You can safely play the PS4 version. It's not just a port from Vita. It's got some work done by Falcom themselves. It is basicaly the PS4 version released in Japan but with a translation. Most people won't even notice the upscaled testures from PC/Switch.
It is very noticiable imo, the pc/switch ports also have higher quality character sprites,dynamic shadows and qol improvements. The Ps4 version has more bugs and technical issues too unfortunately.
I mentioned that I was starting to play it, and you replied, saying you hoped I would like it. The first couple hours were a bit slow, but now I'm really into it, and after seeing this video, I was devastated that I didn't have the limited edition of this or of Trails to Azure, especially since I am getting the mega-limited edition with plushies Trails into Reverie, so I managed to track down a decently priced copy of this unopened on eBay and the limited edition of Trails from Azure from a store in the UK... *excited* I was wondering why the Switch edition was so much more expensive than the PS4 edition on eBay... I have the regular deluxe edition for Switch, so I guess I get the both of both worlds from double dipping now. Argh... I wish I had gotten the Azure PS4 limited edition, but I was just happy to get a Switch copy. The prices on eBay for it are insane. I did order the Lil' Lloyd plush because I thought he was so cute, and he looks great sitting on my six Trails games. LOL your channel and my collection envy is costing me a fortune. 😆 I think I'll stick with the regular copies of Cold Steel. One of my favourite games, I don't remember seeing in your collection... did you ever play OMORI? I loved that game so much... I got one of the limited 2nd anniversary art prints ($143) and am going to have it framed... I was devastated when FedEx lost my order, but thankfully, the OMOCAT store had a few left just in case even though they had been sold out for months, so they were able to send another out to me instead of having to refund my money.
I'm glad you were able to get the limited editions! The Switch versions for Zero & Azure are considered the definitive ones over the PS4 due to quality of life improvements so that may explain the price disparities. Switch limited editions tend to retain or become inflated too compared to many PS4 LEs I've noticed too, especially for JPRGs. I haven't played Omori yet but I hear nothing but great things! I'll have to try it out one of these days.

First video I watched of yours was a Vita video and you referenced the Vita Trails boxes behind you which look so cool but have you not done an unboxing or actual showing of those on its own video? I looked and didn’t see one. You should! I would love to see those in more detail. :)
That looks great! I was in the same boat as you - started the geofront version just before the localization announcement, only I was too weak to stop and wait it out. Finally finished Azure last night and it was INCREDIBLE, maybe even better than SC. I'm honestly still too attached to the SSS to move onto Cold Steel, so might just restart completely instead. Have to get this anyway to support the series!

I’m just now getting into the The Legend of Heroes series. I’m starting with Trails from Zero though, forgoing the Sky trilogy as I don’t have a pc. Anxious to receive the limited edition in the mail, same as yours.
Collecting is so much more fun when there is someone else who shares your joy. I've ended up collecting moreso since the pandemic started, but its mostly a solo affair. Also double jump has a copy of trails for switch but too bad their site is down.

Same here, picked up the limited edition on PS4 to match all my Trails and NIS limited edition collection. But I will end up playing it on Steam Deck…and I bought the regular edition for Switch to collect.
Wow these all look really great! I need to get back into this series, I started playing Cold Steel on PC but got sidetracked with other games later. I keep seeing how there’s a preferred order to play these games so I think I’ll look into doing that.
I feel like it's harder to start with the Cold Steel since the first game basically acts like a long and drawn out build up for the rest of the games. For me I found the Sky games a little easier to get sucked into :)
I purchased the trails of cold steel lionheart special edition on ps vita back in 2017 for $55 aud (approx $40 usd) and absolutely loved it! Definitely the most satisfying special edition because off the lovely art book and the extra little space for you to buy the second instalment and keep them together! Just recently purchased trails of cold steel 3 $ 4 for switch and my wallet isn't too impressed with me.. looking forward to an epic trails marathon in the future!!
Wow it’s not every day the Switch gets the superior version of a game! I’ve been meaning to get into this series forever, but never got around to it. I did start Trails in the Sky years ago on PC but never finished it… I should start that over again.
I have yet to open my Cold Steel Limited Editions for 1,2 and IV, missed out on the third one sadly :( but it truly is beautiful and your collection has me jealous as i also missed out on the Trails from Zero / Azure ones though i do plan on remedying that with Trails into Reverie LE for the PS5! I sound like a broken record at this point with how much i comment on your videos but again, stellar work and thank you for sharing your enjoyment with the series as it truly is a gem of a series!

I only got my hands on the Trails of Cold Steel 1 special edition. They just ballooned in price and I had to get the more affordable European standard edition of cold steel 2. Weirdly I got cold steel 3 for about 5 dollars from GameStop!!
It looks like most retailers are going to have them back in stock sometime next week so if my Gamestop order continues to sit there I may need to cancel & try Amazon/elsewhere 😅

Yeah NISA has some well priced limited edition options available though I've been noticing that they've increased their prices for upcoming releases so they may not be too far from Nintendo now 😅 And I hope you give Trails from Zero a try! You mentioned enjoying DQXI last time and I have a feeling you'll enjoy the characters & story in the Trails franchise. The combat is a nice take on the traditional turn-base system too imo.

