Heads up, I highly recommend everyone planning to play Reverie read through Three and Nine. It's the backstory for some of the new characters. The whole thing is on the wiki, and it's also accessible on the title screen of Reverie.
I looked more into this after editing the video, this has the backstory for C right? I'm surprised there wasn't some advisory to read this before playing the game in the CE tbh.
Well to be honest the novel is collectable in Cold Steel IV, so it has been available for a long time now. I know not everybody reads the novels while playing the games but there it is nevertheless. Nice video though, it’s true NISA puts out good collector’s editions, and i’m sure you’re gonna love the game!

My impressions of this game without spoilers are as follows:
It takes the good mechanics from previous Trails entries and expands upon them. One thing I especially enjoy is the flexibility to customize your characters using orbments and different types of quartz. I'm just now realizing the similarity to equipping materia from Final Fantasy. Upgrading orbments has some similarities to fusion as you can "trade" them to higher quality orbments. In previous entries, the Lost Arts were limited to being obtained once per play through after defeating high level monsters (i.e., Cryptids) but now you can stockpile as many as you want in a single run from chests and shop trading.
The new turn bonus where you can use a craft for 0 cost was a nice touch and being able to add two tagalong characters for the sake of their brave orders adds some depth to strategical approaches.
I was interested in seeing the plot unfold from the different perspectives as it painted a big picture towards climax and conclusion and the biggest surprise was how big the roster ends up being. I'm currently farming for everybody's best equipment and what a grind that is but I have no complaints.
All in all, this game blew my expectations out of the water and I couldn't be more satisfied.

The lore and story of the Trail series is so unique maybe that’s why I enjoy the series so much. I think your Trails shelf is is amazing and is a fantastic way to show off your collection! I didn’t know that certain characters even had figures that even existed. I hope you are enjoying Trails into Reverie I know I am having a blast with it! In my country it gets really hard and expensive to get collector's edition so I'm pleased just getting the physical copies (which are still more expensive than going digital) but I still appreciate seeing other fans getting pretty collections like yours!

I just got here from the Atelier Ryza 3 video. Had to pause that video, a looked for a Trails video. Judging by the channel name alone there was bound to be one. And here we are. Trails review and a collection of Trails collectables any fan would be jealous of.

A great in depth unboxing of Trails of Reverie! I hope your are enjoying your time with the game. I started with Trails of Cold steel 1 and 2 I still need to beat number 3 I don’t know weather or not to continue playing Trails of Cold Steel or start with Trails in the Sky. Other than that keep up the great work and I definitely enjoy your channel!
Thank you! I really adore the Sky games, so if you have the opportunity to play it before diving into Cold Steel 3 I highly recommend it! Estelle is probably my favorite protagonist in all of gaming so seeing her growth from Sky FC to the more recent entries is so satisfying :)
If you're into the lore, the music and overall writing, you should go back. The older games may not look as pretty, but they're equally good, and they're essential if you find the overarching lore interesting and wants to learn more. Things like the history of the world, organizations, strange phenomenon. You will be missing a lot of the puzzle pieces if you skip games.
I did CS1-2 first, playing the original PS3 releases. Then I did the rest chronologically. I actually think this is the best order to play the series. CS1-2 was designed as a new start in the sense that its story is very self-contained and it doesn't expect you to know anything about the previous games, nor does it really spoil the previous games. And it was a huge step forward in the more superficial areas like graphics and english voice acting, which are important for bringing in new players.

Nice unboxing! Just finished Trails from Zero last week, I ordered that VGP reprint of Azure and it’s supposedly gonna arrive later this month! Having a fun time in crossbell and really like the series so far, hope I get to the point where I’ve played enough of the old ones to dig into this title! :)

FYI I hadn’t realized that Stella Glow on 3DS ripped off this game quite a bit w some of the features and style (eg they copied orbaments almost exactly, they’re even called ‘orbs’ lol). SG is one of my fav rpgs, so seeing Zero doing exactly what SG does but better was especially exciting for me :3

I'm about 40-50% through the game and loving it. Really hoping we get the Kuro games soon in the west. Don't want to fall behind Japan more than we have to. Once again thanks for the awesome content. As many channels just focus on negatives and shitting on games it's refreshing to have a positive and enthusiastic channel as yours to watch instead.

