As good as this set is, it's disappointing that we're getting a $200 great hall set, and yet the actual hall interior is very small and compromised.
Yes! Especially considering you are supposed to combine the advent calendar HP 2024 into this build. I wonder where it Will fit?
@@EACI00i think you're supposed to change it out, I may be wrong
@@jaydenwilkinson2827 yes probably. It Will just be a Good marketing strategy from Legos side, but i like the idea of it
I think it's safe to say that The Great Hall Peaked in 2018. The inside had 4 tables with at least 1 bench each and a table with chairs for the professors.
Dude deserves way more likes. This guy is my favorite youtuber
Aw thank you ❤️
so true!!!
15:16 The paper says “asphodel + wormwood = ???,” which is a reference to one of the questions Professor Snape asks Harry in the first potions class.
Fun fact about that quote, if you translate the asphodel and wormwood using the Victorian Flower Calendar (I think that’s what you use), it roughly means “I bitterly regret your mother’s death” (because asphodel is a lily).
This set feels like it came out in 2008 but with updated pieces. They didn't overcomplicate it, this is so damn playable.
This is by far the best lego youtuber
Don't disrespect Jang like that
14:38 it could've been a Slytherin common room, just for the joke that it is in the dungeons while a troll was goofing around in the dungeons 😅
i think they are focusing on scenes rather than combinations this is pure philosophers stone same as the boathouse whereas owlery was goblet of fire
I'm definitely gonna switch the bathroom out with a MOC kitchen inspired by the kitchen in Legacy. I love that they actually put Hufflepuff common room in the right place.
Already excited to see what comes next in this wave.
They'll obviously have to have a tower build attached to the Great Hall so here's what I think could be on it:
Second floor: Dumbledore's Office, or Gryffindor Boy's Dormitory.
First floor: Gryffindor Common Room or just the entrance way to it with the Fat Lady (maybe it's double sided with Sir Cadogan on the other)
Ground Floor: The main staircase (rotating feature, & paintings) or maybe the bathroom entrance to the chamber of secrets (I say since that area is a very round set piece, unlike the boxy set we had before)
Underground: Chamber of secrets, or just maybe a part of the Hogwarts kitchens with a few elves. If they can do the Hufflepuff common room that isn't even shown in the books, they can do the kitchens which are.
And since we got a potions classroom build, it would be great to get a Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom. Prisoner of Azkaban would be my pick for inspiration, I mean look at the dvd interactive tour: czcams.com/video/jLQu1mQ7gZg/video.htmlfeature=shared
There's so much to draw from: boggart builds, wardrobe, dragon skeleton, skulls of dark creatures.
Top notch, I've been looking forward to your review of this one and you did not disappoint
Thank you very much ☺️
Awesome video Ashnflash! 🎉
That witch hat and hair piece… there’s hope for Gandalaria from Ninjago Dragons Rising!
Great vid. Absolutely fantastic
This set is absolutely gorgeous ❤
Am I the only one who thinks the minifigure selection is a little bit random?
Like we get Professor Vector (Arithmancy teacher and, to my knowledge, Harry never saw in person, only mentioned once by Ron), Leanne (friend of Katie Bell who was with her when she touched the cursed necklace and was never seen again. Didn't even know she was a Hufflepuff, always assumed she was a Gryffindor, too), Daphne Greengrass (mentioned exactly once, when Harry was taking O.W.Ls. For some reason her younger sister is Malfoy's deceased wife in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), Terry Boot (member of Dumbledore's army, just a random background character who never does anything notable) and the Fat Friar (Hufflepuff ghost who, correct me if I'm wrong, had a short scene of dialogue in the first book and was never seen again).
I guess they wanted all four houses to be represented and to have a different teacher and ghost than they would normally. But did they have to do that in the same set? Like, it would be cool if we got Professor Vector and the Fat Friar in this set, and then we got, say, Ernie MacMillan, Pansy Parkinson and Cho Chang - all much more notable characters whilst not being overused - and got Daphnee, Leanne and Terry in different sets.
The focus may be on introducing many new characters in the biggest new sets so that old fans feel tempted to buy it for the figures, despite owning a version of Hogwarts already
@@lordmawkish1286That explains why we have been getting obscure characters who only appear in the background like Professor Sinistra, the astronomy teacher, in the Hogwarts Chamber of Secrets set, and Madam Pince, the librarian, in the Hogwarts Dumbledore’s office set. They may be random characters, but it is still great to get them, especially when they might figures like those so much detail for characters we only see in the background.
it might be focusing more on the books than the movies
The irony with the books.
