Two-time Oscar nominee Will Smith (“Ali,” “The Pursuit of Happyness,” “Bad Boys for Life”) stars as Richard, under the direction of Reinaldo Marcus Green (“Monsters and Men”).
Driven by a clear vision of their future and using unconventional methods, Richard has a plan that will take Venus and Serena Williams from the streets of Compton, California to the global stage as legendary icons. The profoundly moving film shows the power of family, perseverance and unwavering belief as a means to achieve the impossible and impact the world.
Aunjanue Ellis (“If Beale Street Could Talk,” TV’s “Quantico”) plays the girls’ mom, Oracene “Brandi” Williams, Saniyya Sidney (“Hidden Figures,” “Fences”) stars as Venus Williams, Demi Singleton (TV’s “Godfather of Harlem”) stars as Serena Williams, with Tony Goldwyn (the “Divergent” series, TV’s “Scandal”) as coach Paul Cohen and Jon Bernthal (upcoming “The Many Saints of Newark,” “Ford v Ferrari”) as coach Rick Macci. The ensemble also includes Andy Bean (“IT Chapter Two”), Kevin Dunn (the “Transformers” films, HBO’s “Veep”) and Craig Tate (“Greyhound”).
Green directed “King Richard” from a screenplay written by Zach Baylin. The producers were Tim White and Trevor White under their Star Thrower Entertainment banner, and Will Smith under his Westbrook banner. Isha Price, Serena Williams, Venus Williams, James Lassiter, Jada Pinkett Smith, Adam Merims, Lynn Harris, Allan Mandelbaum, Jon Mone and Peter Dodd served as the executive producers.
The behind-the-scenes creative team includes Oscar-winning director of photography Robert Elswit (“There Will Be Blood”), production designers Wynn Thomas (“Da 5 Bloods,” “Hidden Figures”) and William Arnold (“The Hate U Give”), Oscar-nominated editor Pamela Martin (“The Fighter”), and two-time Oscar-nominated costume designer Sharen Davis (“Dreamgirls,” “Ray”). The music is by Oscar-nominated composer Kris Bowers (“Space Jam: A New Legacy,” “A Concerto is a Conversation”).

I just saw this move now in South Africa, i cried so many times just out of feeling so inspired and proud. I walked out of that theater with my head held high. Shout out to Beyonce for that awesome song as well
Heck yeah! I love this movie. You can’t help but feel as if you can conquer the world after watching this masterpiece.

This has to be the greatest sports story. Tennis is an incredibly technical game. For Richard to teach them without knowing anything and it all working just blows my mind!

I love the dynamic between Richard and the mom. I felt like I was listening in on a real fight between husband and wife. Big ups to the writers!
After watching the movie, I couldn't sleep, I was so inspired and I started taking note of all the lessons that this movie teachers.What a great movie! Will is an inspiration and he really deserves all the awards including an Oscar.

28 year old guy here, and im not trying to sound tough but its been a really long time since ive cried...this movie made me cry.
Wow she's left handed and had to train herself to swing with her right hand to mimic Serena. Impressive
Serena stated in an interview (I think it was with Fallon) that they should continue training and become pros.

To mimic Venus, not Serena. Saniyya, the left hander, played Venus.
This is a great movie! Well done! Superb! A MUST-SEE. Oscar material! So uplifting! Great great job to the young ladies who played Venus and Serena, their mother, and to Will Smith. Kudos to the real Venus and Serena for making tennis history and making us all proud. Now, this is how you honor your mother and father!
The film does a great job showing how amazing and powerful Mr. Williams is. He has an amazing impact on the world because of his dedication to his daughters’ path. I’m reading his book now and it has so many more nuggets than a 2.5hour movie. If you’re craving more then get his book.

@@deucefly1062 Absolutely I read the older daughter story from the first marriage.. she said she was 8 year old / her baby sister was 8 weeks old when her dad left her mom.... He went to get a bike never came back.. Her mom had five children from him... And her mom was having a rough time taking care of the children ,while he had millions of Dollars.. many men back in those days.. had several children leave the mom behind hopeless and broke.. struggle to take care of the all along. Go Marry another woman... if he was rich why not provide for all of his other children.. still his responsibility as their father... Like the daughter say she didn't like the movie.. because the whole truth wasn't told in the movie.. Lot were Lies.. Shame of him.. my dad left my mom with 7 children never took care of absolutely none. Then had the nerve to Remarry again and had 6 more children left in proverty .. Call his self a preacher I guess.. but not take care of his 13 children.. He skip the part where God say if a man don't take care of his children... Just 😢..

Did y'all see how simply and skillfully these parents kept their Family's amazing story for The Family. King was in negotiations with All them to come "managers." They built their Family's story through their literal Blood, Sweat, Tears and through the fear. Amazing story of the negotiation technique, "know when to hold dem."
My daughter and I saw this movie yesterday!! Such a great feel good movie!! Love how the family is so supportive of each other, fantastic dynamic!

OMG , this makes me cry ... since first times they played grand slam tournament , i fell in love with these 2 girls .. i remember how they first started to play , the whole croud was supporting their opponents . i keep looking on their faces , i see a poker face but a stronger will to win .. they used to take revenge against the bad croud by being more aggresive and perform better ... these 2 girls have been risen by their parents on christian principals , they offer love , dedication , and they re humble no matter how many titles they won or how much fortune they earn...
Its cool to see Will loosely staying in character behind the scenes. You can tell his commitment to this performance, and it really showed on screen!
This is one of those movies that you would watch over and over, just to make sure everyone you know sees it.