I had no idea a Renne figure was coming out, but as soon as you mentioned it, I had to pause and search around to find one left to preorder as she's one of my favorite characters!

I am just finishing up Trails from Zero but I bought reverie now because I didn't want to have trouble finding it later. Hope they start printing higher quantities going forward with the series.
It's probably a good idea to secure a copies in advance for these games, as I think the low print trends will be continuing for NIS releases unfortunately. It seems fairly common practice to print fewer quantities for sequels, and with a series as large as Trails (& many barriers to entry) I can understand why. NISA may start to do more reprints on demand through VGP or some other places, but I have a feeling we'll continue seeing fewer standard copies being circulated in the wild and online.

About 40 hours in, and I think it's been even better than I expected. Certainly continues to improve on the CS arc mechanics.

I feel you! There were a few things I've missed out for my collection as well. But thankfully the series is still going strong so we'll at least have new CEs to look forward to in the future.
Great unboxing! I too love their steelbooks, and was disappointed that the CE of Nayuta will not have one. I was fortunate to receive my PS5 and Switch Reverie CEs about 5 days after the game release. I won’t get a chance to play it for a long while, as I’m working through Trails in the Sky SC Evo.
I was sad that they didn't make a steelbook for Nayuta either, a missed opportunity but hopefully we'll see them released for the Kuro games. It'll give me more time to figure out where I'll display them too 😂 Enjoy your time with Sky SC Evo!!

I pre ordered Reverie for the Switch. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the PS5 version. I'm playing through CS4 right now so I may have Trails burnout after 4 games back to back, but we will see. 😁

I’ve been playing it I love how hard it is I had to go down to easy first time that has ever happened to me in the series I have played the full series spanning the whole play station systems
Oh interesting! I hadn't heard about the difficulty spikes but I do remember some parts of Cold Steel being difficult for me (especially with resource management difficulty in certain parts lol). I'm curious how it'll go once I start it this weekend.
Played the Clouded Leopard Chinese port a while back and it's easily one of my top 3 Trails games. Gameplay wise it's my favourite one~ Hope you enjoy and have a great time!

It's really a fantastic collector's edition for the price!
I brought a physical copy 2 days after it came out, once the CE came in 4 days later I returned the sealed copy from the CE since they are the same. Feels a bit sneaky but hey it's still sealed. I like this CE a lot and also like how Falcom steelbooks have the name on the side like you mentioned, looks nicer imo. Anyway, I've really been enjoying this game especially the Daydreams.

That's so great, they sent you a copy and are recognizing your hard-core love for the series! Hopefully, that means they'll hook you up with future releases haha. Also, definitely not me just casually getting the collectors edition, still not even having dived into the series at all😅. I knew it would be a struggle to get it down the line so decided to just pull the trigger myself.

I got my CE last week, and I was so impressed with it that I decided to pick up Trails in the Sky SC and attempt to finish the series (I started with Cold Steel 1-3, then mid-way through 4 I decided to go back and start from Trails in the Sky). I'll get there....one day
Slowly but surely! This is definitely a series to take at your own pace so you don't get too burned out right away. I really loved Sky SC so hope you enjoy your time in that arc :)

I love Reverie bc it has some great character writing and gameplay and overall action moments. I also have the LE as well but one complaint I have with the game is the box art. If you know you know, that is complete bait and the back on the box should have been the front cover with Lapis, Rean, Lloyd, C, etc. The regular cover looks cool but it is VERY misleading as it is only relevant to a side quest/reminiscence stone. Lol and i dont think this is a spoiler, i wish someone had told me that way i wasnt expecting one thing and got another. It’s just best to know that this game is similar to trails in the sky the 3rd where it only advances overarching narrative a tad but has great lore and character moments

Oh no sorry to hear you missed this one - I recommend checking out The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails CE if you haven't already. They still have copies available the NISA store and it's a cool spinoff for the franchise that doesn't have the same barriers to entry as the mainline games.

