- In this edition of Talking insomnia we get to know Caitlyn. In December of 2021, she started having trouble sleeping after the beginning of a new relationship.
Not long afterwards, she found herself in an increasingly intense struggle with sleep, culminating in 9 sleepless nights where panic attacks would jolt her awake as soon as sleep arrived. After which she had an insight that changed everything.
In this episode, she tells us about her insight, how the struggle faded, and life after insomnia.

Thanks again for having me Daniel!! Was truly a full circle moment for me and such an honor. If anyone has any questions, I’d be more happy to answer them 🫶☺️
So I take buspirone recently for anxiety that I just started two weeks ago. I also have ambien that was prescribed for my insomnia since January. Would you suggest stop taking the ambien and just let it try to happen again naturally? Thank you
This gave me so much hope. Thank you for sharing your story Caitlyn! ''I didn't even see a life ahead of me if this kept going" I can totally relate to that
@@lesagarrison9251 i was also prescribed buspirone at a certain point for my insomnia. i sadly felt like it did nothing for me at all. but that is just my experience with it.
i would say that i dont think anyone necessarily “needs” anything to sleep, as it is a natural bodily process that happens all on it’s own! and also, there is nothing that will “make” us sleep. we cannot force it at all.
even with that being said, if you feel like the ambien makes you feel a little relaxed , then that is nice! i would just say to know that you can’t really rely on it to work every single time because then it becomes a sleep effort. and sleep happens effortlessly ☺️
@@filipeferreira5087 i’m glad you are feeling hope!! yes it is such a scary place to be in when you feel like your suffering could last a long time. but it does get better, so much better. i wish you the best in your journey 💘💘
Oh any any time Caitlyn, so glad we could do this and complete the circle. You coming on surely is the beginning of someone else completing theirs 😊
AMAZING HOW ALL THESE STORIES ARE SO SIMILAR, MINE INCLUDED. I WENT THROUGH THIS FOR A GOOD 5 MONTHS BUT I DONT REGRET ANY OF IT. IVE LEARNED SO MUCH ABOUT ANXIETY, MENTAL HEALTH, AND SPIRITUALITY.
ANYBODY GOING THOUGH THIS JUST KNOW THAT THERES LIGHT AT THE END OF TUNNEL, AFTER THE RAIN COMES THE SUNSHINE.
So true !!
FR, isn’t it remarkable?! And when you understand, you see the same patterns and thoughts in every form of inner struggles. Which makes the lessons so valuable 🙂
Did you do anything to make it resolved sooner?? I'm at 3 months now and I'm losing hope :( I go to bed at 1am when I feel sleepy then I don't pass out till 5/6 till like 9am when I have to get up. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
@@zincerishhey did this get better for you
Thank you for such a nice video. Gave me hope 😊 I needed to hear that story
Wow you have been through sooo much!! I can relate to the panic attack issue and crying out of frustration and fear. Thank you for sharing your story it is very helpful.
Hi caitlin! I remember I few months ago I was in a really bad place. I was full of anxiety and also having panic attacks. I thought I would never sleep well again. I remember you replying to a comment that I put on the channel and honestly it was so helpful. I'm now sleeping much better. So I just wanted to thank you again for your encouraging words back when everything felt so awful ❤
Aw that is so so sweet of you to say!! Yes it is so important to have people supporting you and telling you it’s possible to get through even if it’s over the internet. I’m so happy you’ve seen the light at the end of the tunnel, I hope you are enjoying recovery ❤️❤️
I also have an anxiety disorder insomnia being a symptom. Have you notices improvement in sleep as your amxiety lowered?
It’s the same for me I used have panic attacks for 2 years and once i overcame it I don’t fear it coming back at all
I loved this ep! Caitlyn told her story so well and has a great vibe. I can't believe she's only 19/20, she seems so mature!
Thanks again for this success story series. Truly life saving.
So glad you found it 😊 and thanks much for the support!!
What an amazing episode, Daniel. Caitlyn tells it so well, and the part where she talks about the panic attack and then the realization that she could stay in bed, just resting, that there's actually no problem with not sleeping, was so relatable. I couldn't describe it better. I even think of participating in an episode telling my case someday, but people like Caitlyn have already said everything I need to say haha
Brother you definitely need to get on and tell your story. Coach is a great host and he will faciliate a great interview which I am sure of. These interviews from different people give other people who view this channel lots of hope. The more people that tell their story, the more positivity and hope gets spread and we create a thriving "sleep culture".
You should definitely tell your story! All of these recovery stories are so helpful to many 🫶
It was indeed Jonathan, so glad you tuned in. And you know, I’ve found that the guests who felt their story wasn’t so special or that it’s all been said - they have really powerful stories with unique aspects! So yes, if you ever feel like it, just let me know 🙂
Amazing interview guys .. very inspirational
So glad to read this 🙂
Hi Caitlyn, thank you for speaking on this channel, I found it very helpful listening to you.
I wanted to let you know that my insomnia also started because of dating/ feeling excited and then feeling off-the-scale anxious for no apparent reason. I laughed to myself when you said you didn't know anyone else who had experienced that 😅It is so strange, isn't it?
I then began to feel very anxious as soon as I met anyone online or anything like that and pretty much had a breakdown in the winter of 2021 and couldn't sleep, was terrified of my own mind, got really lost. I since began work with a therapist again which is really helping in terms of trying to gain understanding of what things mean to me and why they make me anxious and also learning the invaluable lessons from Daniel on his channels. I have definitely needed both. I now sleep mostly ok, not quite 'enough', but I don't think about it in the same way and this makes a huge difference.