I finished DQXIS last weekend. I totally loved it, and the plot twist in the post game were insane. I think it’s the game I’ve enjoyed the most on switch so far, even more than PLA. Approximately 100 hours. If trails franchise is similar I may like it
This video answered my biggest outstanding question (that I was too lazy to Google): Can you iron those cloth posters? So glad to hear you can! I used a fabric steamer on my Cold Steel IV poster, but I think a good ironing will get it the rest of the way. Thanks!
Yup you can totally iron the cloth posters! Just be careful with the heat setting & consider taking some of the precautions I mentioned with ironing on the off-side & placing a sheet/towel inbetween :)
So frustrating my last 4 preorders never came in at a GameStop and still just never did so I had to scramble to find copies elsewhere but my bayonetta did come on today I can’t wait and hope they come in is deaths door special edition and bayonetta 3 trinity edition

Bayonetta physical on switch releases today and seems that a lot of places didn’t get any in, even for preorders. I’ve been noticing this happening as of late on games that aren’t the huge releases.
Oof yeah idk if the delays have to do with supply chain issues or something else entirely. But it's been rather disappointing that this continues to keep happening :(
This is a very good series I’ve played and beaten almost all of them between psp and vita but there is some I missed because of the vita ending and me missing them can you do a play through
I follow NISA's Twitter account and look out of their emails announcing when preorders open. They don't charge your card until it's closer to the shipping date so I place my preorders asap.

I hope someday we'll see the other games brought over to the Switch. Xseed, NISA, and Falcom just need to work out whatever issues they currently have and collaborate 😅

showing trails in the sky evolution when saying to start with it is not really a viable option, i don't thinki its available outside of japan and you will need to mod translation for it, trails in the sky original wich is a pc game (and i think also ported to consoles?) is where you want to start as it easier to get outside japan.
In the video I said that you can start Sky FC on either a modded vita, steam deck, or PC. But if those are not viable options to try the first games in the other arcs. I just showed a photo of evolution because that was the version I originally played.
It's disappointing that this keeps happening, not just with this game but a few others that have released recently. It's weird that these companies can't fulfil pre-orders but I suppose there may be some supply chain issues or something else hindering the release day schedule.
@@orbalology I wonder how this extended time of production delays is going to influence buying trends in the future if at all. Hopefully things get back to pre covid levels soon.
@@orbalology An all digital or games as a subscription future do worry me. Thankfully the US is a big enough market with bad enough internet access that I think it's still a little ways off.
I may consider doing that in the future. But tbh setting those up & editing will take away more time from just playing on my own, which is already getting a bit stretched thin as it is 😅
I haven't been so hot with PlayStation lately despite being a big fan (Preferring NSW over PS4/5 and PS abandoning Japan) so when I found out NIS & Falcom decided to go with the inferior port of Zero I canceled both Zero and Azure CEs directly expressing my displeasure to NIS about not being up front about the disparity between the two versions. I had a friend contact them inquiring if they could have her CE preorders moved over to Switch versions and NIS did it without hesitation. I think they are aware of the poor mindshare they hold right now. So I ordered a NSW standard copy of Zero and will be moving the series over to Nintendo's platform. Yippee! I'll have to hunt down Cold Steel III and IV all over again. I'll just get Sky - CSII on Steam, I mean its the only use I have for my neglected gaming PCs anyway... Falcom games. Sucks their games are in licensing hell in NoA almost rivaling Aniplex (A lot of similarities really if you think about it especially with Exseed). Speaking of which a lot of the older Ys and Legend of Heroes seem to be locked behind Exseed's licensing. I am not about NIS' current practices but I'd gladly support them more if they provided more transparency, respect and trusted fans and released ALL the Falcom games in the West! I need Ys Books/Chronicles I & II on modern consoles!!!!!!!! AND Ys Ark of Napishtim!!!!! The collector's edition looks pretty cool and I agree the box size is nice. I haven't received my Zero GameStop order yet but I am just outside of where Ian hit so everything from Zero to XC3s SE has been delayed and is being held at distributor facilities. I won't be playing it anytime soon though as I haven't started the series myself but I intend to play through it all in 30 years or so when Falcom's narrative writers finally get writer's block and allow the West to catch up. I wonder if by the time the current Kiseki games get localized if Nintendo's next generation console will be out and handle the ports exceptionally well. I mean that is the hope.
Oh I would love to see the older Ys games brought to modern systems too. It would truly be a shame if all this licensing issues will bury these titles for a long time. And I hope NISA gets their act together, all these small slights are starting to really weigh down on the fans.
@@orbalology Update: Well it looks like I'll be tracking down the CEs for NSW now. NIS suddenly dropped limited stock of Zero CEs today and I grabbed the NSW version. I don't know if I'll be as lucky with Azure and Reverie though. I know NIS Azure invoices are going out right now. I really thought I was going to stick to the standard copies but I am often volatile and here I am nearly 5 months later with a CE in hand.

