I can't help but think a high revving NA engine would suit this better.
Agreed. I believe the earlier versions used an NA engine
High revving NA engines suit every sports car better
yea older ariel atoms came with 2l honda k20z3 from civic si (200hp).
K24 would suit the character of the car perfectly
Well they made the Ariel Atom V8 using 2 Hayabusa engines, 10,600 RPM redline. I’d like to see a Ferrari 360 drivetrain stuffed in one of these.
Im building a k24 exocet which would be similar to this. 1500lbs and 230whp for about 25k all in.
That's awesome
How much of the work are you doing yourself ?
Do you live near good clear roads ?
Are you planning to document the process? I need to convince my friend to do this to his lol
@@SlokeyPokey Na, im not good at the video stuff
@@Highlander1432 All of it. Yes I live next to some amazing backroads
@z06camaro very impressive
Maybe you will post a video on your channel some time
:)
An open wheel cassis is the most sexy thing on the road. The Airiel is a car I've always wanted to experience. Absolute pinnacle of a tactile nut gripping performance.
I use to race karts for fun. Even tried the superfast shifter ones back in the day. This lind of reminds me of those. On the track they were fun. The sensation of speed was crazy compared to actual mph. These are closer to open wheel race cars then actual road cars. Not surprised its the most exciting you have driven.
I’ve got one on order. Really excited to take delivery.
I loved the Atom 500 V8. Dual Hayabusa motorcycle engines Siamesed at the crank, and paddle shifters! WOW!
Haha! Wonderful and fun review and video! I've had a passenger ride in one of the original 200bhp Atoms, on overly heat cycled tyres (i.e. with not much grip) on the track, and it was mind blowing. The newer and higher horsepower models must be ludicrous. I remember when reviews started coming out for the Atom 4, and words like "refined", "capable" etc were being thrown about like it was much better, but also maybe gone a little soft...I guess everything is relative ;)
Sadly I don't think you can make a Atom road legal in NZ where I am from. I have seen one on the road and it was a horrible garden shed modified one (in order to get it road compliant) and not the same.
This was very entertaining man, thank you!
For something as raw as visceral, Caterham 620R? Or here is a challenge for you...find someone to let you review their BAC Mono!
Never seen you emote like that. THIS LOOKS WILD!!!!
Love it! But that blow off valve would eventually get very annoying! Can these be had with NA engine?
older ariel atoms had honda na k20z3 engine from civic si (200hp). i dont know much about other versions, but it can go up to V8.
@@RaferAlstonAkaLAZIO weren't they supercharged though?
@@gdmcgill both were available
@@RaferAlstonAkaLAZIO ah ok, I didn't know that. Thanks!
I have one,
It doesn’t.
that turbo sound is crazy
Can't believe you're 45 and still able to send it this hard!
LOL Kevin is such a troll
Zygrene looks so good for his age he must be using a blood boy for young blood transfusions
@@CarsMeetsBikesI bet this is a thing if your super rich
He’s an inspiration for us all 👴🏼
I get tears of joy this is my childhood dream car and watching this makes me so happy I never knew this where in the US and I'd never thought I'd make as much as I do I have about a year befor I make my deposit I can't wait
See if you can get your hands on one of the v8 ones lol, they made a limited run of Ariel atoms with a motorcycle engine based v8 in it and crazy aero all over it
when matt farah reviewed a locost, if im not mistaken, he said it handles better than an atom
Holy Rocket-Sled! That's incredible. Words I did not hear? DAILY DRIVER! Hahahaha!
Does the car have the auto rev-match on downshift like the Type-r or not?
A well set up Exocet get you pretty close… the refinement might be there, but the fizz and sense of occasion sure is
I've driven the Ariel Atom V8 and I think that was even more insane. It felt like it was going to do a wheelie every time it accelerated.
Does Peter still have the exige?
Inboard suspension and K-powrrr. Let's GOOOO! 😱
...but less downforce due to less body panels, so be careful 😧
Although much faster, this has a drag coefficient of .40 compared to my Cayman .29 (better). Kinda funny, but makes sense.