I wish you all the best :)
Daniel am at 0 sleep but i will be fine
I can relate .
Hi Jay! Just wondering if how are you sleeping now?
@@melissasanpablo3493 how are you Melissa? :)
I haven't been on here for a while but I'm experiencing a speedbump and needed some encouragement. Thank you Caitlyn for your story. I have been sleeping so well for the past few months (with the odd rough night here and there). Last night however, the hypnic jerks started up again and they were relentless. Totally triggered my old anxieties as hypnic jerks were my main symptom when my insomnia first started. Can't believe they're back and I'm really hoping I can get back to sleeping well soon...
Lisa, so glad things have gotten easier and just the fact that you know about speed bumps, I think this alone will be really helpful. If you haven’t already, you can check our speed bump playlist, there is a link in the description of any new video. Hang in there and be in touch!
one thing on speed bumps, everytime you had one, know that it is temporary that your mind are in a panic state due to remnants of the past that triggers it and like all emotions, it will return to normal again. In the meantime, be kind to yourself.
@@cloudstrife5487 your comment has come at the best time. I actually have tears in my eyes. I had another sleepless night last night yet, I have managed into work today. I am utterly exhausted and struggling to keep everything in perspective. Over the past 3 weeks these sleepless nights seem to come out of nowhere. I think speedbumps (for me) are psychologically worse than when my insomnia initially began because it is a merry-go-round I feel I shouldn't need to be on again. Thank you again for reaching out. I appreciate it so much.
@@lisakember567 hi Lisa! Just wondering if how are you now?
@@melissasanpablo3493 I am doing pretty well. I sleep well most nights and although my confidence is growing, I still frequently have doubts. Thankfully most nights I prove myself wrong. There is still a little hyperarousal most nights but it is slowly calming down and hopefully it will fade completely in time. It's not an easy road for sure but by using Daniel's natto approach and changing my mindset, my brain is cautiously starting to get it again.
Thank you for your story. All the insights in the different video’s are the primair key. After one year struggeling the last 3 months my sleep is starting to improve and the obsession to talk about it started to faded away. Just like you at some point was so desperate that my life would be ruined forever. For those who also struggle with insomnia watch the latest Alina sleepcoach about ‘pressure’ really helpful. Thanks for all your effort and insights Daniel. Greetings and love Alexander from the Netherlands
Yes it truly shows how the answer to insomnia is the same for all of us. Effortlessness. I’m so happy sleep is getting easier for you :)
Alex, thanks so much for sharing and - so glad to hear this 😊 And thanks much for the support!!
This is exactly what happened to
Me after started talking to
My ex during a divorce it just got me excited and all the pressure of the divorce and my little baby in the middle of it all totally was the Cherry on the cake of hitting me
Off in the direction of stress during night
Sounds like so many things at once, it must have been really difficult… but I’m glad you found this interview and something that resonated
I went through the exact same thing. I got relationship anxiety that turned into insomnia. it’s a sign of OCD because ocd changes themes.
Edit: my boyfriend broke up with me because it got so bad.
wow!! feels so nice to know im not alone in that, but also im so sorry you went through that. i had no idea it was a sign of OCD at the time. i always wondered why none of my friends had insomnia from relationships. i guess that was why!
One thing for me is i actually got better at some point sleeping but I still felt an obsession looking in the mirror thousand times a day just insecurities and I still go out people tell me I look good. I just know I’ll be fine I want to let this all go it’s not easy but I’ll do my best
Knowing this, that you look fine and we just sometimes get an idea we don’t and some relief can come the moment we give in to what we have tried to avoid, looking in the mirror… but that there’s no threat or danger, just a common loop we all have sometimes, this awareness leads where we want to be. You’ll be fine I have no doubts 🙂
Hi Coach and Caitlyn
My question is that with the suffering of sleeplessness nights comes hope that you’ll eventually get past it. The hope however is not letting me have the ‘whatever’ attitude because it keeps reminding me that I can get better. How do I cope in such a situation?
To me, I think hope is tricky because often it means we are hoping to find a way to control sleep…and then we continue to be attached. On the other hand when we see there’s no control to be had… in a way we no longer hope to achieve anything, then that attitude happens by itself
I kinda check my sleep so much that whether am sleeping ot not how to stop that😢
Hila kar sojaoo
Hi Lakshmi, the awareness that this is what happens really is nice, it demystifies. And you know, when we see we have no willful control over our monitoring, but become observers of this monitoring, then the struggle fades and we find peace of mind and peaceful sleep
What is bedtime and how do you access it?
It’s BedTyme, an app on the App Store and Google Play
I dunno call it excitement insomnia
Between 9 days sleepless night i think u got one or two hours someday
This is true, we really sleep more than we think so often!
i definitely did ! just couldnt see it when i was going through it
but um... ummm. ummm. and umm...
I was super nervous dude
You did great and your story will help many people so ignore him!
@@zeusgott06 thank you! Not sure why people like to spread negativity 🙄
You’re story helped me so much!!
Thanks for sharing your story Caitlyn. I received so much from listening to you. As someone who’s 8 years into my own journey and an anxious type it made me feel super hopeful. Recently it’s been the worst it’s ever been and I’m already improving just a little after using the BedTyme app for one week and dipping into Daniels channel here. Stay well, big blessings for you 😊
