After that it starts getting a little controversial. Most people would probably say Peyton Manning. But #4 is where it starts getting really spicy. You could make a solid argument for so many, from Brees or Rodgers, to some of the old school guys like Montana or Bradshaw.

When a team goes 3 and out 3 times in a row, it might have something to do with the other teams defense.
Spags and Chiefs D players were the difference all year long...VERY VERY good...even when they lost to Raiders I was like..this Chiefs D is something else!

49er offensive line aside from #71 is not really that great. Sometimes Chiefs DL go unmarked
Yes. RG Jon Feliciano got injured and Spencer Burford replaced him. Not only is Burford not as good, but also breaks their communication - easier to confuse assignments, etc. So yes, big advantage for Chiefs (in addition to the huge advantage they got when Dre Greenlaw went out, opening up the middle of the field for Mahomes).

*Lost the recovery of the punt that hit the back of Darrell Luter's heel. If only Ray-Ray would've fallen on the ball instead of trying to scoop it up. He forgot the #1 priority: BALL SECURITY.
*Dre Greenlaw's injury that opened up the middle of the field and allowed big crossing plays and big runs by Mahomes to convert and keep Chiefs scoring drives alive.
*CMC's fumble. Chiefs didn't score on it, but we had momentum and were moving the ball - deprived us from a scoring drive when we had their defense on their heels.
*9 D-line rush pressures on Purdy with 9 free untouched blitzers. Missed O-line blocking assignments galore. If just one of them instead blocked Chris Jones... Aiyuk WIDE open in the EZ, Jennings and CMC also open on the play - a TD for sure.
Rich you are ignoring who Mahomes is. You give him the ball first in overtime because he plays like a normal human, but giving him the ball with the game on the line?? When does that ever work? You beat him by winning while he is sitting on the sidelines….
Mahomes played like crap most of the game and 49ers choked again. 49ers were the better team but look who is the coach...kyle shanahan. The choke artist himself

It's really hard to beat Mahomes when he is coming back late in a game, but impossible when he's got 4 downs to work with. Shanahan will never win a Super Bowl, 0-3 if you count his Atlanta choke job.

Brockman is absolutely right on Shanahan. He has lost three Super Bowls making the exact same mistakes. He just doesn't learn, and that means it will never improve, and the Niners will never win a Super Bowl with him.
Shanahan got away from it in the first half of the 3rd and got back on track. I actually liked shanahan in this game. Thought he called the game very well in the 4th and OT
He was an assistant with the Falcons; that loss is on the HC.

Manning is not mt. rushmore. He did not win enough. He is probably the best field general / oc on the field ever (brady got almost as good in the last 5 years of his career as well) - however, he was a perennial loser in the playoffs, and got absolutely carried for his last ring. Brady Montana Mahomes are locks. after that, its debateable.

I'm just going to say, all the Chiefs haters I understand you and I feel you but as a die hard KC fan, born and raised in the area i am ecstatic and will never take this for granted. I've been there to support my team through all the 2 and 4 win seasons, the 30+ year playoff win drought and the 50 year Super Bowl drought and while I am extremely elated right now I for once completely understand why I despised the patriots for all those years. But I can't help be on cloud nine. Enjoy this while we can Chiefs Fans! Nothing lasts forever but we can enjoy it while it is here

As a Niners fan I can’t really do this anymore. I was 1 in 94. I love them, but this is the one that has left me despondent. It’s unhealthy three times running thinking we will win, and then losing. 12 was so close but we will be back. 19 was just anger. This one is just back breaking. Stepping away for a bit.
The 49ers did lose it. Muffed punt doesn’t happen, Niners win. Chiefs weren’t able to drive. Also, if Greenlaw doesn’t have a freak injury.
It wasn’t easy being a Chiefs fan since 1989….It was actually heartbreaking and I also thought it was unfair to have to watch them lose in the playoffs every year if they made it! 49ers are a great organization and will win another SB in your life time 🤟😉