Daphne is very very popular…due to fanon because she’s a blank slate (which means fanfiction writers can do anything) and from what Lego has done they went with the popular blonde hair which is popular with her being the “Slytherin ice queen”
@@c3gfboy7 Basically, because of her blonde hair. At least more characters are being added to the LEGO Harry Potter lineup, even if they use reused parts.
Awesome video ashnflash 😊
I totally plan on modding the Hufflepuff Common Room. I'm a Hufflepuff, and would love to expand it into a display piece.
Ya I might as well. I’m gonna try to make the barrel door 💛🖤
I'm a Slytherin
@@Ashnflash Will we see the ninjago sets soon?
I'm planning on switching the bathroom out with a kitchen.
@@JutlandAngel It only makes sense given the geography of the castle.
Oh yes, this is my favorite director of Hogwarts
Double door
Ash. You have become the number one LEGO CZcamsr. Keep up the amazing work buddy!
Actually, even though Ashnflash makes the best content, he is really underrated and he doesnt have that many subs and on the other hand, another youtuber who doesnt try that much , TD bricks has 4M.
This set looks fantastic great detail nice new box design 👍
Glad you like it!
Amazing set
Ive been waiting for a dark orange robe minifigure for such a long time now to complete my collection!!!!! And theres a light grey one too for another project of mine!
A little late to the party, but Thank You for this review! Very thorough and informative. (And kinda hate to say it, but you just saved me $200 and a lot of buyer's remorse.)
Also checked out some of your other vids, and you have a new subscriber now! Thank you!
Awesome! Will we see the ninjago sets soon?
This is one set ill save up for
Trully amazing
I like the huffelpuff rom i am also a hufel puff but i think its really easy to bild a wall whit some green in it
The first canonical appearance of the hufflepuff common room was drawings in an article on pottermore
I’m going off of the BTS stuff for that game, the developers talked about how the Wizarding World people let them come up with the first ever design 🤷♂️
My thoughts are that they’ll do a 2nd half of the great hall, but have the tower with it and below will be similar to this where it will have the extra space for the dark arts classroom so you don’t have to pick and choose.
This is great lego is doing this new line of hogwarts sets. But who else is tapped out after collecting the last 6 years worth of hogwarts castles if i get these now what do i do with the last two castle systems honeslty. I dont know i think lego should of put the theme up on the shelve for a few years before doing something like this but thats my opinon, great review ash.
Super cool.😎👍
It's too expensive for me 😭😭
I think this is a great set also for people who like to add their own additions. I know for me I want to add lanterns around the walkway of the Great Hall, and I can see people making their own Hogwarts Kitchens to slide under the Great Hall!
With the Fat Friar minifigure, we now need the Bloody Baron one to complete the Hogwarts House ghosts. Some of the characters in this set are quite obscure, like Leanne (Katie Bell’s friend), Professor Vector, Daphne Greengrass, and Terry Boot. Daphne and Terry didn’t have casted actors in the movies.
However Daphne is so popular in fanon because of 2 words:
Blank slate.
New era for Lego
That cave is swole 💪 damn those arms lolly
Oh so beautiful, I really like it, but do you have any lego food?
Like the set, but can't say that I love the new type of box, nostalgia I guess
I love that they gave us a rock base, but honestly the great hall it self im not too sure about. Might incorporate the old great hall onto the base.
The fact that there isn't a podium is a real bummer. Other than that the set looks good :)
It'll be interesting to see what they do next for the castle, I'm happy with my 2018 version though. They really need to give this kind of treatment to making a detailed Minas Tirith!
I am liking this new style but I also have the 2018-2020 sets.
Maybe someone on Rebrickable will combine that old wave with this new one and make something amazing, since both waves use the gray roofs
Does this new great hall set fit well with the 2018-2022 castle set?
they removed the great hall arches, this doesnt look good to me
Thanks for the review. p.s. the Hufflepuff common room was first shown in the Lego HP 1-4 game, then Pottermore and the now defunct Playstation home network. It was also shown in Hogwarts Mystery long before Hogwarts Legacy.
