Vocals used to be something I struggled with to fit in the mix. But once you figure it out its like huh it was a lot simpler than I thought. I used to think it sounded bad because my dull cheap mic was to blame, but at the end of the day I think I managed to get something I was pretty satisfied with. Loved the 'mix with me' style of video today, they usually open your eyes to new techniques you haven't tried before.

I've always found vocals to be the easiest thing to mix. It's so clear how the human voice "should" sound. We know immediately when it sounds wrong or unnatural. It's also clear what the goal is when mixing vocals. The vocal should be the most important part of the mix. It should be super consistent. It should never be buried unless it's for intentional effect at certain moments.
With something like drums or guitars, there are just so many options for tone and placement in a mix that I don't know where to start.
What would be great is if he showed how he treats bad vocals with high noise, room reflections, etc!
It's almost impossible to get a good quality vocal ... With high noise and all those other bad stuff 🫂🫂
How about holding artists to the highest standards of recording? Of course there are times we have to mitigate problems but that shouldn’t be the norm.
Easy: Tell them to record it right.
For room, there are cheap, up to expensive plugins, that work well.
You wont. Because you dont do that. You have to realize that mixing starts at the source. No amount of mixing can polish a turd. You need good source tracks if you want good music, plain and simple. No mixing will save bad audio.
Yeah, just don't... If you have no choices (let's say it was a recorded live and you got lot of bleed) clean the vocals as much as possible even before starting to mix the performance. Multibands gating (with some tricks in the sidechain) works better than denoiser like Clarity VX or Clear for me. If it was a close mic and the voice in rangy, don't over compress, go with multibands compression trageting the problematic parts of the spectrum. You get there very carefully.

I appreciate the A plate paired with the CLA PLUGIN. The EQ into the compressor technique is fantastic. A valuable tip I've picked up is to focus listening quietly when mixing, avoiding ear overpower. Your content is excellent!
