Wow, how someone stands with hands on hips in front of a rapidly approaching & furious tsunami while Scandinavian folks are yelling “komm”, “komm” in urgent voices. “Komm” sounds so very close to English” come”, & with a tsunami rapidly advancing on you & everyone else running away as fast as they could, I mean, could this be difficult for a European resort employee to get a quick handle on? The thing about disasters in any area is that you get 90secs to act. A t instantly or die is pretty much the ghastly rule. After that, good luck…
Yes so sad how hindsight butvu still have to be wary,I remember walking wherevtides and my mind always on alert of water is coming u begin to run,not walking
It's crazy how they didn't even realize how dangerous it was but yet how blessed are they to survive something like that being so close and avoiding them
They are talking about how far it might reach in the video and also about how they moved further inland so clearly they know, Sweden have 48000km of coastline we sure know that the sea is dangerous.
Because these 30ft waves are mostly a Hollywood creation. A real tsunami looks like what you see in the video: Wave upon wave, one layering on top of the other, raising the water level step by step and perhaps reaching 30 feet or more..
Khao Lak was the coastal area of Thailand hardest hit by the tsunami resulting from the 26 December 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. Many people died including many foreign tourists. ... Most of the coastal landscape, i.e., beaches, resorts and vegetation, was destroyed by the tsunami...In December 2004, a 9.1-magnitude earthquake off Sumatra in western Indonesia triggered a tsunami that killed 230,000 people in a dozen countries.
Border Rivera. And that part of the world had no warning systems until after 2004 and many still don't , most of the people didn't even know what a tsunami was . And even if they knew and was warned that thing was beast . Many would have lived had they only known to watch the animals they knew and we're showing what the people thought was odd behavior . What a bad way to meet a tsunami . Hello my name is Tsunami and I'm here to kill you . How cold hearted mother nature can be .
I am not sure if they knew what a Tsunami was. I would have ran up as high as possible. We used to call them Tidal Waves but the tide has nothing to do with a tsunami or may only influence the coastal result somewhat. There are tidal waves. Quickly changing tides can generate huge waves in some parts of China once or twice a year during high tide. How can that man not see what is coming is dangerous? The others kept telling him to come up. He is lucky to have seen this without harm.
"Hey, look at the ocean washing all the way up to our bungalow...let's all just stand here and watch. Look at the big lizard caught in the water, and the fish. This is so interesting that we shouldn't leave. We need to see all this happening." And then they're dead.
Steven Yourke Tsunami is a foreign concept to them and even the natives it has never happened before. . I have lived all around the Pacific rim and I would have recognized this fairly quickly . Prior to this event there was a dearth of pictures of Tsunami now with this and the Japan Tsunami now we have lots of pictures therefore fewer naive people
At the very beginning of this video is at the beginning of the waves. So this is about 20-30min after the sea started acting up. It had already gone out and was coming back to shore. If u watch it closely u can see how the the waves are just crashing on top of each other. It’s a very strange site. When u see a wave breaker it always progresses forward and then rolls back. This shit was breaking on top of each other and only getting taller. It’s a very weird site to see. I can see how people were just staring at the water like wtf is that! It’s not logical(?).
@@chrisemerson7743 actually the wave had been broken, but the later water mass still pushing forward. This made the water level higher. The wave height on the video was pretty average, like in the rainy season, but the mass and pushing power was so incredible. Someone would not have a chance to stand still the pushing power of that ravaging ocean. If I were there, I'd be hypnotized also by the strange waves.
Fighter Cat What do u mean by “the wave had been broken”? Also, the reason the water level was rising was because of an earthquake. The tsunami came in just a little ways at first and most people didn’t notice. Then the water started to retreat more and more. But the whole time the waves are still breaking but only going backwards. During this time the water is actually building up, waiting for the energy from the earthquake to catch up. When it does it comes in at about 60mph.

It is hard to grasp how so many were not aware of what a Tsunami is or how devistating one CAN be. Don't people read? This is what happens when people ignore history.