Multiple of those games have no canon connection like Legacy. I’m going off of the BTS stuff for that game, the developers talked about how the Wizarding World people let them come up with the first ever design 🤷♂️
I saw a video where someone put all the Lego Hogwarts sets together to make the whole castle and now he has The Great Hall to add to it.
Good review but I miss old 4709, it's as if it was more soul and magic in it.
I want that troll 😂
Dude…. They are coming out with a second part of the great hall!!
That’s exactly what I thought seeing how we’ve got half the roof and 2 tables inside - it’s like they’re teasing the second part to it!
I’m so glad I never opened my chamber of secrets set. I’ll be returning that for this hall instead. I tried to fight the urge but it’s too good.
as much as i love this its got a similar problem most lego sets have theres very little depth to it you can barely get 3 or four teachers on the teachers table there should be enough room for 12 especially on the most detailed set ever
Im so excited to see the addons. This is awesome. I just wishci had the cash
Right!? I can’t wait to see it
This is going to be THE definite Hogwarts set once all parts come together to form the iconic castle silhouette.
I really really really want this set but I'm worried it might be *too* big
wow, it looks even better in a video than in the promo shots. The Hufflepuff common room looks awesome, sad about the sheer number of stickers though, they are getting really lazy with the 2x2 tiles on that front.
You just got yourself a new subscriber, sir 🫡
Thanks for subbing ☺️
Is this like the third Hogwarts great hall set in the past five years or so? they make so many harry potter sets I feel like Im going crazy asking myself if some of the sets are repeated.
it woul be nice if they pumped money into new unique sets as oppossed to making 10 remakes of one building every two years
It is annoying that Lego always makes the Richard Harris Dumbledore but never the Michael Gambon Dumbledore. There are two MG Dumbledore (RIP) and loads of RH Dumbledore (RIP). I hope we get more soon.
Is the Fat Friar technically the first minifig of a clergyman we’ve gotten?
Castle 2009 had a bishop minifig for the chess set.
There’s so many Hogwarts sets, how would one be able to put them all together to make the ultimate Hogwarts castle? 😨
16:26 ayo!
Why isn't the ghost glow in the dark like in the Chamber of Secrets set from 3 years ago?
I cannot wait to get this. I really didnt like the vibe of the modulars
How many great halls must we get?
Yo Ash, the hooks / pins inside the build - do you think something else might be attached in the next wave of expansions?
I can see them closing off the Great Hall perhaps on the other side. That’s why those reddish brown tiles are there.
But if I had to guess. The large tower with the rotating stairs and Dumbledore’s Office will be next year
@Ashnflash That's what I was thinking myself. Got to admit it's a great set. I'm going to be Homeless by the time I've assembled all the parts 🤣🤣
Ahahahha
The colors remember me so much of the 2018 castle, the figures are so tempting but my husband would kill me if we started another HP castle collection (my daughter has all the 2020/2024 HP Castle)
This is the most detailed Hogwarts Castle 😏
But yes, I 100% understand lol
I hope when this line nears the end LEGO dose a Ninjago city style hogwortgs that is minifigure scale and the best as possible
This set is already $200 and Ninjago City sets $350. I’d say this model and future expansions are on the same level as Ninjago City
Only other option is to go small with the $470 one from 2018 or the even smaller and better one from last year
They keep making the actual hall smaller. The first one still remains the best because there is actual space and all four tables. How can LEGO make a $200 great hall with only two tables? 🔥set but I wanted more hall.
I wish the main three kids weren't in this set because they're so common, but I understand it's likely a cost cutting measure
Funny, someone else said they’re glad all three kids are together in one set :P
I’m kind of disappointed that it’s just the regular candles instead of the Jack o lanterns which would’ve gone perfectly with the troll
How many bags does it have, Ashaflash?
12 baggs
16 bags
@@Ashnflash Thanks
That troll💀
are they still doing that system where you can connect hogwarts sets to others and make your own giant castle like the relaunch harry potter sets did
I believe there’s going to be specific connection points. But I do think you’ll be able to do your own thing still
Well know more next year
@@Ashnflash very weird if they suddenly change it, then again is this the first great hall set or did we already get one. I guess maybe thet are trying a scale down version of Hogwarts
I thought it would be so much smaller then I saw your hand against the box 😭
Right!?!?
