Stadiums should have like a 50-year life minimum... renovate don't threaten to relocate. This is getting absurd. There should also be little government funding. Some congressmen should propose a law with a 10% max for all levels of government. Sports teams make so much money that stadiums tend to not benefit the community coffers (as per virtually all studies on the issue). This whole stadium frenzy in North American needs to stop.
I've been there for four games over the years, and my impression each time is that the stadium is just fine. There are no bad sight lines (each time I sat in a different part of the stadium), the atmosphere is great, and I've always enjoyed the experience. If it were up to me, they'd never leave the lakefront. It is part of the identity of the team.
I feel like such a minority opposing this. We've been on the lake forever, I love the lake and I love being a cold weather team. The mentality really has shifted in the last ten years.
The city of Cleveland will never let the Cleveland Browns leave the lake front they will renovations to Cleveland Browns stadium. And the Cleveland Browns will have a 30 year lease again.
I’m with you on that. Playing football in an outdoor environment is much more satisfying and enjoyable than a domed stadium with artificial turf. At this point college football is more exciting than pros if all stadiums are indoors
If the stadium in the thumbnail is a rendering of the proposed new BROWNS stadium 🏟️, I believe it needs a redesign,as this one looks like a Cabela's or Bass Pro Shop, which are awesome stores, and if Jimmy and Dee insist on a domed stadium,it sure as hell should be a retractable roof closed only during thunder and lightning storms that occur during BROWNS games GO BROWNS 👍
Lmao I swear most of These comments have never stepped foot into Cleveland browns stadium. It’s super outdated and it’s sitting in outside in one of the coldest cities in America during the winter. Just a year or so back we had a -8 degree game and they basically had to give tickets away because no one wants too sit in those uncomfortable conditions.
Titans in the same situation as Cleveland and they’re getting a 2 bill new stadium. It’s all about the ownership’s vision of the future of the franchise. Some franchises succeed, some are the browns.
@onlyonezay419 I get that it's outdated, but a 25 year old stadium shouldn't need to be demolished and rebuilt, it should be renovated. Also I hate the "it's cold here" argument. Football is an outdoor winter sport meant to be played in the cold and snow. At this rate football will be a completely indoor sport in 30 years.
So basically, the original Browns played at Cleveland Municipal Stadium for 50 years and then left because of it. Now the new Browns will get their second new stadium in less than 30 years. 😕
Cities need to keep assisting with funding for no other reason than to lock teams into 40+ year leases. It's insane to build new stadiums every 20-30 years
Looks like a nice looking stadium. Outside looks bland but overall it is better than most of the stadiums build in the 90's. Opened in 1999 and Raymond James(Tampa) opened in 1998. RayJay is still okay. 50-50 split between owner and tax payers. 50-50 split in revenues with the tax payers. No, I did not think so. I hope it has to go on a ballot. 1.2B+ is a lot of money to trust shyster Commissioners.
Exactly. But they want to host events year round and that can’t happen in the current situation. I say they suck it up. Every team can’t host the Super Bowl
😂 that stadium is so bland and outdated. It was built before the Browns were a team again so they never got to choose what they wanted. Also they want to host a Super Bowl and other events year round.
People who don’t get it. Brook park is literally 10 miles down the road & since it’s going too Brook park. Most of that money will be paid for by Jimmy if it’s moved too Brook park. The guy in the video didn’t mention that the only way the city of Cleveland would be taxed would be if they make the renovation cost downtown …
I can't imagine the Browns playing anywhere other than the lakefront. I had been to the old stadium several times in the early 90s and it's a scenic and nostalgic location. I recall the seagulls flying around. Sad to see them leave that location if they do.
These cities need to start standing up to these teams and tell them to build it themselves or fuck off. I can see a kansas city or new Orleans but Clevelands stadium is 25 years old.
A domed stadium on the water, and get rid of the airport down there and open hotel, shops and restaurants on the water , and it’ll cause Cleveland to boom with tourism, concerts , sporting events , for year round use . Only thing I think it NEEDS is good ole fashioned grass.
Nothings wrong with the current stadium. I think it’s perfectly fine. I would actually prefer to watch a game outside with the elements compared to one that’s inside and boring.
This is ridiculous. Arrowhead and Highmark (to say nothing of Lambeau) have been around more than twice as long & only now are we getting a new Highmark and potentially a new Chiefs stadium. Replacing stadiums from barely a quarter of a century ago is outrageous, outside of a true dump like what was FedEx Field.
I think the Art Modell law is smart but it doesnt apply here! I saw something somewhere a few weeks back or maybe months and a Lawyer talked about it! Not sure if it was on ESPN or a Podcast on CZcams but I do know dude said that rule or Law was more for if they try and move out of State not to a different part of the City or the outskirts of the city. The rule/law was great for Columbus Crew because Im glad Jimmy and Dee Haslam and the others bought the Crew so they could stay here in Columbus!! But for the case of the Browns it just seems like it wont work. Its not like Brook Park is on the other side of Toledo or in Indiana! If its going to get the Browns a new dome stadium and a surrounding area with bars, restaurants, hotels and parks plus the possibility of a Super Bowl, huge concerts, maybe a Final Four or a College Football Playoff game not to mention all the revenue for the City and State then why not. I understand Cleveland doesnt want to lose that revenue and the Team but if they dont want to pay for it and the State has already said they dont have the money but Brook Park steps up and says they will pay $1.2 or $1.4 billion money talks! This is an interesting twist for sure! @DG you are right near there is it far enough from Cleveland that you think the Modell Rule/Law will be effective?
I would prefer to have a dome in downtown, but Haslam explored that option and it couldn't happen. People act like moving the Browns 15 miles down the road is the same as them moving to Baltimore. The current stadium looks like shit, and they don't own the land the current stadium is on. This is probably a done deal by now.
Brook Park is a suburb of Cleveland right? So, what's the big deal leaving Cleveland? They want to host major events besides the NFL. A lot of these other events can bring in lots of money to the cities. I don't like the taxpayers have to pay half though. These billionaire owners should pay for their own stadiums. The politicians are in bed with the owners you can see the money flowing out of these politicians pockets.
That stadium should NOT have been built at that site, but we had 3 yrs without a team. It's time for this city to make lakefront a TOURIST trap. Needs hotels, restaurants, a boardwalk, etc .. I’m against this move. Football is a game meant to be played outside. Some of the best moments during the season happen when a snowstorm or wind blows through the stadium. It’s probably why packers and bills fans are some of the greatest in the NFL.
They spent a bunch of money on renovations just few years back. The biggest problem is parking in downtown, and the brutal weather on the lake. The amount of money to put a roof on a 25 yr old stadium is not really worth it. Building in the suburbs with lots of parking would be amazing. I love going to Browns games, but every Dec-Jan game I have been to has been absolutely miserable.

They have to put a lot of it underground due to the proximity to the airport.
I dont understand why a 25 year old stadium needs to be replaced. 25 should be considered brand new in stadium years. Do a renovation.
I think the Braves and Falcons both got new stadiums inside that 25 year window. Texas Rangers, too.