i decided to start trails at reverie 😂 but enjoyed it so much i stopped and got cold steel 3&4. i have watched many many plot summaries for cold steel 1&2, sky1-3 and zero/azure. i know its not ideal, but im enjoying the franchises a lot regardless and if i can make good progress, I'll likely work my way back to the other games.
Oh, speaking about the change to the new server, I actually got my CE copy with plushies the day before they sent me an email saying they had shipped and provided me with a tracking number. It did arrive just a week ago, so it was late, but I'm still so behind with the other games that the delay didn't bother me. If I was up-to-date, I would have been frustrated and probably double dipped.
It was unfortunate about the NIS online store changing servers. But, really two weeks in the grand scheme of things is not a huge issue. It's a black eye but black eyes do heal over time. Received my copy roughly the same time frame.

I didn't get that part where you were explaining the difference between PS4 and PS5 versions. Are there different goodies in the bundles or was it in the game?
There's a VR aspect of the game that seems to only be in the PS4 version.
The PS4 is th4e only version that has the VR compatible features in the game. Unfortunately it's not available on the PS5 (or Switch/PC) versions.
I’m retro actively collecting this series. I need to get this one before it’s out of retail and prices jump.
It seems like a lot of the Falcom games (Trails in particular) go out of print quickly so I highly recommend snagging a copy of Reverie sooner rather than later. It's crazy how quickly the Crossbell games sold out, and I have a feeling it'll be getting worse with every new entry in the series 😅
Awesome video. Wow it comes with a hard cover book to read upon all the characters. The characters look very interesting & lovely from what I saw in your vid. You did an excellent job making your vid spoiler free. I looked up this game. It released on July 7, 2023. Your vid it says 18 & but on PlayStation 4 it says this game is rated T for Teen.
Thank you! The PAL region (from the mock up picture I showed of the original design) is actually more strict with certain themes than ESRB rating system - which is why it's 18 over there but T here in the US.

The art book does have some missing artwork that the official visual collection doesn’t have, but it’s unfortunately really small printed, so I think the visual collection is still a better buy if you don’t collect steel books 😅
I've been looking to pick up the visual collection on AmazonJP, good to know there are more illustrations inside that book.

Yes! Those model kits are available on most of the Japanese retailers! I ordered Valimar last year from a US shop but they still haven't shipped it yet, and Ordine I have pre-ordered on AmazonJP.

I wonder why collectors editions that come with a soundtrack CD don't come with a steel book that holds both the game and soundtrack (CD hinges are so fragile and plastic game cases eject game discs when dropped from short distances). It was wise of them to include the extra mini art book, but unwise not to include a bookmark (reading ahead of gameplay may result in spoilers).
I love the Kiseki series specially the "trails in Sky" My personal fav rpg, too bad im still at crossbell arc.😅

One of the nice thing about Trails becoming more recognized in the JRPG space over the years is that we don't have to rely on collector editions for exclusive merch. There are lots of other options nowadays to get some cool things :)

Would you ever consider filming yourself playing one of your games? I suspect it would be hard to determine which one to film. At same time, it may take away from the experience of the game. Is it safe to say you always get emails whenever you order something? Is there a favorite shipping company you use? Since you sometimes have issues with things arriving on time, do you buy insurance in case something does go amiss?
Honestly I should of bought the collectors edition but I just wanted the art book. Also trails into reverie is really good if you play the crossbell duology and cold steel series. Love seeing returnable characters again. Corridor is also amazing
Have you looked into the Japanese art books for Reverie? They are softcover but have a lot of great illustrations.

Trails is one of those series that seems to fit along the kind games I play, but I just haven't. The collector edition looks nice though.
The series is a major time commitment, but if you love fantastic world building & awesome characters, it's one not to miss :)
I sent an email to them the last of June about some changes I'd like to make to my order, but they have not responded back to me yet nearly 3 weeks later.
So I'm going to lose my order and have to pay double MSRP if I want the collector's edition now. Thanks, NIS. 🙃

I've been having an issue with an acrylic print I had ordered from them. I ordered one of their Ys VIII acrylic prints and they sent me the other Ys VIII print instead. Been trying to get this resolved the last three weeks since I received the wrong print, but I haven't gotten any response from them yet...
Oh no, sorry to hear they sent you the wrong print (especially when those things are so expensive too 😭). Hopefully they'll get back to you soon, it seems like they've been slow to respond to just about everyone's emails recently.
@@orbalology Yeah. The price and the fact that their acrylic prints are typically non-exchangeable and non-refundable. I'm just waiting to hear back to find out what my options are (if I have any).