I literally got the chamber of secrets, grand hall, classroom, and snake’s chamber with like 10 characters for only $120, originally $140. How is this thing that looks smaller $299? You’re telling me in 1 or so years this will only be $120, yeah, okay
Do we have to own any prior sets to join with this set
Just the Boathouse out front
I'm good. I have the 2023 system, and it suits me. I don't need another system. I can just buy the figs from this new system separately.
Yeah I still got the 2018 one and kinda prefer it over this one. Curious how this new system grows.
I prefer the classic troll's lack of ears.
4:20 Dumbledore?
Honestly, even though this thing is massive, I’m kinda disappointed with the scaling, especially with the rock work, but this could be due to the fact that I haven’t seen it in person, and usually videos don’t ever capture the size of things as well as in person, especially for Lego sets, anyways, my overall rating is a 8/10!
Gooood video ash
Thanks!!!
Looks okey the interior needs to be able to close I hate the half a building would have paid more for a wider hall with the 2 extra house tables and seats for the teachers overall I think the 2018 version is better personally 🤦♂️
It's pretty plain. The window details are very square, whole thing is really. Very boxy. Calling it the most detailed is kind of odd, looks pretty simple. It's not as good as the 2018 version. It is big but also expensive. Troll is awesome but the original was better. I'm excited to see the expansions.
Cool review, but why your hands are shaking so much
TROLL! TROLL IN BASEMENT!
I think I am going to sell my old Hogwarts castle and buy this one with it 😅
13:16 among
These sets are going to be available on June 1st not August or July
Yup. Said it in the video and description 😊
12:38
I really expected the moon to be glow in the dark??
I don't like Harry Potter, but this set looks beautiful! I'd love to have It and pretend that is Any other construction
It’s incredible!
This is the third hogwarts great hall
⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟
sorry, I'm surprised how everything is amazing and smart according to your review....
it's the same with every set he gets his hands on. Kind of annoying
I criticized multiple things in this set. The banner colors, railing build, how there’s no locking feature for the rooms, the rooms lack of walls, the underground looks incomplete.
But sure. Pick and choose what you guys want to hear I guess 🤷♂️
@@jannovotny3674 you say “every” and yet there’s PLENTY of sets I’ve reviewed that I do not like and have torn apart
The most recent example being the Inside Out 2 set.
But keep pushing your narrative 👍
@@Ashnflash correct me if I'm wrong: I think its a common problem that reviewers are afraid that they dont get the products for free anymore so they must talk mostly positive about the products. everyone older than 12 yo knows it's an act. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure you're a nice dude and the kid in me still loves Lego and Harry Potter, but these videos still have a bitter taste for adults.
@@Mr.Wpunkt yes, you are fundamentally wrong. That’s what some people on the internet want you to believe
Like I said above, I’ve got plenty of negative reviews and I’m still being sent stuff. LEGO wants us to create content on the products, they are not forcing us to say things. This is not an act.
Here ya go:
czcams.com/video/OEMUlUWN6so/video.html
Almost 2 years ago and I’m still being sent Marvel sets
It's great that lego finally realized THAT THE MODULAR HOGWARTS WAS TERRIBLE
I can’t stand the 20th anniversary wave. The green roofs, the cubic modular builds, the fact that it’s not really 20 years of LHP.
There were some good builds as their own standalone but the fully combined build wasn’t anything compared to the 2018-2020 wave of castles.
This wave shows promise with really nice builds and interesting connections. Not just stacking and attaching next to each other. Can’t wait to see what the final combined build looks like.
Though, I’m content with my 2018 Great Hall + Whomping Willow and 2023 Castle & Grounds.
when you said the price as "one hundred..." I got excited, but then you continued "...ninety-nine, ninety-nine", why not say just "two hundred" lol
Bit disappointed this is only 20 minutes however I am looking forward
Ahahah thanks! I am shocked it is so short, but I covered everything 😅
How did the temu girl become white if she was black
It looks so bad, all the rooms look unfinished, like the designer gave up halfway through. The interior of the Great Hall doesn't look that great either. Definitely a downgrade from 2018
Wait… lego harry potter produces triple-molded short legs and skirt pieces while star wars fans have to play 700 dollars for a single minifig that gets released a year later in a 13 dollar microfighter… ok…
I mean that’s just how shorts are done. But, at the end of the day every theme has their own allotted budget. So Harry Potter years ago chose to create these legs so that they could reuse them for many years to come.
I love it so much but i already spent my money on the 2018 sets AND the 2021 sets🥲 i actually kinda regret it tbh
