@@laurabogojevich9378 In this video he isn’t really breathing and in the studio version (I think) the breathing is taken out. When you listen to a live version 9 years ago you clearly can hear him breath, I mean he has to! BUT in the live version from December 2021 (I think) you never hear him breath. You can see it once but not hear it! So he is much better now and has insane breath control, not only in the studio but live too!
I think what makes PTX special to me is that every member plays a critical role in the execution of a song. It must be great to be in a group where you know that every other member will always excel at their part. I enjoy your reactions and look forward to more.
The song that launched me on PTX 9 years ago! My favorite Christmas song. I've heard them describe how they did the video. They were so young, hiking in the woods, looking for a waterfall for the background, never found it, but the were carrying a generator, and it died on the last take of filming, after about two hours, so they had to cart it all back. The budget for the early videos was so low back then. Now, they can, and have, rented an entire section of an airport to film a video for a few hours. The video for their first Grammy cost $400. They recorded it in a closet and filmed it in a kitchen.
“Angels We Have Heard On High” shows off their ability for great transitions; taking the lead and blending back into making their teammates sound even better. “First Noel” is simply beautiful. Can always count on PTX to make Christmas music accessible to all kinds of listeners. They make me enjoy the holidays by providing their updated and interesting spin on the traditional.
This performance is a testament to the choral experience Avi, Mitch, Kirstin and Scott had in high school choirs (and college for Avi), a big part of which was doing madrigals and sacred Latin pieces. That gave them a great foundation for what they've achieved over the years.
This song is a PTX Christmas staple. Completely captures the fun and creativity of the group, and showcases each member's talents. So glad you got to this one, Larry. I love how delighted you always are with their innovations, and how you are able to dissect them and explain to those of us with less musical training the technical side of how they do what they do. Another great reaction!
I am always breathless afterwards because I’m not sure Mitch ( lead singer) breathes during this. Again, enjoy watching your joy. PTX brings joy. What more can you ask from a musical group? Thanks for doing this!
There’s a live version of this song from their “Christmas Under the Stars” special. I swear you cant tell Mitch is breathing 😲absolutely brilliant. They all do a fabulous job ❤️
I think you'd really enjoy Pentatonix - Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Their unique talents really shine in this one, even though there are no actual words.
If you haven't already seen their cover of Come All ye Faithful. Your mind will be Blown at what they did to it. At this point. Every pentitonix Fan knows that they put their Pentatonix spin on it and make it Better than the original
Please do Oh Come All Ye Faithful! It’s one where they take a traditional Christmas some and turn it upside down and make it so new and fresh!! Love it so much!! I love your reactions!
I was very disappointed that you didn't realize Mitch did not breathe at the very beginning. That's the most amazing part of this song to me. You might want to go to PTX weekly news channel and watch the carol of the bells from last year for BYUTV. Maybe you will notice Mitchs breath control easier. Loved that you love it. It's like being suspended at the top of a roller coaster the way they play with silences and sounds.
This is one of my favorite songs, ever. It's on all my regular non-Christmas playlists (Pentatonix, Mitch leads, favorite songs, etc). And it was from their very first Christmas EP. There were 6 songs and each of them - and Ben Bram - chose a song. This was Mitch's pick. PS. I love when they make you give up and you just end up staring at us. I can just see your brain breaking 😆
This is one of my absolute favorite ptx christmas songs. Their christmas music is so good that i listen to it all year. I love it and it makes me happy no matter the season. :)
I absolutely LOOOOOVE this song and your reaction to the most important part of the song at the end. It's extremely mindblowing. I will never forget my first time hearing this. I mean..after all those years I'm still amazed. Your reaction was priceless! I loved it. Now I must subscribe !
I am enjoyng watching your Pentatonix journey. They are amazing. I just wonder how Mitch sings so for long without taking a breath. It's awesome how brilliant this arrangement and performance are.
I started watching this series AWAY on NF and on the last episode I watched last night they played this song with PTX while they were floating around in their spaceship. I know PTX has been on other TV shows but I never thought they would be on a spaceship heading for Mars!
Thanks for a very enjoyable reaction! All of their Christmas music is the best but I would love to see your reaction to their new one "Over The River" and the complex spin they take with "12 Days Of Christmas" ( 2 songs I never cared much for until Pentatonix did them).
This isn’t very well known but they cover one of my favorite Disney songs, it’s from Anastasia called “Once Upon a December”. You should check it out, it was a beautiful haunting song to begin and they took and just went “yeah, let the professionals handle this”
Thank you for the PTX reactions, I just love your sheer delight at their arrangements, and how much fun it is discovering the beautiful surprises in each song.
I think they, along with their producer Ben Bram, are the best music arrangers of the last decade. Their arrangements are creative, and often emotionally impactful.
I think this is my favorite video of them. It's terrific! It shows their ability with classical stuff, man...the harmonies, counterpoint, so many things, it is a song that has been always a joy to listen to. Spectacular reaction, keep it up!
For all the reasons you mention during and after hearing this song, please consider their take on "Away in the Manger," which has been overlooked by reviewers and the general public. The video was made after Avi had left the group and before Matt could come on board, but that did not stop our heros. They did two or three videos during that early autumn, but my favorite was how they took a hackneyed, much drone young children's song, and through their Pentamagic created a light, bright, and beautiful carol. Please!
Hi Larryshair, This was a great song/reaction. I had never heard it before. As you comment, this song is custom made for this great group. I noticed how young everyone was , especially Mitch. They were great back then (whenever it was) and continue to be so. You can also tell how their voices have matured up to this day. I only wish we could turn back the clock , let us say about 10-15 years ago. I would have gone to see them live (as well as Home Free). Unfortunately I do not have enough time on this planet to go see anyone in person. I always say to not put off something that you can work on today tp check off something you may have on your "bucket list". It's collaborative. Their two Grammys for arrangements name all five of them and their "sixth member" Ben Bram... but there are also a ton of videos of them working on arrangements as well as a virtual "class" they offered earlier this year where you could pay to get a more in-depth look at their process.
From the beginning, they worked with genius vocal arranger, Ben Bram, who encouraged Scott to put the group together and audition for The Sing Off. Their 2 Grammy awards for arrangements are shared with Ben Bram. They all contribute to arrangements, and they have probably worked with other arrangers too, but they wouldn't have gotten where they are without Ben there from the beginning.

Lyrics in English:
m.czcams.com/video/GqeJ38DThVc/video.html
Shchedryk, shchedryk, shchedrivochka
Here flew the swallow from afar
Started to sing lively and loud
Asking the master to come out
Come here, oh come, master - it’s time
In the sheepfold wonders to find
Your lovely sheep have given birth
To little lambs of great worth
All of your wares are very fine
Coin you will have in a big pile
All of your wares are very fine
Coin you will have in a big pile
You have a wife
Fair as a dove
If not the coin, then the chaff
You have a wife fair as a dove
Love it!
I hope you react to Silent Night - just amazing!