Trails from zero is my first game i am playing in the series. Is Reverie the third instalment to the Zero and Azure series? And do i need to play the whole series? I don't have older system's then a Switch, PS 4 and PS 5.
For Reverie playing all the Crossbell duology and Cold Steel 1-4 is pretty essential, as it wraps up both of the arcs before transitioning into the new Kuro games. You should be able to play Cold Steel on the PS4/5 (though physical copies may be difficult to find outside of PAL regions), and Azure you can pick up at least on the PS4 right now.

I got mine a week ago and sadly the outerbox was a little damaged. I decided to replay the entire series this year and I am currently on Cold Steel 2, so I have not played Reverie yet. As a fellow Trails collector, space sure is going to be an issue for me aswell in the future. I think I have space for 7-8 scale figures and currently I have Rixia. Crow has been shipped, Renne is being shipped soon, reprint of Rean on Preorder. I have Fie on preorder but I am debating if I want her or not. I am personally gonna skip Altina and Emma.
Based on a 2020 japanese vote of the most popular characters in the series. Hopefully we will see Estelle, Loyd, Tio, Randy, Jusis or Machias next.
Oh no sorry to hear your outer box didn't make it safely in the mail. But ugh space is really becoming difficult between all the figures & the pinbox merch! I'm really hoping we'll get at least an Estelle figure - it would be weird if we didn't but I guess you never know with these things 😅
@@orbalology It wasnt that bad, but it got a dent on one side. Sure you never know but so far Kotobukiya have released figures that is on that list. I love pinbox merch. Sadly Its been pretty expensive to buy from pinbox since the UK left European Union. Having to pay 25% extra for each item can get expensive fast, thankfully shipping is not bad. Plus Swedish Sek is weak compared to the UK Pound does not make things easier either.
We sure are living in hard times, everything gets more expensive but we earn the same amount of money as before.

Just picked up Trails from zero and looking forward to diving in. I’ve been playing jrpg’s since childhood, but mostly square enix and other mainline stuff. Do you have any other series that you’d recommend getting into along the lines of Trails? Thanks!
If you want to get more obscure or non-main stream JRPG's I would suggest looking at some of Eric Landon RPG.
theres lots of turn based JRPGS out there but not all of them play like trails or as deep as trails. Ys is a good series to jump into (action JRPG)
Story-wise, it's difficult to compete with how extensive the Trails series is. The only series I think that is somewhat similar is the Xenoblade franchise, but how they tie in together isn't as direct as the Trails games. When it comes to gameplay, I heard someone say how Stella Glow on the 3DS borrowed a lot of elements from the early Trails games. I haven't played it myself but may be worth looking into.
@orbalology I've played Stella glow (good game), but I can't see the link between Stella glow and the trails series, BUT I do see Stella glow having a link with Luminous Arc.
Each of the xenoblade games is a standalone, so you won't need to know much about the previous games.
maybe the atelier games? Each series is compiled of 3 games, and it's less related, if I were to super simplify it, it's fight monsters, farm for materials, and make stuff while investigating the bigger picture.
@@hongluong3427 The Xenoblade games actually have tie-ins to previous entries when you get to the end of each entry, the recent Future Redeemed DLC makes it more obvious how they're all connected.

