War 1, especially in 1915.

I don't see how Israel can negotiate with a group who's one and only goal is Israel's destruction.
Israel has shown on many occasions that they are able and willing to negotiate. But they also want their enemies to know that if they insist on violence, then the violence they get back in return will be 100 times worse.

Palestinian leadership has fundamentally been incapable of agreeing to and abiding by the sine qua non of ANY peace deal with Israel, recognizing it fully and renouncing any attempt, violent or not, to destroy it, in whole or part. A peace deal in which Palestinians refused to agree to this would be pointless and ridiculous.