Actually, I saw Chris’s prediction about Jason Kelce on another show today. Pat McAfee and the Boys were talking about Kelce replacing the Chief’s current center, since Kelce’s snaps are cleaner.
I wonder if Creed Humphrey can play right tackle. Not that it can be overstated how much more discipline Jawaan Taylor displayed in the playoffs than in the regular season.
Mahomes won it AND SF coaching lost it (yes, even w/ a couple SF player mistakes the game could still have been theirs). So answer to question #1 is both. Here's some free advise to Shannahan...you have McCafferey. Give him the ball.
he had 30 carries dude lol.. his yards per rush dropped dramatically after Spags adjusted. at the start of that second half they knew what San Fran wanted to do. those 2nd &3-4 became 2nd &9-10. Deebo was neutralized and Kittle had 1 target. You don’t beat championship DNA with 1 guy. San Fran isn’t built like that. Not to mention KC lead the league with tipped passes at the line. So those swing routes to McCaffrey weren’t going to work anymore. CM3 is a beast but EVERYONE gets tired. Why would you run him into the ground in the 3rd quarter when there’s another quarter left to play ? That’s how guys get hurt. So he tried to spread the love. Which worked btw. They went up by 3. And had his lineman not completely blown his assignment on Chris Jones they would have had a wide open TD to Jennings to win the game. A play called by who ? O yea, Kyle Shanahan. It took a blocked field goal, a fluke punt that hit a guy in the damn ankle, a tipped pass with the game on the line, and a 75 yard game winning drive by (arguably) the best QB ever made. I’m a KC fan but this is the problem when novice fans have opinions on stuff they don’t understand. Kyle called an amazing game. He just lost to a 3 headed monster. All you guys understand is QB throw, coach make call. Win/Lose on 1 play 🤦🏾♂️
@@jerraddennis2225 Agreed. Also, people are not discussing the huge impact of Dre Greenlaw leaving injured that essentially opened up the middle of the field for Reid and Mahomes. Greenlaw was replaced by Oren Burks who's good but doesn't have Greenlaw's speed and instincts. Reid/Mahomes smartly smelled blood and targeted Burks: 9 passes, 9 completions. Also, no way would Mahomes have run up the middle for all that yardage with Greenlaw there, resulting in conversions and continuing drives. I'll go as far as to say if Greenlaw didn't get injured and stayed in the game then the 49ers win. Taking away the one deep pass to Hardman (that should've been intercepted but Gipson lost the ball in the lights), the Chiefs were held to 2.5 yards/play before Greenlaw left. Greenlaw was having an incredible game before the injury.

And he had it in hand AGAIN.. Until a minute left in overtime. Did he call a flawless game ? No. But considering Debo and Kittle were completely washed out of the game, losing your QB2 on defense, and playing the #1 or 2 defense in the Super Bowl with a second year QB and it coming down to 3 or 4 plays is insanely impressive.
Everybody keeps talking about Shanahans Super Bowl meltdowns without mentioning he lost those games to Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid. Don’t get me wrong i have my issues with him and adjusting on time, but it’s not the worst thing in the world losing to those guys.

I told my wife last night they should have the SB in Vegas every year too. I get the “fairness” element, but it just makes so much sense logistically to have it there every year.
Fairness of what? Like for the other cities economy’s? If it’s about the money then I see the point but if it’s not “fair” because the Raiders would get home field, you don’t need to worry about that probably for a long time.
Jason could definitely play for the Chiefs. It's a great call. Thing is, Jason doesn't need to be a starter. Best backup you could possibly have. AND, what an amazing player/coach to have on the team. Great call Chris

Reminder, in 2017 the Niners had the 3rd overall pick. They looked at the draft and said, "Gimmie some Jimmy G" Chiefs moved up to 10 and took Mahomes. Ironically Buffalo traded that pick to KC. Niners and Bills fans are suffering and will cintinue to suffer for these decisions.
Chris - Comes across as being right. Rich - comes across as someone knowing he has to interact with these guys with NFL Network next year.
These are some wild takes from Chris. If one play is different and the 49ers win this game, this entire conversation would be different. Shanahan showed that he has what it takes to win this game and so did Purdy. People forget that shanahan has had to play Brady and Mahomes in the superbowls. Take some of the greatest coaches of all time and they’ll also have a hard time winning one against that slate. It just happened to tick the chiefs way. Shanahan has taken a team to the SB 3 of the last 8 years. He’s gonna get one eventually. Don’t forget that Ppl were talking like this about Andy Reid before 4 years ago

Shanahan didn’t call plays against Mahomes but against KC defense or Stephen Spagnuolo and Bill Belichick.

Niners were 3 of 12 on third down. Purdy completed a pedestrian 61% of his passes. CMC was the leading Niners receiver. Samuel was irrelevant. Kittle nonexistent. Purdy only threw for 255 yards in basically 5 quarters of play. They faced the WORST offense of the Mahomes era. Chiefs have a mefiocre O Line, HOF TE, a #1 WR who would be a 2 on any other team and a bunch of unreliable veterans. Niners still couldn't get it done.
@felixrodriguez7423 Chiefs defense is absolutely nasty, I was telling my fam before the game that KC would be 19-1 if our offense put up 25 points this season in every game and 25 would be all they needed to get out of there with a W and that's exactly what happened.

I'd take Elway as #4, took 3 okay-to-good teams to SBs, lost, but was Captain Comeback in the AFC, THEN took 2 teams to the SB and won in 1997/98, the '98 team being one of the Top 10 SB winners ever. 80s Elway ELEVATED OTHER PLAYERS, did more with less (Bradshaw won 4 with a stacked team) and was one of the first great "running QBs", he walked so Mahomes could run. 1. Brady, 2. Montana, 3. Mahomes (as of now), 4. Elway.
Jason didn’t play Oline until he was in collage he’s not switching from Center.
We could put Creed at Guard for a season and let him learn from Jason.

I only made 1 bet on this game. I grabbed the Chiefs at +300 when they were down 10-0. My plan was to follow that with a bet on SF if I could get them at +200 or better but it just never got there.
As chiefs, and Kelce brother fan, I would lose my mind if Jason Kelce came to Kansas City. I don't see it happening though, I think he's too loyal to leave Philly. I think he hasen't annouced hius retirement because he wants to give it one more season.