It's all well and said in hindsight, but this was 15 years ago (this IS the history), back then the majority of people hadn't even heard the word 'Tsunami' let alone knew what one was. You had to take an A-level/college degree in Geology just to be taught the basics. Tsunamis on this scale had never happened before in the 'modern digital world' so there was no reference material other than a few grainy B&W pics from the aftermath of the Alaskan earthquake/tsunami from 1964 (non from the event itself). Luckly, with both modern communication and the internet's ability to spread information within a matter of hours we are able to spread this type of warning information a lot better and much more widely :)
It's not a Tidal wave, tidal waves (normally called Bore's) only affect the first couple of meters of the ocean/sea surface and are a result of the Sun/Moon combined gravity (hence the word Tidal in the name) pulling on the ocean surface in a particular way at certain times of year in a specific area. They are completely predictable and mostly harmless (check out videos of one called the Severn Bore). This on the other hand is a Tsunami, these are generated by Earthquakes/Landslides and are a result of a massive amount of water being pushed away from the earthquake/landslide area and affect the ENTIRE column of water from the surface all the way down to the sea floor. They can be many Kilometers/Miles deep as well as a couple of kilometers/miles wide (for each wave, and there can be multiple waves one after the other, and can take over a day for the ocean/sea to stop oscillating back and forth). We can only 'predict' what will happen shortly after the Tsunami has formed (and if it forms close to shore there isn't enough time as there can be only minutes between both earthquake and tsunami happening on a coastline) and even then it can take anything up to an hour to accurately figure out how high the wave will be along coastal areas, something that people near by don't have :(
People had no idea what happened to the ocean. They thought it wsmas just an ordinary wave. But deadly wave that killed 250k people across the indian ocean. If u saw the type of waves run for ur life save urself.
I don't know. People learn about weather phenomenon in public schools. Volcano, hurricane, tornado, ice storm, heat wave, forest fire, land slide, tsunami, etc? I'm very surprised when I encounter people older than 12-13 don't know what these things are. I guess some people just don't get taught about the natural world. These tourists lucked out.
Chicago had a seiche in '59 where the water rolled wayyyy out and all the fisherman who were WWII vets ran for their cars. The water rolled back in and killed 11 fisherman in one spot. Now the piers in Chicago have steel cables to cling to in case it happens again.
Basically all the warning signs were straight forward and people just ignored common sense in so many cases that wow this is something that has never happened and it doesn't make sense so we will just watch all the way up to the point where we die
Might not be surrounded by water but you are surrounded by shit for brains. By the way, people eat animals for meat and to survive. Like Americans do. But because the Thais live DIFFERENTLY than you do, you want to castigate them. No wonder our country is losing its global presence and influence. People are not willing and they’re too smart to become the puppets of this country anymore. They also have money, power, weapons, and most importantly, each other. They’re cohesive, not divided and stuck in the mentality of racism, arrogance, elitism, and separatism. People like you are evolving into the small minds of their pets instead of cats, dogs, & bunnies evolving to shit in a toilet and eat with distinction at the dinner table. So take your thumb out your ass and get in touch with the real world!

They thought it was just wave, how sad
Rip angels
It's crazy how they didn't even realize how dangerous it was but yet how blessed are they to survive something like that being so close and avoiding them
They are talking about how far it might reach in the video and also about how they moved further inland so clearly they know, Sweden have 48000km of coastline we sure know that the sea is dangerous.
Did anyone get hurt?
Por lo visto aqui no paso nada. Estan todos muy calmos
I don't see any videos where the tsunami came in as a 30ft. wave but I guess I know why...
Because these 30ft waves are mostly a Hollywood creation. A real tsunami looks like what you see in the video: Wave upon wave, one layering on top of the other, raising the water level step by step and perhaps reaching 30 feet or more..
Pero esta familia se salvo?
We need to see all this happening."
And then they're dead.
Right?
To be honest I think I would do the same thing ,I've never witnessed this before.
Wait till the feet get wet then run
Do you believe these idiots? It’s.a tsunami and they just stand there watching it and commenting. Hilarious!
