This is perfect, now I get to take my own queen off the board after blundering it 7 moves in!
Lol
Adding effort to injury
hahahah!
Are you Alexandra Botez?
Git gud
Wow that's crazy, they actually released a board version of chess.
😂😂
hahaha
Well, considering that this is taking the online exclusive features (like online matches and playing against the computer), and making them possible on the original board, that's not such a dumb thing to say
hahahaha its over many centuries before. 400 years after Jesus Christ
@@MuhammadIqbal-dp2es that's the joke my friend.
I played OTB recently for the first time since the birth of the internet.
It was horrendous! Such a different perspective. I missed everything happening on the board. Very weird.
This is my fear online I'm 2250 but I feel over the board I'd be like a 900. I can't see myself being able to visualize half as good
I think it's just something to get used to, but the first few times are definitely weird.
That’s how I felt playing online chess for the first time.
Playing my 1st tournament tomorrow, recently i am getting more restless playing on computer cause as a software engineer i see enough of that everyday. I don't feel any disadvantage playing OTB
(I just play lichess puzzles OTB from last week for practice)
I had the same thing - I played my first OTB game against a dude in a mountain refuge and got crushed. When we talked later on I found out that I was some 400 points higher rated than him online. OTB chess is super hard when you don't practice it.
I actually rather liked watching that. Though keep an eye on your time! I bet you have a significant disadvantage in time scrambles, best to play with increment in this form.
They could have made the board show you your time if they put a little screen on the side
They could have some form of magnet system to actually make the moves of the oponents pieces. It would not solve time issues completely but it would help.
@@spindoctor6385 taht would be problematic when dealing with knight moves
@@Thurrak Yeah, I agree. Don't get me wrong, I like the board, I might buy one, as I dislike playing short form chess anyway but it is an issue for anyone who does. They could make pieces small enough to fit knights between them, but that would be ugly. Possible to have the magnets separate other pieces so the knights can slide between them. I know it would be complicated, probably to the point where it becomes cost prohibitive.
@@spindoctor6385 yeh its too difficult plus the resulting board will have to be much bigger than this.
It's really nice but for me, a guy from Poland, this board costs more than a half of a typical monthly salary
Its a nice concept but the pricing for the board is to high.
If you enter the time scramble, I think it will be hard to manage your opponent’s pieces too
"Bishop F8, maybe setting up for the next game" ... savage talk by Rosen 5:27
Big fan of this style, the layout is very well organized and it's cool to see OTB style board play.
It actually seems really nice to play online chess without looking at a screen all day, less distractions too.
Crazy to me how Eric just carries on with content like he didn't achieve a massive win. So humble. Congrats man!
Ya unlike some people like *cough* levv- *cough* yy who would have made a 30 min video on how he won and performed amazingly in I'm not a gm and his highlights ..
I really liked watching you play in this format, really feels like I’m watching you play in a tournament!
This would be a very cool way to for him to play against fans.
It seems like a extra complicated way to play online, but you make good points about being able to improve your board vision without necessarily having to go and find a bunch of people to play OTB with.
This is the cutest product placement ever
Yes! Thank you Eric! I am getting my board Tomorrow!
I can't wait for mine to arrive! This still looks super cool.
I liked this a lot! definitely would love to watch more videos like this; might be worth to try have a diagonal camera angle over the board just like in tournaments just to see if it looks like some nice OTB live streams
I'd like to play this with my daughter. It'll help her learn and we'd spend time together.
I love this please do more of this type of video!
I would like to see a series from this. Loved it!
Eric you mind-reader! I was just looking up if this was a feature of the ChessUp board yesterday! This makes it so much cooler!
love this style of video Eric!
Definitely better/safe for eyes for regular players! 👍🏻
Love the format.
I like the way you announce adjust to the board before straightening pieces.
I really enjoyed this video. This will be great to play my buddies over seas as we don’t like online chess. Thanks for the awesome video Eric!
This was fun to watch. I really would enjoy this
I ordered mine like a week ago it should be arriving any day now I’m so EXCITED
This is really cool, I'd like to see more like this!