Yes, Mahomes is part of Reid’s success, but it didn’t happen until Mahomes’ third year as a starter. Reid had to accumulate the hard learned lessons to become not only a superlative scheme designer combined with play calling that appears magical.
And remember what happened when the Niners burned Harbaugh. Who would replace Shanahan.

As a 49 ers fan i thought Chris Jones DT was the MVP. He rushed and got hands on the ball at the exact moment when the play was needed. That last rush/ blitz on Purdy was the smack down for us. Thats the play that inspired Mahomes to make that last clutch run up the field.

I honestly think that the legalization of gambling has led to a lot of aggression towards certain teams that constantly lose them money. I can’t remember who, but some sports guy was complaining that the chiefs list him $50,000 this year.
I also think it’s the major reason for the preponderance of ‘rigged’ we’re seeing in the comments. It’s people who’ve lost money & can’t accept that they were dumb to spend money they didn’t have & that it’s not their fault, so it must be rigged, lol..

I agree that Jason kelce should become the Chiefs center, as the current Chiefs center had 4-5 poor snaps to Mahomes, and Kelce would be an immediate upgrade.
In Baltimore Humphrey was practically rolling the ball to Mahomes. But I don't think an ancient Jason Kelce is the answer.

The discussion on overtime rules & Shanahans decisions shows the "Mahomes factor" (much like Brady) is in the heads of decision makers and what they decide.

Otto Graham played 10 seasons and won 7 championships, playing in the championship each year. He played when there was no roughing the Brady rule, QBs werent protected and receivers could be clotheslined. Oh yeah. Graham has a National Basketball Leauge championship too.
The biggest reason to take the ball first in OT is if it's tied after the first two possessions the team that got the ball first now has the ball in sudden death.

Chris that Kelce take is not a MORANIC take. I love that idea. Let the Kelce brothers work together and get that ring together. I am down with this idea a lot. Creed is the Center no doubt, you are right he could play guard, he could move to the tackles but that is a bit much asking him to do that. But also you get added depth in the worst case that Creed goes down. This is a great idea, I was thinking he was still under contract so I was proposing the Chiefs send a 3rd or a 4th to Philly for Kelce. But if he is a free agent. GO get him Veach!!!!

@@THEROOSTER92420 #52 has been far from the best center in the league this year. He's snapped the ball on the ground or really low waaaay too many times. It's messed up quite a few plays. He *had* been the best center previously, yes.

We knew what we had to do in overtime. Score a touchdown. So my only critique on the overtime drive is on the 3rd and 4, maybe you run it. Convert it or get 4th and very short. Play for the first down and try to keep the drive alive
Spagnuolo came out and said Purdy was shredding their Zone coverage in the first half. That doesn't happen if he's not an elite QB. What happened in the the 3rd quarter is the KC defense switched to man coverage and SF didn't have answers for it. They tried to play more drop back passes to beat the man coverage but guys weren't getting open fast enough and the protection wasn't holding up.
Hell, on the last SF pass of the game both JJ and Aiyuk were wide open (Aiyuk in the endzone), but Purdy had no time to throw.
Defense won it especially in the fourth quarter when the niners had the ball for a long time and still had enough energy to finish the overtime to hold back Purdy
Chris Jones has made big play after big play for KC through the years but when you have Mahomes you can't pay a premium for that position. They will pay Bolton when he comes up and they will pay McDuffy but Jones is too expensive.

To be honest, it was the special teams crew who won the SB for KC. If they wouldn’t blocked that extra point the score would’ve been 20-16 and they had to go for a TD with way lower odds.
There are so many things that swayed this game. McCaffery's fumble. The blocked kick. The muffed punt. Those things don't happen, the 49ers are in a different position. But you have to deal with those things as they come and adjust and step up.
There is something to Rich’s point about putting SF’s defense out on the field first in OT.

Jauan Jennings was one Chris Jones pressure away from being the MVP with two reception TD's and a passing TD.

Travis and Jason have never been on the field at the same time. Travis played QB as a kid and Jason played LB. In college Jason moved to o line and Travis moved to TE but Travis got suspended for Jason’s last year. I think that how the story goes.

Purdy's 3rd down pass conversion late in game was tremendous.
Unfortunately that was one of only 3 3rd down conversions the 49ers had, one of the biggest reasons why they lost

He is a very, very highly paid player for his position that would be going to a team that has spent all its money on the QB.

I’m ok with taking the OT ball. Biggest head scratcher for me is not even contemplating going on that 4th and 4. At least run down the play clock try to get an offsides, burn a timeout, give the D a bit more air and think it over. I’m with Chris, I didn’t want to think it but yeah as soon as I saw the fg unit come out my faith in a niner win almost completely evaporated.
Could say if this, if that for any game, win or lose. What if Purdy pass is actually picked off against packers, then niners not even in this game. What if Campbell kicks field goal in third quarter, maybe niners don’t comeback. Played a great first half but offense sputtered in third quarter.