Steven Yourke
Tsunami is a foreign concept to them and even the natives it has never happened before. . I have lived all around the Pacific rim and I would have recognized this fairly quickly . Prior to this event there was a dearth of pictures of Tsunami now with this and the Japan Tsunami now we have lots of pictures therefore fewer naive people
From beginning of the video, was it the first or second wave coming? The later wave seemed to be the bigger one.
I hope the fish made it.
hey gee geeya its coming again ya its coming again!

This doesn't looks like the Tsunamis that were pictured in most Movies, right? Back in 2004, many peoples don't know what is Tsunami.
Casal muito Insensíveis!
A tsunamai is like a flood...from the sea.
The islands were lucky that the bulk of the water could go around. The mainland is where the water has nowhere to go but up.
Try telling that to Phuket!
Those people standing there.. are they crazy?
We can only 'predict' what will happen shortly after the Tsunami has formed (and if it forms close to shore there isn't enough time as there can be only minutes between both earthquake and tsunami happening on a coastline) and even then it can take anything up to an hour to accurately figure out how high the wave will be along coastal areas, something that people near by don't have :(
Dumbass, its experiences like these that were recorded so many years ago that makes fools like you know what a tsunami is and what to do now smh.
Does the water recede before each tsunami wave?
Some do and some don't
They can be stacked over each other
Chicago had a seiche in '59 where the water rolled wayyyy out and all the fisherman who were WWII vets ran for their cars. The water rolled back in and killed 11 fisherman in one spot. Now the piers in Chicago have steel cables to cling to in case it happens again.
"Fucking hell, have you seen that?"
The stupid things British tourists ask locals.
A Tsunami occurs when the husband comes home from work and find his beers on top of the fridge
Tsunami at Kom Siboya 26 dec. 2004. Categorie Mensen én Blogs! Licentie Standaard! CZcams--Licentie!
Basically all the warning signs were straight forward and people just ignored common sense in so many cases that wow this is something that has never happened and it doesn't make sense so we will just watch all the way up to the point where we die
You fucking moron
Only straight forward if you've seen a tsunami before! I expect you and other people on here are now experts because you've watched several videos.
Why most of the tsunami's were occured in 2004?
The event on dec 26 2004 affected many countries. One event, many tsunamis. It was all started by one of the largest earthquakes ever measured.
Foolish man putting his family in danger
They should have been using this opportunity to capture hidden camera footage inside the women's changeroom.
I’m sure we are going to see someone surf a tsunami in the future
this might be a mild tsunami ..but hey its still dangerous and scary...seems like at the end,the mans voice shivers..
The thing about this tsunami is the weather and water was warm. You could survive if you didn't lose your head or get hit with debris.
Ahole he got kids and don't get them out of harms way, what what would u do
That video is great it was beautiful I'm just glad I'm not dumb enough to live on an island surrounded by water
Bill Cummins : In fact, most islands are surrounded by water. 😄
No, just DUMB.
TINI TSUNAMI
I don't feel sorry for any of these people that have these ocean disasters and standby recording as if nothing's going to happen, so ridiculous
First of all they are swedish so they never saw the water acting up. The Baltic Sea does not get any tsunamis. Second of all: this was filmed 2004 at a time were people had no clue what a tsunami was. The last known tsunami in that area was over 100 years in the past so yeah not even the locals did not know what was going on. And now please tell how this family could have know what was going on?
Even the lizard knows something is wrong.
I know some people are harsh, not have knowledge of physics and geography is a truism
They should run seeing alligators around
those people died on that day
of not running
Eh if you mean the family that filmed this video, they are very much alive.
They probably didn't know what is Tsunami and didn't aware the danger. They thought it's just a big wave but will stop when it reach the shore.
If you don't know about tsunmese of course you wonder what's happening....l know about them now but not too long ago l too would be standing looking. Not now.

Standing there trying to tempt fate, not real bright; when his butt is way out splashing around trying to keep his head above water he will prolly not be as bold.
Sorry, didn’t quite sound like the German I learnt years ago, not quite like the Swedish I did 15 years ago before I went to Sweden, but no clues in the notes as to which language to listen for? Dutch? Danish Norwegian, German-ish, Finnish, Swedish, would love to know… Sure hope no damage to you, yours, your friends, nor any staff in your hotel.
