Wow. I never even thought about using an EQ sweep on my instrumental bus to find out where my vocals live. The more you know. Also, I got Howard Benson Vocals and I absolutely love it. It's great for anything from fast lead vocals to ambient background vocals. Excellent plugin!
HB is an awesome ensemble vocal process plugin. The most affective part is first EQ that defines the taste, and first compression defines the dynamic of the singing.

Ive been taking forever and really overthinking my vocal chain as of late so this vid is definitely helpful to just simplify things a bit. Even if I don't have the plugin you're using, just seeing all of the chain with all the settings in one window is helpful

i always forget GR2 is a thing. never really hear anyone talk about it. its usually GR 1 or Howard Benson
I've never known about pulling some DB out of the frequency that the vocal is hard to hear.

Is there a benefit to using the EQ cut on the instrument bus vs using something like trackspacer?
They are totally different. One removes frequency dynamically while the other is linear and static. However, with dynamic eq, the lines and boundaries of these differences begin to blur.