This is a very good series I’ve played and beaten almost all of them between psp and vita but there is some I missed because of the vita ending and me missing them can you do a play through

Any tips for scoring limited editions? They seem to sell out quick on NISA site
I follow NISA's Twitter account and look out of their emails announcing when preorders open. They don't charge your card until it's closer to the shipping date so I place my preorders asap.
Did you try target for the switch version? That’s where I got it from, although did preorder back in like June-ish.
They have about a week shipping estimate so I may try there if I continue not to hear anything about my GameStop order.

I hope someday we'll see the other games brought over to the Switch. Xseed, NISA, and Falcom just need to work out whatever issues they currently have and collaborate 😅
@@orbalology I sure wish they would because when companies don't work together to release these games that everybody wants all it does is hurt gamers whatever the legal ramifications or issues they have to go through is totally worth it if it lets everybody to enjoy these games all around the world

showing trails in the sky evolution when saying to start with it is not really a viable option, i don't thinki its available outside of japan and you will need to mod translation for it, trails in the sky original wich is a pc game (and i think also ported to consoles?) is where you want to start as it easier to get outside japan.
In the video I said that you can start Sky FC on either a modded vita, steam deck, or PC. But if those are not viable options to try the first games in the other arcs. I just showed a photo of evolution because that was the version I originally played.
Sucks about the switch edition coming out later. Hope your wait isn't too much longer.
It's disappointing that this keeps happening, not just with this game but a few others that have released recently. It's weird that these companies can't fulfil pre-orders but I suppose there may be some supply chain issues or something else hindering the release day schedule.
@@orbalology I wonder how this extended time of production delays is going to influence buying trends in the future if at all. Hopefully things get back to pre covid levels soon.
idk, it all feels like some companies are really pushing for digital with these physical delays and it's not ideal :(
@@orbalology An all digital or games as a subscription future do worry me. Thankfully the US is a big enough market with bad enough internet access that I think it's still a little ways off.

I haven't been so hot with PlayStation lately despite being a big fan (Preferring NSW over PS4/5 and PS abandoning Japan) so when I found out NIS & Falcom decided to go with the inferior port of Zero I canceled both Zero and Azure CEs directly expressing my displeasure to NIS about not being up front about the disparity between the two versions. I had a friend contact them inquiring if they could have her CE preorders moved over to Switch versions and NIS did it without hesitation. I think they are aware of the poor mindshare they hold right now.
So I ordered a NSW standard copy of Zero and will be moving the series over to Nintendo's platform. Yippee! I'll have to hunt down Cold Steel III and IV all over again. I'll just get Sky - CSII on Steam, I mean its the only use I have for my neglected gaming PCs anyway... Falcom games. Sucks their games are in licensing hell in NoA almost rivaling Aniplex (A lot of similarities really if you think about it especially with Exseed). Speaking of which a lot of the older Ys and Legend of Heroes seem to be locked behind Exseed's licensing. I am not about NIS' current practices but I'd gladly support them more if they provided more transparency, respect and trusted fans and released ALL the Falcom games in the West! I need Ys Books/Chronicles I & II on modern consoles!!!!!!!! AND Ys Ark of Napishtim!!!!!
The collector's edition looks pretty cool and I agree the box size is nice. I haven't received my Zero GameStop order yet but I am just outside of where Ian hit so everything from Zero to XC3s SE has been delayed and is being held at distributor facilities. I won't be playing it anytime soon though as I haven't started the series myself but I intend to play through it all in 30 years or so when Falcom's narrative writers finally get writer's block and allow the West to catch up. I wonder if by the time the current Kiseki games get localized if Nintendo's next generation console will be out and handle the ports exceptionally well. I mean that is the hope.
Oh I would love to see the older Ys games brought to modern systems too. It would truly be a shame if all this licensing issues will bury these titles for a long time. And I hope NISA gets their act together, all these small slights are starting to really weigh down on the fans.
@@orbalology Update: Well it looks like I'll be tracking down the CEs for NSW now. NIS suddenly dropped limited stock of Zero CEs today and I grabbed the NSW version. I don't know if I'll be as lucky with Azure and Reverie though. I know NIS Azure invoices are going out right now. I really thought I was going to stick to the standard copies but I am often volatile and here I am nearly 5 months later with a CE in hand.
Awesome unboxing of all your special editions. I ordered my switch version of Trails from zero from target, hopefully it comes Thurs like says, I'm excited to play it! Also I think you should wait to play the switch version if you ask me, since it is the better version, if you can wait of course. Keep up the great content! 👍