You have the best content - thank you!
I'm waiting for mine to be delivered, now I'm excited !!
How is it for you now?
This thing is expensive but super cool, you could combine it with a clock on the side so you don't have to check the time, just hit it for your opponent as well
it would be inaccurate
What happens when you promote? Does the board know what piece you choose or do you have to tell it somehow?
That's a good question! My guess is that it knows which piece, that would be easy to do with current technology.
I didn't make the chess board, but i m sure that each pieces have a signature electronic that the board recognize. dumb idea ?
It depends on the technology they use. If it's just pressure sensors then the pieces would have to have unique weights that might be hard to keep consistent in manufacturing. It could be RFID but that's expensive. The DGT boards use RFID and those run in the $3k range. Light sensors can't distinguish between pieces. Analog hall effect sensors might work but signal to noise ratio is an issue if a bunch of pieces are clumped together. I've looked in to making a board like this as a hobby project and ran in to all of these issues which is why I'm curious
Surely skylanders uses a fairly cheap technology?
I mean they have to have thought of that and implemented a solution… or the game would be unplayable. Promotion is a key means of winning a game.
So cool, now we want to see a time scramble 😅
square off looks cooler since it moves the pieces by its self using a magnetic arm
Playing with it to train for OTB matches after only ever playing online sounds awesome. Though it might inadvertently cause a habit of touching the pieces before moving them which could cause problems with touch-move tournaments
This is a really good feature, i have problems visualizing OTB because I'm not used to it, and i also don't have anyone to practice orb chess with
nd7 was a move here as well, but I feel like Eric's try was maybe equal if not better because the knight will be worth about a rook there.
Thanks Eric!! Loved the vid as usual :) might have to use coupon code Rosen
More videos like this please!!
I can see future Candidates and other tournaments being played on a digital board like this.
definetly keeping this bookmarked
thats pretty cool! I do prefer my dgt board but its mostly only good for classical time controls as I have to place their pieces using lichess speech synthesis
another interesting online OTB is VR chat chess lobbies, and you can actually see where the opponent is looking/talk to them
Thank You for doing this Eric!! (Are you playing in the Larry Evans Memorial in Reno May 3rd?) I just received my ChessUp today UPS and will be using it at our Auburn Chess Club to enhance what our members learn and use it at home. It was fun watching you play Josh Sokol Scrabble ... 6 minute games are IMO a bit toooo fast for serious Scrabble (although I practice 3 minute for fun only). I played REXINES along the triple word against Josh for about 100 points, but somehow the North American Champion still beat me ... go figure. :)
More of this!
Absolutely awesome
I'm a beginner and I'm happy to live in the era of technology. I'm in front of a computer screen many hours per day already and I didn't want to play chess on the same screen, I wanted to feel the real pieces and this board hits the spot for me.
This is so cool! Id actually be interested if they ever make an affordable one!
I preordered the ChessUp board after your last video. But I forgot to use the "Rosen" coupon code! I was sad when I realized I missed the coupon.
I am very excited about the board, and I do plan on using it for OTB online play.
Send it back and ask for a refund if they won't honor the promo post purchase.....they will very likely give you back ten percent. Unless the money is not important for you, go for it.
That’s awesome That reminds me of an old computer game I had when I was like five from RadioShack
That's a really cool board!
I ordered one. I've gotta find some way to make classical online games not super boring.
They make similar boards but with magnetic pieces so they move on their own. Its way more fun.
more of this please
using this as OTB training, it might help to add a fake clock just to get into the habit of hitting it. I see even strong online players at my club forgetting this a lot.
I lov the board, it's super amazing
That was very cool. Fun board.
That’s funny, I haven’t played chess in a few months and just yesterday decided to do this very thing😆
Great, now I can throw all the pieces to the ground when Im rage quitting next time
When you blunder, you can just pretend the opponent didn't see it and make a different move for them. Ignore the lights telling you you're wrong, you're totally winning lmao
I’m desperate to see a time scramble lol, probably not a practical product for anything other than classical format
exactly my thoughts too, or you become the a legendary bullet player haha
@@Jenkotipe lol imagine penguin doing 2 hand scramble
Would be cool to have a POV Camera so we can see the board from your side!