BAC Mono?
Can you run that through the gas station car wash?
I want to drive an Atom but I'm also worried it will ruin every car I subsequently drive. Have had a similar experience after owning a tuned NA Miata. Everything now feels big and heavy compared to the Miata. Lightweight or bust.
Side note, who makes those gloves? I want some lightweight driving gloves for my Alcantara steering wheel.
Try some golf gloves
@@toddsmith8608 leather golf gloves don't breathe and get hot. I could use thin mountain biking gloves but was hoping for something more purpose built
same experience I have with my GD WRX, actually. No new car can compare or match its incredible rawness and experience.
Am I the only one that thinks a rotary engine would be perfect for one of these?
Yeah?
Okay...
nope
Rotary engine would be very interesting... I would like to build a exocet with a Rotary engine
@@h.j.victory6103 Good point. I didn't even make it this far in my head before. With the Atom using transverse engine options, you'd almost have to use an Exocet/7/Locust longitudinal platforms to incorporate an off the shelf Rotary option.
The only thing more extreme is a Lightning LS-218 or a 6 second pro street car haha!
i just love how they keep everything exposed on purpose
I am curious, how's the owner able to insure the car?
Is there a category in the states that covers him?
I think it's just a regular car. Nothing special really.
essence what car should be
3:53 Did anyone else think 'Fenton' ?
That blowoff noise is beyond annoying. Would ve my first mod.
It's 110K by the time I'm done specing it out.
That Integra S is gonna feel like an S Class after this
This is too true. I recently spent some time driving a U-Haul across half the country, and felt absolutely pampered getting back into my 100k mile E90.🤣
I don’t see why they don’t do a fiberglass body with a storage compartment doesn’t even need doors that open or a roof & it would be almost no weight penalty and could even be more aerodynamic and would actually be able to be compared to actual cars
What a great idea. Maybe you should open up your own car company and pave way to your amazing never before thought of insight. 😂 good luck!
@@SlokeyPokey you are so right! it would be much easier to start from scratch with 0 budget than it would be for a company that already has a fantastic product to add a body🤦 people that think like you are what is holding back the human race. hrrrr ka drrrr jUsT bUilD it yoUr SelF 🙄
Probably the closest thing to a 1000cc sportbike on 4 wheels. As you describe how viseral it is and vibrations and heat.
I’ve got a panigale V4s and an S2000 and the S2000 is surprisingly more exciting, it’s partly because I’ve grown up racing bikes so I’ve very comfortable on them but with bikes regardless of how fast they are, you kind of get sucked along with them and you’re changing gears, accelerating and braking all in a very fluid motion without thinking, also helmets make you quite restricted with field of vision and the feeling of exposure.
A raw car like this would be way more exhilarating, it’s a whole body experience and the sensation of speed/exposure would be A LOT greater than a superbike.
Well this was fun to watch. What's next, some motorcycles perhaps?
No motorcycles for me. 3 wheels at a minimum.
@@Zygrene No worries, we all like what we like.
@@Zygrenefind yourself a Rush SR1 to review on the track. Absolute monster on the budget
@@Zygrene Morgan 3 wheeler! haha!
That’s pretty extreme lol
Lose the turbo-based engine and that valve .. then I could see acquiring one.
imagine a a Cosworth 8k rpm 4 cyl in that thing..
Why ? A 200 bhp yb from 30 plus years ago . No thanks
This should be driven with a helmet on, regardless of the windshield.
Anybody over 50 has to be laughing at being forced to shift by sound
Try a caterham please.
I really want to. And BAC Mono.
Not in the same league.
Its sound is cool but it is annoying after an hour.
The people that complain about the turbo noises of this car are the same people that would need to ask permission from their wife's boyfriend to buy/drive it.
Would be better with a supercharger.
Precious model
Sounds amazing but I can see why it would make you deaf
Who else is here from forza horizon 😂
I would never drive a fast car, nevermind the Atom on a canyon road. You are asking to fly off the cliff. Go to a track and do it safely.
Lmao 🤣
