I first heard this song in September 2003. I was sitting in the Best Buy parking lot at 9:30am because I had drove across town to buy this album when it dropped. I was sitting in my 2002 Midnight Blue SS Monte Carlo with the best speakers I’d ever had at the time, in the cool morning rain, listening to the whole album from start to finish. I fell in love with the story instantly, every song spoke to me on a deeply personal level. But when track #3 hit, the hair on the back of my neck stood up and my spine began to vibrate with the sounds of the drums. I’ve always known MJK has the most heavenly voice in all human existence, but when I heard him sing THIS song for the first time… I FKN WEEPED. It became my favorite song of all time and it is still my favorite song of all time going on 20 years later. This is a masterpiece. The entire album is perfection.

I remember seeing them on the 13th Step tour, and them playing this, such a killer moment. As amazing as this performance here is, it just doesnt even match the experience of it happening in front of you. Often with live stuff I find that to be true, I can enjoy the stuff I have never got to see, but to see something i did in person at that time, the experience is nearly impossible to replicate in a home setting. This song at that moment just killed me.