Do you play CDs on an actual CD player or do you rip them to use on other devices?
I end up ripping all of my CDs, but it's nice to have physical copies of them too :)
Nice unboxing. I wish companies would do something more unique with their collector's editions. Soundtracks and artbooks are nice, but it would be cool if they went in different directions. A replica quartz, some enigma covers, or a CPD badge would be something that says Trails, instead of generic collector's item B.
Unique items can be cool, though I've seen some attempts in previous collector editions and sometimes the trinkets can be a bit on the tacky side. It can be difficult to make high production replicas while maintaining the cheaper price tag. But it would be really cool to see some quartz replicas or something like that! Maybe Falcom can produce some high quality merch at least in Japan but make it easy to import overseas.
Fair enough. I've seen my fair share of tacky replicas as well.
the western special editions is more of a NISA thing rather than a Falcom thing, BUT NISA DID release TOCS3 with a Mishy plush, not to mention the 3 plushies for trails into reverie. Not sure if you purchased or looked into their other games special editions (this list might be a bit long) (steel book, CD and art books are standard those wont be included)

NIS needs to work on their shipping. I had to wait almost a week to get my collector's edition.
I hope they improve on their shipping timeline as well as their customer service sometime soon. They used to be one of the most reliable exclusive shops so it's a shame how much they've dropped the ball within the past year.

I'm a bit sad that it's not getting a steelboook, but maybe the production cost is been difficult for them to maintain their current price structure 🤷♀️

Are you referring to the prices of the aftermarket CEs? Because at retail they're around $100 or less for Falcom games.

I hope you take this as a suggestion for improvement and definitely not a sign of a negative point. Have you ever thought of doing Toastmasters? One thing I noticed is you many times you say (ah, um) and in Toastmasters they help you to improve such point in addition to other public speaking points.
This has been suggested to me before but honestly it's difficult to find the time for another activity. And speaking to a camera is a bit different than interacting with people in a public speaking setting I've noticed 😅
@@orbalology True, but if it's the same in US, Toastmasters clubs have a variety of days and it's once a week taking it at your own pace. Also, you now better about talking to a camera lol but I believe it will help nonetheless.

I've only been loosely following the Kiseki games, but it seems strange that you guys have to wait three years for the NA/English releases when most other games seems to released simultaneously worldwide (or at very least, within a few months of each other.) It's like Falcom is still stuck in the early 2000s >
its not falcom its more to do with NISA doing the localisation and being a smallish developer and publisher they dont have the resources to localise and publish game after game, since they also have to publish their own NIS games as well as, FuRyu, Falcom and Vanillaware etc
Falcom is known to not give localization teams the script of their games until after they release in Japan. IMO this is one of the main reason why there's been such a long delay with the Trails series English localizations.

Oh I can imagine how confusing it was! Unfortunately you'll want to play both Crossbell games (Zero and Azure) along with all the Cold Steel games to understand all the political discourse and character relations 😅

The transition to the new server or site was terrible… just recently found out I missed out on some of my preorders cause they were never charged. I’m hoping they will pull through with this one but who knows. My preorders seem to have disappeared from my account and my points were gone for a while but seem to have transitioned but can only use 5 bucks at a time? Overall I’m disappointed with this transition.
I heard from a few folks of how they lost some of their points through the transition. I noticed my nayuta boundless trails preorder is still not showing up since they switched me over, though they sent an email saying this may be the case for upcoming preorders. So hopefully it'll got resolved eventually....

The Trails ones go out of stock super quickly, so I generally try to preorder as soon as they go up to secure a copy. Following their social media & being on their email list helps with knowing when preorders open.
BUT the game itself is BUGGY as hell unlike the LAST one but that does NOT make the game unplayable even on VERY EASY MODE.
They released patches for Reverie yesterday it looks like. Hopefully that fixes most of the issues.

Starting with zero is a terrrrible idea. You need to have at least played the third (and you can't play that without fc and sc). Otherwise, you rip the emotional heart out of zero, and leave a rather boring game. CS1's a good starting point, tho.
I just wonder about the censorship, considering Nisa localized it.
They simply never learn...
I haven't heard any complaints from fans so far. I think a few were upset with how some names were translated but that's the extent I've seen so far.
@@orbalology Seemingly it is censored tho. That beach mini game thing doesnt seem to work on PS5 at all. However, its unclear if this is censorship or if its a bug.
The PC version is uncensored and supposedly the PS4 version is uncensored as well. Its unclear what the deal is with the Switch version but fact is, the PS5 version had this issue. And who the hell knows about the translations.
Either way, its NISA we are talking about here. They are known for their censorship (they have admitted it themselves) so, i certainly wouldnt support them in any way.