I cant wait to get my board
10:05 Qb5 Qxa7 actually looks like a mistake, since Black can go for the draw with Rb7, Qa8+ Rb8, Qa7 Rb7.
Great product.
Really cool, keep it up! Can you play a live tournament with it?
you could had a physical clock to keep track of your time.
I never play or even practice OTB. That looks pretty cool.
safe to say keep making more vids like this :)
That’s such cool idea
I would love one of those boards. Maybe I'll save up.
Been waiting months and months for mine to come in
"He plays Bf8, setting up for the next game ". Looool
That board is sick
I'm wondering how much advantage the fact that you're also moving your opponents pieces gives you. Like how much in live situation that helps you to understand your opponents ideas and strategies?
it look so cool! how far have we come with technology
My feedback: I thought it was very interesting to see over the board capable of meeting online matchmaking. I would be interested to see how much of a challenge it could be for yourself with less time like a 2 minute bullet and see how well you play :)
Maybe if Levy used this he wouldn’t have quit chess.
Be3 was nice - I would have just snapped the Bishop on a6 without thinking
Or they can make platform available using Oculus VR where you also tap on the clock
Nice board! Time counter is missing on the board, though. Would be nice if a touch timer would be included in the design for real life games, as well.
For real for 400 bucks i want a time counter at a bare minimum.
If I’m not mistaken, you can use the app to function as a chess clock when playing OTB (i.e. not online). You don’t even have to press the clock, it automatically switches to the opponent when you make a move. A really cool feature
Best. Thing. Ever.
I ordered it , I used the Rosen coupon. Just waiting for it to be delivered
you are my fav youtuber
10:37, insane just how fast he calculates that line…. I wonder what he pictures in his brain ? For me its forcing moves and then pieces immediately vanishing and the final piece placement in the line. But i cant tell you how many times I’ve been wrong 😂.
With evidence to my claim, seconds went by and he revealed the plan…. I was wrong again
I think that was brilliant you playing in 3d while we can whatch in 1d moves. may be add a real chess clock so that it reprecent the real game. It would be intresting if you see your moves quicker in this play stile.
I think I'd like to see a top down view of the physical board instead of the lichess screen recording
The board is great however there is a critical missing component and that is time control, including integration with lichess!
Do you mean the possibility to choose the same time controls as on LIchess?
How about playing on that board where it actually moves your opponent's pieces. Could be fun 😊
Will we see a stream with the ChessUp board?
3:54 Good job your Chessup board spotted your mistake and indicated it to you.
Quick question, I know is very minor but do you feel getting a little distracting when moving opponent's pieces? Thanks for the vid, looks really cool!
If you were running out of time you would have a big disadvantage as you can't pre-move instantly.
really awesome chess board
Really cool chess board
Just don't rage after losing...
Very cool.
Enjoyed the layout of the video cool idea but board doesn't show how time each person has?
"Bf8..... Maybe setting up for the next game."
😂😂😂
I preordered this so long ago; I wonder when it will be ready.
They are fulfilling orders July and August😊 I can’t wait to get mine
@@JuliusBjornsson Gotcha! :)
I think it could use 2 small digital clocks built in to see the time that both players have right on the board. In addition, two buttons for a chess clock when using the board against another player in person, would really kick this thing into true “ultimate” chess tool.
You can use the app to function as a chess clock, when playing an OTB game. You don’t even have to press it as it is connected with the moves played on the board
@@JuliusBjornsson yes of course, but you can’t do it in person on the board against another person, and you can’t see the time displayed on the board.
@@chauncyquest2779 it’s basically like playing chess with any other chess board. The clock is never on the board, but beside it. The time is very visible on the phone’s screen and you don’t even have to push the clock after every move as you normally should using a normal chess clock
@@JuliusBjornsson I agree that it’s awesome, but he asked for any thoughts and feedback, and I think it would be cool to see the time on the board itself, in a perfect world.
@@chauncyquest2779 fair enough
