    I have civic 2.2 C-TDI from January. And my plan is to keep that car for as much as I can. It is going to hit 320kkm next week for sure, despite of injectors being faulty which will be replaced very soon it is a hell of a good car. Not so comfy as its a civic, but that does not bother me as i am young guy (my first car was citroen xantia which was flying carpet :D). Engine does not take a gram of oil after 7000km its smooth despite injectors being worn out. But it suits me well. Small and agile with good diesel engine 90% driven on highway as i am commuting to work. After sorting out all mechanical aspects I want to give last visual touches an make it usable for years :D

    I had an older model and it was probably the best car I owned, up there with 80s Mercedes for quality. Considering how cheap and old it was it was reliable. The switch gear made lovely clicks. The only thing that started to go wrong was the cruise control but that was pre-electronic so not suprising. The sun-roof design was clever, it could be left open even in the rain for ventilation and the water would magically drain out. The seats were super comfy, the handling was great, it felt safe and planted at 120mph (autobahn). Have now got a civic which is a step down, it's better on fuel and more practical but not as comfy or solid feeling. Also the Civic had to be a manual as the automated manual is really bad! The Accords have proper slushbox autos. These newer Accords dont seem that cheap 2nd hand though, I think people are sticking with them as Honda don't import them anymore.

    Bought a 2005 2.0 VTEC SE Accord, 85k miles on the clock it cost £1900 and I used it to cover so big business miles a couple of years ago. Did 10k miles in four months, no problems at all but traded it for a 2007 CDTi EX model, paid £3k for the better fuel economy and all the toys . That car has now covered another 50k and no problems except a minor diesel leak. Just got back from a trip down to the South of France. Covered 800 miles each way in one hit, the car ate up the miles and is the most comfortable car I have owned.
    FWIW I have owed new cars mostly for the last twenty years and only bought this as a motorway hack, I have had BMWs, Lexus, Range Rover, Mercedes and this is as good as any of them. I will be looking to get one just like your dads when mine finally breaks but that could be some years away.

    For me this is like having a BMW 3 series without the reliability problems. I was gonna go with the BMW 318i E90 until I found out how unreliable the engine is, even though the 318i is a lower insurance group and slightly more fuel efficient and slightly faster, I didn't wanna run into repairs every few months. Ever since I got my Accord CU1 EX 2.0, the only expenditure I had to make was replace the front door speakers as it had come with the driver side door speaker being blown (common issue with that speaker system). Other than that, everything else on the car (especially the driveability) was in brilliant condition and fully working. And the BMW 318i as you said wouldn't have even had half the interior features that this Honda Accord has got. This car is specced to the brim. Shame mine doesn't have a sunroof, though I don't see how I would've found any use for it.

    Great cars, nowadays i'd avoid a diesel due to them all being ULEZ non-compliant but I purchased a 2.4 petrol at the start of the year and absolutely love it. My only real complaint is the satnav is hopeless, even in 2013 I think it would've felt out of date, and there is also no bluetooth audio streaming. And Honda were still installing this dated system up until the car was discontinued in 2015! It's quite a lot of work to convert to an aftermarket stereo but not impossible so it can be fixed, or just go for a phone holder + AUX bluetooth adapter.

All fine now for over 3 years and 99k. I also only use Shell vpower diesel for the additives contained in that fuel. Any other premium fuel would be fine too, steer away from supermarket diesel.

    How is the build quality? Is the interior plastic cheap or is it premium plastic?

    • @spottedmotors
      @spottedmotors  Před 5 měsíci +1

      A tad cheap being honest. It's cheap plastics . Everything works and nothing has fell off or broken. Just hasn't got that quality feel

    Is the i-CTDI less reliable then the i-DTEC?

    • @spottedmotors
      @spottedmotors  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi thanks for your question.
      Ita hard to see if they are less reliable. Depending on how they have been looked after and maintained. The i-CTDI is a fantastic engine. Very very Reliable. But as is the i-DTEC. After milage, id go for The CTDI..
      Cheers Spottedmotors

      You always have the trouble that you have to clean or change your particle filter sonewhere between 80 and 100000 miles when ypu have got the diesel version. That is really costly.

      Correct me if am wrong but I believe the i cdti Diesel engine came with NON DPF, which means 1 less major headache for diesel drivers as DPF problems means expensive repairs!
