    I've been learning Photoshop and Lumenzia since March and it's completely changed my post-processing. Dodging and burning using luminosity masks is the best; I do it to some degree on almost all my photos now, even birds. Really brings out feather detail to a degree I couldn't with Lightroom alone. I generally use LR, PS, and LR again in that order.

    Shadows are to me important too, they add something special to an image, and add depth. Shadows are there in life and are just as important as light for any type of image media, film, photo, painting. they all in some way use shadows. Keep em coming Henry.

    Just a quick mention Henry, I’ve just added Luminar 4 to my ‘collection’ of editing suites and it has a dedicated Orton effect ‘function’ and it works surprisingly well. Worth looking at. Take care Mate.

      @@HenryTurnerphoto Luminar is like having the cheat codes for editing. I have it, but I only use it for commercial stuff, it's too powerful. I always end up over doing it :)

    • @SteveP_2426
      @SteveP_2426 Před 3 lety

      It's in ON1 Photo Raw too ( hidden in one of the effects tabs) which isn't so AI controlled as Luminar. I bought both but have never taken to Luminar to be honest

  • @markaz112
    @markaz112 Před 3 lety

    I might be wrong, but I think you overwritten Dodge Burn layer by moving it down under Orton layer. Instead that I suggest you merge a copy of all visible layers into target layer after making Doddge&Burn layer by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Shift + E. And only then apply orton effect to that layer

    If we all edited the same way it would be like eating the same meal breakfast lunch and dinner for your entire life 🤯🔫 honestly thats the worst. Definitely pick things out of work flows that you can incorporate in your own and be different, your way more likely to come away with something that you and others will appreciate. Nice edit Henry, heal fast 👊🏻

    Henry, hope you get better soon mate but I couldn’t stifle a little chuckle at the bagpuss photograph! Awesome. I have used PS and LR but kind of object to the monthly subscription you have to pay so I recently switched to Affinity. It is a one off reasonable payment and it’s an awesome editor doing the same as PS and LR rolled into one piece of software. Check it out. To get back to your video I think that the key message to all editing (provided the raw image is good) is subtlety. Over doing any edit is probably the rookies biggest hurdle, so you’re point is well made. Hope you have a swift recovery.

    I believe if you edit a photo in PS without having already corrected the camera profile in LR, LR will no longer recognize the camera & lens profiles. I always do the CA and profile corrections first in LR, before editing in PS. You may be shocked how much distortion some camera & lens combinations have.

    • @HenryTurnerphoto
      @HenryTurnerphoto  Před 4 lety

      Hi John, yeah like I said I don't really bother with it that much, but whenever I take a stills on my M50 I DEFINITELY need lens correction or else it's so distorted!!

    What are your thoughts Henry?

    • @HenryTurnerphoto

      I prefer both but I'm pretty sure Camera Raw (that comes with PS) is very similar to Lightroom and so it could be a fair point

    Mark Denney did a vid on Luminar 4 on 6/24, very interesting. As some others mentioned below he talked about the Orton effect. You can have Luminar 4 as a plugin to your Photoshop. Maybe Mark's discount is still available through that video. Luminar 4 is reasonably priced, and with his discount it's only about $60.00 usd, and you own it, no subscription. Hope you feel better soon Henry!

  • @JohnHPettigrewFujishooter67

    i found a better tecnique to dodge and burn , you have to work on 50% gray level with overlay method, then brush with dodge and burn tull, this is more accurate because the 50% gray level works as mask

    If this was my image I would remove the thin stick that is to the right of the main tree trunk & curving in towards the tree. Everytime I look at this image my eye goes straight to it & is distracting.
